The Unholy Consult / Re: Why would the Inchoroi fear damnation?
« on: May 04, 2020, 05:14:55 pm »
It crosses my mind that the Ark is simply a vessel, controlled by an advanced AI, which requires a guidance system/OS (Sarcophagus with an Insertant), and every Inchoroi etc. is actually a biomech machine, soulless from the beginning. The Progenitors deceived the Inchoroi with the Inverse Fire as a goad to carry out their orders, by showing the truth of damnation - however this damnation was only applicable to the Progenitors, NOT the Inchoroi, that are like upgraded Sranc and subject to the NG themselves upon Initiation/Resumption.

Under this scenario the 'truth' of damnation is not the Inchies' truth, but they are driven to act upon it. There is no soul to damn. Perhaps this is where Kellhus' mistake originates.

Agree on the overly destructive firepower and the possibility of confusion.

To clarify, my thought was not that the Inchies of the Ark were still in contact with the NailShip (as I am now calling it, because it sounds rock hard), rather that they had been sent on to 'prepare the way' by reduction to 144k, closing the Circle, before the Nailies come down to take over. As a sort of test of their commitment perhaps. It doesn't require them to have a direct link back to the NailShip, a brutal race can use brutal techniques with each other as well as their victims.

Inri's birth date being so vague is another pointer to me, that he was an Inchie plant. Given that there are a number of other historical figures from the period whose dates are well known, the fact that Inri is a rough date from around the end of the Years of the Crib is suspicious, and suggests that he was inserted by the Consult following the NG's failure, which prompted a new strategy from the Consult, to control from behind the veil rather than outright confrontation.

On another point, it has been mentioned elsewhere hasn't it, that the Nail arrived a short while before the arrival of the Inchies? Thought I'd read that somewhere. Perhaps the Nail is a mothership and the Ark was only a drone, being monitored from afar, and in actual fact the failure of Ark will prompt a further intervention from the mothership...

AFAIUI, The Nail of Heaven is intimated to be related to the arrival of the Inchoroi, so the idea that Inri ascends to the Nail of Heaven to my mind connects him directly to them and thus reinforces the premise that the Tusk is a tool to control and manipulate Men.

It just occurred to me, reading this thread and all the talk of Biblical connections, and just now it's been mentioned about the Shortest Path of the Dunyain - in the teachings of the Bible, the Shortest Path, or the easiest path is always the wrong one, certain to lead you into damnation. Only by taking the harder, more difficult path, with those difficult choices, can one attempt to reach Heaven. Perhaps this is the parallel here that Bakker thinks we all missed - that the Dunyainic path, the Shortest Path, has always been destined to end with Apocalypse?

The No-God / Re: Kellhus and the Dreams - what could it lead to?
« on: May 25, 2018, 12:35:38 pm »
Seswatha's Dreams were always very narrative, and Akka would search for meaning and direction within them, for example finding out about the map to Ishual hidden at Sauglish. Do you think this would be the way Kellhus' Dreams would manifest? Or is it more likely that Kellhus would be more immediate, perhaps like Jagang in the Imperial Order from Terry Badnasty's Wizard's First Rule series? He would become the Goad to stopping the No God, in opposition to the Goad of the IF...

The No-God / Kellhus and the Dreams - what could it lead to?
« on: May 24, 2018, 08:01:35 pm »
Hi All

So, A few people have commented on the idea of Kellhus appearing in the Dreams, perhaps starting with Akka and then the Mandate and Swayali, providing continuity of his leadership and control after Resumption. I provided a few of my thoughts on this, and seeing the positive comments on the idea I thought it would be good to discuss what people think, if this theory is feasible, what it might mean for TNG and the hopes/fates of the protagonists that we think have survived Golgotterath.

What do you think might happen if Kellhus appears in the Dreams? Will he supplant Seswatha, or something else? What would he command? Who will he appear to, and why? Where do you think the story will go if this idea is right? I'd be fascinated to know what people think.

