Kellhus vs the Raven King

In Earwa, Kellhus; in England the Raven King; on neutral territory?  Raven King.  RK ascended so long ago, I think he's have Kellhus beat.  Maybe if Kellhus continues to pick up skills and powers though.

Yes, English magic seems a lot more developed and versatile, especially in the realm of control and illusion (as opposed to outright destruction). Who knows how far Kellhus has progressed with the Gnosis, though.

Kellhus vs. Quick Ben? His skills are equally mysterious, but he has certainly shown the potential for standing unopposed.

heh just finished GotM. Mr. 7Warrens was pretty impressive towards the end but I feel like I don't know enough to weigh in here. Like you said, mysterious.

Would make a great battle though.

Why do you refer to it as English magic?

Jonathan Strange is all about ENGLISH magic!  I don't know why it should be so special, but Clarke persuades me completely.

@ Meyna - it's cool that Kellhus might actually be heading in that direction!

Combining magical fantasy with pre-Victorian English mannerisms was genius.

Quote
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could."

I can actually hope for TUC, but I'm sad that Jonathan Strange and The Ladies of Grace Adieu are all we have from Clarke.  Have you tried the audio version?  Simon Preeble readls JS and it is amazing--includes the footnotes!

The Raven King is too good a character to leave alone for too much longer. The BBC adaptation starts soon, so perhaps Clarke is occupied by that? I haven't listened to the audio-book; I would think that the numerous footnotes would make it confusing, but judging from your reaction that is not the case!

I couldn't've enjoyed the audiobook without the footnotes!  Preeble does awesome, but it is confusing sometimes.  That note on her wikipedia page has said that she's working on a sequel focusing on Childermass and other poorer folks.  But that note's been there forever!  Really, I would prefer if she worked out a lot of stuff about the Aureates.  What I really really want her to write...A Child's History of the Raven King.

Thank you for the offer! There is surely a lot to discuss. I would have to reread the book before I can contribute, though; it's been too long!
