Inspired by the Dream in the TUC Ch. 1 Excerpt: (I think someone in the initial part of that thread... or maybe t-shirt ideas!! weirdly enough. I tried one and then someone did that one (maybe even Duskweaver. Or locke?)

Somnambulist, that latest Ark is awesome. But to weigh in on looks here, I actually figured that they were like thrusters or engines.

Lol... The Emperor and Luke both fall into abysmal chambers on the Death Star ;).

Duskweaver:  Yeah, I'd never thought of them like that...  That would be kinda badass, though.  Where did that rendition of the Shield come from?
It was my quick and dirty attempt to visualise the description in the tUC excerpt, as explained in this thread, originally on the previous iteration of this forum.
"Then I looked, and behold, a Whirlwind came out of the North..." - Ezekiel 1:4

Madness:  yeah, I think they're engines, too, with some kind of emitters at the tips for propulsion, maybe gravity drives or anti-matter, but nothing so mundane as chemical rockets.

Duskweaver:  I like it

I guess I tend to think of the horns as big tail-wings of sorts trailing behind the rest of the vessel which is buried after the crash.

But that's not entirely consistent with the suggestion that there's an elevator going up them in the TUC exert unless they reworked it.

Then again, who is to say that they couldn't have had ways to travel through all parts of their ship.

I've heard different people mention at times that the Ark is actually bigger on the inside than the outside, but I've never seen any textual evidence for it. I know there's the line about the Ark being a "world unto itself", but to me that just implied it was really damn big. Anyone got some references for this?

I've never heard that. Could have been something Nau/Seswatha said, though I would think that was more like "wow there's a bunch of it buried, this place is so much bigger on the inside" kind of thing.

Is it deliberate that the chorae on the Carapace are arranged as an inverted Tree of Life? :D

Curethan:  Thanks! Yeah, I considered doing that... then I didn't.  Probably should have.

Duskweaver:  I wish I could take credit for being that clever.  I tried a few arrangements before settling on that one.

Very interesting Somm. Not at all how I myself envisioned it, but still an excellent piece as always. I definitely dig the invocation of an almost Egyptian sarcophagus, intentional or not.

FB:  Yes, an Egyptian sarcophagus was definitely the inspiration for the design.  Physical descriptions of the No-God are arguably the sparsest out of any 'thing' in the series, which is kinda cool.  Galaxies of room for interpretation, so I went for a fusion of the old (Egyptian style, face) with the futuristic (sleek, smooth, and made of nimil instead of iron).  I also wanted to try to explain, visually, how the Carapace would create and sustain a 'whirlwind.'  I imagine the entity encased within emanates a frigid cold, while the thrusters at the bottom create the intense heat, thus creating the convection currents necessary for the effect.  Probably weak reasoning, but that was the idea, anyway.
