Lotta optimists in this thread.

"Muh void, muh death of values, muh chemicals, got it, let's move on."

To what?  Who is moving?

Look, a wirehead culture can debug people, alright?  So it is going to.  The difference between this and religious leaders having the idea is the difference between cavemen dreaming of flight and planes taking people wherever they want to go.

Once people are just source code, there is no valid argument against optimizing them.  Who is gonna stand up and fight for depression and stupidity?  They are gone as soon as they can be.

There is a big dif between illegal drugs and wireheading tho.  Like, the whole 'we seek complicated fulfillment...' there's a wire for that.  You can push 'kids finally out the door and going off to college', or a spritz of 'mother is walking again'.  Can't enjoy it because you know it is fake?  There's a wire for that.  Now you are past that hangup!

The Progenitors culture never stood a chance.  Once you figure out that people are just a bunch of competing causes, and that brain manipulation can change that, it is pretty much all over for any coherent notions of the self.  I imagine they'd have lazed away forever if they hadn't discovered Damnation.

I think Kellhus gets up above Aurang by warping, not by walking on echoes.

Malowebi gives an 'I have no mouth and I must scream' vibe.  Strapped to a statue's hip for all time.  Yikes.

Curse Likaro!

<paraphrasing>

Kelmo : "Should I be afraid?"
Kellhus: "Your fear has never been something that you can control."

later on:

Kelmo : "Are you going to kill me?"
Kellhus : "I'm not convinced there is anyone to kill."

These lines, from a father to his son, make me shudder.

Gotta be Proyas, for me.  He believed in Kellhus as much as it is possible for a human to do, and was betrayed as comprehensively as it is possible to be.

I just kind of feel like if Kelmomas was in that scene...he'd have died.  Like, he isn't hopped up on Quirri.  He doesn't have the Gnosis.  If a little boy was scrambling across that room he'd have gotten baked.  I think he must have gotten through earlier, prior to the fight erupting.

Easiest answer for me is that her assailant was a skin spy, with a bag wrapped around its chorae to keep Schoolmen from feeling it.

Do the Ceshaurim salt when hit by a chorae, or just die?  Also, (potential spoiler) will the great hero Likaro make his appearance in The No-God?

Tee-shirt:

"I crossed the Field Appalling to fight for the Aspect-Emperor and all I got was damnation after all."

He might be the MOST marked of any being.  Like, he is literally the Cheater Of The Gods.

26
The Gods are beings that see all of time at the same moment.  Think of them like viewers of a tv series, who can fast forward or rewind at will.  They can 'write' the WLW and similar interventions into the flow of history flawlessly.  (No Mark on the earthquake, etc.)

The No-God is the being that ends time.  He is a virus that eats away at the inside/outside connection.  Static on the line.  No amount of flipping through channels can ever catch sight of him, because he is the off button.

When the No-God triumphs, the Gods are blind.  One day the Gods will be blind to the No-God, and therefore they ALREADY ARE.  They are atemporal beings.  'Spoiled', if you will.

So for chumps like mortals, who view the series one episode at a time...this is super worrying.  Imagine you are starting to read TDTCB, and you hear a bunch of readers who have already seen the end talking about how Kellhus took down Conphas.  That is hugely worrying to you as a Leweth fan, because it necessarily means that Kellhus doesn't marry Leweth and live with him forever.

Similarly, if Momas isn't earthquaking the No-God it means that the No-God will one day blind him.  That means that Kellhus isn't going to succeed in stopping it from being created, because if he was going to do that it would never blind Momas, which means Momas could see it now/in the past, and earthquake it.

To the degree that anyone was.

I think Aurang's plan was, basically:

1: I sit on the Upright Horn while the Great Ordeal wrecks lower Golgotterath.  I am safe because no one in the Ordeal can fly up here, and I'm out of reach of cants.
2: The Backup Horde attacks and kills them all while I jerk off.

He only took personal action when Kellhus got the spear and destroyed the Canted Horn.  He had to, at that point.  He is the only one who can get to Kellhus, and he has to do it before he decides to chop down the Upright Horn the same way.

Fighting a stronger wizard who could use teleportation to match his flight was never part of the plan, but he couldn't get away after he jump scared Kellhus into dropping the Spear.

28
There was nothing else around when the God was unshattered TO shatter it, right?  It is a whodunnit with only one suspect.

29
Seems like they'd have to be, yeah?

30
Very debatable.  Likaro seems to have been the primary proponent of Zeum not taking Kellhus seriously, which kept their forces out of the disastrous debacle of the Great Ordeal.  If so, he may actually be a hero in terms of his impact on the plausibility of civilization surviving.

I don't understand why you are reading the AMA if you like it less than the book with mysteries intact.  Seems like you should stop visiting those threads/boards and enjoy the book the way you prefer.
