Title: Forum Ranks
Post by: Madness on August 30, 2013, 11:04:21 pm
EDIT:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Current ranking system is as follows (as of 2014):

Emwama (0)
Suthenti (Caste-Menial) (25)
Momurai (Caste-Apparati) (75)
Kijneta (Caste-Noble) (150)
Great Name (300)
Old Name (500)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Wilshire finally prompted me to figure out how the forum ranks work.

Currently they are:

Newbie
Jr. Member
Full Member
Sr. Member
Hero Member

I'd appreciate suggestions before I change them to something content specific. I also think I can probably expand beyond only five categories. Remember, these are related to specific milestone post counts.

CnaiĆ¼r

WHAT?!  ;D

I like the ones Baztek suggested the best so far...closely followed by those of Wilshire. I don't think i like locke's idea (sorry mate, nothing personal  ;) ).

I'm still curious as to why Baztek choose Emwama.

Also, locke, Wilshire has Enshoiya for making the trip to the Ch. 3 reading. However, should he want The Ban Hammer... it can be done.

I think locke meant in place of "Global Moderator" or "Administrator"

Well, emwamwa were slaves, right? So they'd be at the bottom of the totem pole. And it's better than the word "slave" under every newbie's name.

Hm. Good logic. It's suggested that the Emwama go extinct though. Halaroi would be the root of humankind then. My only addendum.

Basically, Emwama are indigenous Earwaen, Halaroi are Eannaen (Five Tribes).

Ah ok, I got the two confused.
I like Emwama for that list, since it shows new people as other until they participate.

Currently the ranks go as follows in regards to number of posts:
0
50
100
250
500

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to either lower the 50 down to 25, or else insert another rank that goes from 25 to 50.
Thoughts?

Aw yeah! Movin on up in the world

I know no one does, but I'll go ahead and ask any way:
Anyone got a tiny picture of a chorae that could be used in place of the yellow squares that currently represent rank? That would be sweet.
(I always kind of picture them as marble sized, and covered in the weird writing that is found on the covers of some of the older books)

That's the thing - with tiny lines of tiny writing (kind of like how a uni bomber writes!) - until the ball almost seems like it's made of nitpicking little words of doubt.

Done. But if Somnambulist feels like editing the background at anytime to match the palate of the site, I would appreciate.

EDIT: Actually impossible as the background varies from post to post. That whiteness bothers me...
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Wilshire on September 11, 2013, 04:06:52 pm
Nice, some people might not be able to tell what it is but I think that its better than the squares.

Might be really easy to edit if you want to. Just open up the file in paint and change the background color with the fill tool. If paint does the whole picture, grab the circle tool and place a thin black circle around the chorae and then fill, it should create a barrier. I'll do it later tonight if no one minds.

Will this png work?  It should have a transparent background.  What's the pixel size of the icon you need?  Maybe I can fiddle this to show more detail.

Title: Re: Forum Ranks

We could be mean and just leave off the chorae completely for the bottom rank lol
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Somnambulist on September 11, 2013, 07:20:57 pm
So, I don't know if this looks 'more' like a chorae or not.  Quite challenging to get any detail that small and not just look muddled.
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Wilshire on September 11, 2013, 07:33:27 pm
Yeah when you can count the individual pixals like that it will be hard to do anything useful.

My only suggestion would be to put just 1 big "letter"/symbol onto it. That way at least you could tell that there was something there? But then it just looks like a circle with a random symbol in it... I wouldn't worry about it. I think it looks good as it is.
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Somnambulist on September 11, 2013, 07:56:08 pm
I agree.  So, with that in mind, here's my (probably) last offering, with a single symbol in the middle as you suggested.

System wont accept anything larger? Seems odd?

Edit: Must...resist...impractical to implement...idea that if were gunna have symbols on each, the first should have an S like symbol, the next an N like symbol, the next an A like symbol, then an F...you can see where I'm going...
Title: Re: Forum Ranks

So here we are, 18 days later. Looks like 5 votes is all we are going to get. Glad to see that I got a vote :D, but Baztek is the clear favorite.

About time to wrap this up for now?

Maybe we could throw this into the News/Announcements and leave it open to vote. Put in the title [Please vote, Poll remains open] or some such.

Next on the list:
Should we change the post requirements or keep them the same?
Also, if we do go with Baztek's list, anyone have suggestions for additional groups or modifications (sorry to bastardize your hard work :P)?
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Madness on September 17, 2013, 03:50:33 pm
I hold for the five categories for the moment and I think Baztek's list is fine.

My only suggested addendum to the count would be:
0
25
100
250
500

Otherwise, I like the gaps and the counts - but, of course, I leave it to the Quorum.
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Wilshire on September 17, 2013, 05:21:20 pm
I also think there should be something at 25. Since I can't think of another name to add either below Emwama or between Emwama and Caste-Menial, I suppose lowering 50 to 25 seems like a good idea....

EDIT
Wait, isn't there a "merchant" cast that is somewhere between Menial and Noble? Then we could do this:

0 - Emwama
25 - Caste-Menial
75 - Caste-Merchant
150 - Caste-Noble
250 - Great Name
500 - Old Name

That way you preserve the separation and you add a progressive +25 to each rank, so that its +25, +50, +75, +100 ... until 500 but whatever.
My brain likes that pattern :) so this is my vote.
Title: Re: Forum Ranks

There are actual words for the castes in TDTCB somewhere. When I get home I shall peruse.
Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Madness on September 18, 2013, 05:15:10 pm
So my revised suggestions for Baztek's list (minus brackets) and Wilshire's numbers:

Emwama (0)
Suthenti (Caste-Menial) (25)
Momurai (Caste-Apparati) (75)
Kijneta (Caste-Noble) (150)
Great Name (300)
Old Name (500)

There is also Nahat (Caste-Priest) but I don't know if that is necessary for our social ladder...

Title: Re: Forum Ranks
Post by: Wilshire on September 18, 2013, 05:47:02 pm
Caste-Apparati?

I never remember reading those names at all. Is that something only mentioned in TDTCB or is it something I forgot?

Not that the current system needs to be replaced, I actually like the current ranks but I felt I had to contribute something.

Vulgar Rabble  (0)
Man of the Tusk  (25)
Shrial Knight  (75)
Eothic Guard  (150)
Hundred Pillars  (250)
Faceless One  (500)

I know this list isn't exactly logical since skin spies aren't on the same side but I decided to just do it based on 'ability to kick ass in combat'.  I also tried to avoid troop types specific to one nation, but my guess is the Nansur (Ketyai) will be the most widely represented in the Shrial Knights but since all of the Eothic Guard in TAE are Norsirai I felt that balanced them out.

**If I have remembered anything incorrectly, please let me know but dont make me feel too dumb lol   :P

Mysunsai - 0
Imperial Saik - 25
Scarlet Spires - 75
Cishaurim - 150

Quya - 500

rank by cult?

The vaunted 'custom forum title slot'. We started giving anyone over 50 posts the opportunity to have one. Bother Madness about it and he'll help you out.