The No-God / Re: Will the Mutilated step out of the shadows?
« on: May 23, 2018, 05:54:56 pm »
In another thread I posited the idea of Kellhus returning in the Dreams as a means of control of circumstance beyond death. This could be how the Mandate and Swayali learn of the Mutilated (and of course, Achamian will Dream him first).

Well, I think there are a number of options. It could be the 2nd Decapitant, retrieved by Serwa in the pandemonium during Resumption. Or perhaps a piece of Kel's salted corpse. Or perhaps Serwe's heart, that has unbeknownst to us been sequestered in the home of the Metagnostic sorcerers. Or even Kel has ousted Seswatha and replaced him in the Dreams directly, and Achamian will be the first to Dream Kellhus.

Here's a thought - and I haven't looked through any other threads to see if it's already been thought of so apologies if it has. What if Kel's continued presence after TUC (dead but not done) is to become the life dreamed of by Metagnostic sorcerers, replacing Seswatha? Maybe this is how he will continue to direct the men of the Circumfix during TNG?

Again, I agree - my point is purely about Ajokli's place in the Earwan pantheon, and his ultimate origin being different to that of the rest of the Hundred.

It would be reasonable to think that if the Inchies brought damnation with them, they would want to keep the source of that damnation to themselves. With the IF as the goad, they want to escape the fate it foretells, and deceit is a useful way to manipulate the natives to do what they want without knowing it i.e. to goad the Nonmen into Ajokli's damnation, perhaps hoping to postpone their own inevitable fall while they seek a solution. Once the Consult come up with the NG, they deploy it too soon - the plan goes awry and Seswatha etc. do their thing and win the day - resetting everything back to the status quo, with Ajokli continuing to reap souls and the Inchies/Consult back to square one. However, for a time the NG did work - no more souls born, and I think as a counterpart, no more souls going to Hell. So they bide their time, the Consult find ways to use tekne to extend their lives indefinitely while coming up with a better plan - seeds sewn by the original Ajokli deception lead to the events of the SA and Resumption. The manner of the events in the GR would suggest to me that Ajokli is as unexpected to the Consult as he is unseen by Kel, and only the ultimate blind soul of Kelmomas is the joker in the pack, unwittingly and unexpectedly firing up the Sarcophagus - the Consult simply took advantage of providence.

Sorry for the wall of text and the jumble of ideas, this is very steam of conciousness at the moment! It also explains references to Ajokli being different to other gods, references of him as the trickster - I think that the Inchies have always had that in their 'nature', the potential deceit of Men through the Tusk (a vehicle to include Ajokli in the Earwan pantheon), the deceit of the Nonmen with the Womb Plague/Innoculation, the drawing of the Ordeal to Dagliash and the hidden nuke, etc etc. showing their 'trickiness'.

So to try and make sense of all I just wrote - Ajokli is the god of the Inchies, and not native Earwan, and he is essentially the god they deserve, his damnation being a reflection of their extreme hedonism and almost a karmic result of how they live.

Good to see more discussion around this. To be clear, I accept that Gods exist before Arkfall, but scripture is written by Men, so offers the possibility of the appearance of Ajokli as a native Earwan God as a later fabrication by the Inchies, manipulating Men for their own ends, as with the Tusk (I seem to remember Husyelt being an Inchie plant from somewhere). If the Inchies brought Ajokli with them (albeit unwillingly, like the beast on their backs they cannot shake), it would explain a few things - IF anyone?

Hi all, been reading this thread with interest. I've not picked up the books in a while, but this got me thinking. I can't remember if the Hundred (scripturewise) exist before or after Arkfall? If it is after, is it possible that the Inchoroi brough Ajokli with them when they crashed? The damnation they've been trying to escape is Ajokli's Hell, and that his 'agency' in Earwa is thanks to the Inchies, unable to escape him and bringing him with them? It would kind of fit with what the Consult are trying to achieve, and perhaps on a world with meaning, they finally have a chance to outwit him - then along comes Kelhus and buggers it all up. Just a line of thought, but interesting maybe? It would also explain why he is different to the rest of the gods, the connection implied with the Horns of Golgotterath, etc.
