The Unholy Consult / [TUC Spoliers] Kellhus' children
« on: July 16, 2017, 07:36:19 pm »
There is a scene in the White Luck Warrior where Inrilatas is talking to Kelmomas, and he says something along the lines of 'we (the kids) have inherited father's faculties in some mangled manner'.  From what we learn about Kellhus' various children over the course of TAE, it seems to me that they each represent various aspects of him.

  • Kayutas - the mundane one.  Physically impressive war-leader/ prince of men. But not as great a leader as Kellhus
Theliopa - passionless intellect.  But not as intelligent as Kellhus
Serwa - super-sorceror.  But not a powerful as Kellhus.
Inrilatas - deranged megalomaniac and deliberate transgressor of taboos.  Inri specifically states he cannot control himself in the way his father can

Which leaves us with Kelmomas
Has two souls which switch (possibly uncontrollably) in and out of his body.  Is a murdering psychopath.  Has a very strong need to be loved to the exclusion of his other siblings.  Cannot be seen by the Gods.
Given what the events of TUC, what does this suggest about Kellhus?

I think the No-God was 'alive' for 11 years the first time.

There is surely less resistance this time though, as the North no longer exists as an opponent for the No-God and is now just distance to be crossed.  OK, Atrithau and Sakarpus are still there, but I don't see them as significant as Sakarpus has the Chorae Hoard looted by the Ordeal, and the anarcane ground at Artithau can surely just be overrun by Sranc without any need for sorcery.
The Three Seas can probably raise one or more significantly large armies, given its high population, but most of its military leadership has just been obliterated at Golgotterath, as has most if not all of the sorcerous schools.  Additionally the administrative centre of the Empire has been devastated by earthquake and flood.  Soldiers have to be trained, sorcerors have to be taught, they all have to be supplied.
Which leaves us with Zeum (we don't know what their military capabilities are)
and the Scylvendi

The DûnSult boyz mention how it took about four and a half years to clear out Ishuäl, which means even if they assaulted it right after TWP, there was no way it was pre-TTT.

The assault has to have finished at some point after the crab-handed boy was born - otherwise he wouldn't have been born at all (the whale mothers would be dead), and the boy realistically has to be born before the Consult get to the Whale Mothers room and kill the Whale Mothers.  I don't think it's ever stated how old the boy is, but we do know he's a boy and not an adolescent (let's say under 12).  If we assume at the latest that he was born halfway through the attack, then at the earliest the attack began approx. 14 years before TUC and ended approx. 10 years before.  If the boy is younger than 12, then the numbers reduce.

Hi everybody.  I've been a big fan of the Second Apocalypse since TDTCB came out - possibly my all time favourite fantasy series.  Anyway, I decided enough of lurking, get on the forum.
