I don't dare post unless it's something I've paid attention to for a day or two.

I just bought Red Knight on audible. I've heard good things, and I'll get around to it by the end of the month.

Bakker's fanbase are truly the Mandate ( PoN) of fantasy.

"But I tell you, This man shows us how the world shall end. What - why are you laughing at me??

Has anyone else read "Heroes Die"? Because Bayrne [sorry if I misspelled it, I listened to it and google fails me] is an amazing man who knows what life is all about. He wants to do everything there is and enjoy every fragment of existence. He's probably my favorite villain behind the Inchoroi!

Bakker is such a big silly Canadian. His "eh" game could use some work, but the Tim Hortons makes up for it.

News/Announcements / Re: How grimdark is TDTCB?

Darkness that Comes Before is currently the most grimdark out of all the books up for voting with a 4.49! The only other book currently above a 4.0 is Prince of Thorns.

Just need to get Heroes Die into that poll! Love me some Caine :)

It's in the next round of voting, and I'll be disappointed if it doesn't break the 4.0 threshold.

Do it all! ;)

I recorded the first couple pages of entries this evening. I can realistically keep up that pace for a while, and a lot of it can be done in one take. At this rate I'll be done just in time for TUC's audiobook release.

First-time visitor to this thread, so I've got a lot.

Muse seems incredibly on-topic with Absolution. Really good, fairly deep. Their other albums are great too, but Absolution is really on-point. It's the most mainstream thing I've ever encountered that tries to address the same same topics as Bakker's books.

Lacuna Coil is pretty engaging. Dark Adrenaline is really fun, Broken Crown Halo is good but nothing to get excited about.

Affiance is really heavy-handed trying to address the same themes as Bakker, but at least they have a good baseline. The Campaign is a solid album.

(And then because I'm new to the thread, I'm always listening to Panic! At the Disco, who are always relevant to some degree.)

that repulsive dipshit Kelmomas;

That's kind of missing the whole point. I agree about there being a fundamental difference between Prince of Nothing and Aspect-Emperor, but it seems like a gross oversimplification to see your takeaway. Bakker put us through the most vile celebration imaginable, and the fact that it becomes tedious after a while is a statement in itself. It's pointless and glorious and transcendent.

This isn't the end of the series. I have some reservations, and I agree about some of the loose ends. If Meppa doesn't play a big part in the follow-up, then there was no point in letting him survive Esme's chorae. Akka and Mimara had better play a big role, or else their entire journey was an exercise in stringing the reader along. Etc.

I recall on the old forum a thread where Bakker (who used to post frequently) was crowing about reading a review from someone who was so repulsed by the brutality in the PON series that she decided to burn the book, which Bakker thought was seriously funny. 7 books and +- 14 years later, I'm seriously thinking of tossing mine. No way I'll leave them around for my kids to discover, and I don't really hate anyone enough to gift them. I gather there is speculation of a further No-God series. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...

I think he really would celebrate that, and I'm not sure he's wrong.

General Earwa / Narrating TUC's Glossary
« on: August 20, 2017, 01:37:16 am »
I just got a new setup for voice recording that will make it very easy to create high-quality audio. I've had a bit of experience narrating from The Second Apocalypse, and this is going to be easier and of superior quality. For the moment I'm planning to go through the larger entries in The Unholy Consult's glossary and read them out loud. It's about 140 pages long, so I'll be skipping over the smaller sections for now unless someone replies saying that they want something included.

I'm not sure yet whether it's going to be one long track or a bunch of smaller files. Either way, it will be organized and timestamped when I post the audience-friendly version.
