The White-Luck Warrior / Re: White-Luck Warrior & Sorweel?
« on: February 10, 2014, 10:57:06 pm »
It's probably just an indefensible view, but I might hazard that we just have no scale to measure Kellhus on.  I don't know if what he did killing all those sranc was impressive or not.  Can you see the other dunyain smoking, hanging out in shades and black leather jackets, talking about killing one, no two, or maybe three million sranc with just a snap of the fingers if they had the gnosis?

For all we know, when he falls over in Esmi's arms after warping back is just more acting.  Pretend vulnerability to better maintain possession of the empress (or deceive someone watching).  Really looking forward to some awesome sorcery in UC.  One problem with all this blather is that if Kellhus is so powerful he can just crack the world open whenever he likes, then why bother spending 20 years putting the holy war together.  I have not a clue.  I think many on here have talked about his need for believers in order to ascend to the outside, I can't think of anything better.  Thought myself into a corner, I think.

Someone else explained it very concisely but I didn't find it in my cursory searching. So I offer this one in meager substitution.

Also, Nerdanel was a forum poster on Westeros who disappeared from posting sometime after TJE came out. Nerdanel had the most outlandish theories. Now Nerdanel has become synonymous with our nerdanels :).

It's like Marklar.

I don't think that Iyokus is a Dunyain though. He's just not strong enough, imo.

You almost certainly right, but I can't help but think that the dunyain would find that kind of estimation a useful cloak.  I don't think he could be dunyain unless there are really several out and about.

Madness, having ready through maybe 10% of the stuff up here, I don't think I'll ever have an original contribution.  :(  But all of everyone else's insights are candy for me!  Glad for this forum

Neuropunctured Cishaurim experiment.

That's wonderful.  Something else I'm wondering, whatever Meppa is, perhaps his role is to be tutor for Kelmomas in the third series.  If old moe really is dead, if the dunyain are also gone, if kellhus dies/becomes enslaved to whatever, then who will save the world?  What about Kelmomas?  He's got his dad's intellect and his mom's passion, so he might be the greatest waterbearer evar!  Assuming also that the psukhe is the special something that could undo the Consult.

WLW is going to kill the emperor.  Might not be Kellhus by that time. :P

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't notice it the first time through.  Wonder who it could be if not Kellhus?  Kelmomas?

I thought that some of us had reached the consensus that the Project as set in motion by OG Dunyain within Ishual is flerwed - unless it includes leaving Ishual at some point?

Lol, that made me think of dunyain traversing the void in a refurbished ark.   :D

Just for the sake of documentation, Wilshire and I checked and Kellhus leads the adunyani from Atrithau.

And he assumptively whips them across the Steppe to Cnaiur.

Hmm...

The adventures of Mekeritrig would be excellent as well.

Nin'janjin is probably a resident evil/silent hill monster at this point.

Fucking hell, I want to know about Nin!!!  NoGod candidate?  Crammed in there with the head of Cinmoi and the body of whatshisname, Seswatha's student?

Atrocity Tales / What stories would you like to see?
« on: February 10, 2014, 06:02:03 am »
I have no idea if Bakker checks this forum at all, but it might be fun to float a wishlist of cool stories.  Here's mine:

1. An account of how the Consult killed the Mandate outpost in Atrithau.
2. A contigent of Scarlet Schoolman journey north to raid the Ark, are surprised by what they find.
3. A child of moe is born to a scylvendi woman and not killed, it grows up to be...
4. The dunyain 100 years in, debates over how to proceed, how much ruthlessness is desirable?
5. How a school goes about identifying and ensnaring children with the gift.
6. An Unholy Consult Christmas: sranc humping under the mistletoe, Aurang is out getting last minute presents, Aurax and Shauriatas are cooking a turkey abomination, the NG has legions of sranc wailing "we wish you a merry christmas," Mekeritrig reminisces about holiday atrocities of yore, Santa brings everyone innocents to rape and eat.
7. Awesome tales of sorcerous battles from the 1st and 2nd holy wars.
8. Tales about the other two gnostic schools besides Sohonc and Mangaecca.
9. Shaman tales--first sorcerer tales.
10. A story about the only woman in the Consult--there has to be one, right?  The Mangaecca could use a witch just like a sorcerer, right?  Right?

Blah, forgot to say--what if the dunyain are in Atrithau and have been for a long long time?  There is so much silence about Atrithau I'm suspecting something.

All the talk about neuropuncture and exemplary defectives has got me wondering if Ishual is topoi because of thousands of years of suffering, like the nonman mansion in TJE.  I think that whatever Ishual is, it is something Seswatha cooked up way back when.  He needed multiple strategies to defeat the Consult in the fullness of time so he created the Dunyain and the Mandate (and other groups?) to eventually get it done.  Akka and Mimy find the Heron Spear deep in the Thouthou halls, been there all along, since the scylvendi only got their hands on a decoy.  0.o

The White-Luck Warrior / Re: Theory: Earwa is a simulation
« on: February 10, 2014, 05:30:21 am »
Lol, I hope Earwe is not a simulation, but it would give an entirely plausible explanation for magic.  Anything can happen inside the sim.  Akka wakes up in a mind-o-tube and heads to work at the post office...then a column of black appears on the horizon!  The simulation is supposed to be over!  WHAT DO YOU SEE?

I don't really have anything to add except to point out that we don't get (I don't think) any internal monologue from Meppa.  I think this is significant, because an internal monologue would portray what a character 'really thinks.'  I think that we can trust Kellhus to be accurately portraying himself to the reader in his internals in PON (he doesn't do it in AE) but for any character that we don't hear their thoughts--anything about their appearance could be deception.

WTF Meppa, he could be just about anything...maybe most of all a decoy.  I wonder if Bakker has kept loads of Cisharim alive, but the reader is deflected from the possibility because 'Meppa is the last.'  With old Moe having oodles of time before Kellhus arrives, I wonder if he swelled the ranks (making sure to keep the scarlet schoolman deceived of the numbers) so Moe can go on manipulating the world without leaving a mark.

More speculation: what if all of the cish who died in the holy war were just the ones that did not belong to moe's faction, so he controls the remainder; what if some of the cish went north to Ishual when the fanim and scylvendi warred; what if moe has figured out a way to be blind and yet appear to have eyes (the cish are everywhere--like xinemus, but they know how to 'look' like their eyes are opperative?
