Hi! I've just recently started the Darkness That Comes Before and I've gotta say I've been loving it. I started off as a big Steven Erickson fan and frequented the Malazan Empire forums but it was not enough and I needed more. So when I found out that Erickson holds Bakker in high regard I decided to check him out and have not been disappointed so far  :D

Hello JA!  I'm jealous you are just starting in!  I didn't like Bakker at first, but have found every reread more and more rewarding.  What do they put in the water in Canada to get epic fantasy writers?!?! :)

Welcome TSA forum. I'll just say be careful what topics you open up if you are sensitive about spoilers. Stay away from the General Earwa boards as they aren't spoiler tagged. As kind of an open rule, each board has tagged spoilers for anything beyond that book. So the Thousandfold Thought forum will not have story spoilers tagged for anything in the first 3 books, but should for those that come after.

If you have specific questions/thoughts, feel free to make a topic. Some of the boards are sparsely populated, like TDTCB board, but there are no restrictions on making new topics or posting anywhere.

Welcome! Erikson and Bakker are my two favorite fantasy authors of today, I don't think you will be disappointed!

Definitely stay away from spoilers, this series is all about building mystery and not knowing what will happen next.

Welcome aboard JA,

Always nice to have a new face around here. :)

I would definitely heed Wilshires words and stay out of any spoiler threads. Spoilers for this series would ruin it as much of the series revolves around things we know not and the unpeeling of the layers of revelation!

Feel free to make some posts though :)

Thanks for all the spoiler advice, I know the pains of that well when it comes to Malazan so I will pick my threads carefully  ;)

We have worn deep tracks into the Steppe (it appears that we are out own Darkness). Always nice to have an unspoiled perspective.

I just started Erickson, found my way to the end of Deadhouse Gates and have Memories of Ice on my shelf.

Ah Deadhouse Gates is one of my favourite novels of all time.

I heard this from a few people now. It was very good.

If thats the case, I think you will rather enjoy the The Warrior-Prophet when you get to it.
