The Unholy Consult / [TUC Spoilers] Kellhus and future stories
« on: July 18, 2017, 01:47:41 pm »
So...let's guess at the final fate of our Lord and Prophet.

Do you think he is hanging from the statues hip in the other head?  Dead and being tortured on the outside?  Dead and become a Ciphrang?  Dead and become Ajokli?  Alive and it was a body double that got salted?  Actually inside of the No-God?

Let's hear it!

For myself, I think he is, himself, the Head On A Pole.  His spirit is tortured in the Outside, but his head is on the statue's belt, and he is not dead, so the Hundred cannot truly torture him.  I think those scenes were flash forwards to this time.

The Unholy Consult / [TUC Spoilers] Timeline question
« on: July 13, 2017, 02:29:35 pm »
Just to make sure I have this right...

The Consult was subverted by the Dunyain between the series, right?  Sometime after TTT, before TGO?  Just want to make sure there is no chance that Moengus the elder heard about them from the skin spies he interrogated.

The Unholy Consult / [TUC Spoilers] Mimara and Kelmomas
« on: July 12, 2017, 11:07:24 pm »
I was just rereading the part where Mimara catches up with the Great Ordeal, and is brought in to see Esmenet.  Kelmomas is standing there, and there is a bit where Mimara doesn't see him, despite him being right in front of her.  After a bit she blinks and catches sight of him.

I think that the Judging Eye is also unable to see Kelmomas.

The Unholy Consult / [TUC SPOILERS] After this...
« on: July 11, 2017, 04:15:24 pm »
Obviously, the end of TUC leaves us the world in a terrible bind.  Do you think we pick up right where we leave off, or do you think we pick up a few years down the road?

The Great Ordeal / Erratics and the Ten Yolk Legion
« on: June 28, 2017, 02:33:40 pm »
So...given what we see of Ishterebinth, and Cleric, and just generally how nutty Nonmen turn out to be, is anyone else really impressed at how well the Ten Yolk Legion plan worked?  Like, the Consult is super lucky that their Nonmen managed to stick with the plan.  Presumably they had Ursranc as Books...

The Thousandfold Thought / Luck or Cunning?
« on: May 11, 2017, 01:45:05 pm »
So, at the climax of TTT, Kellhus is down in the depths with his father.  The Holy War is locked in its ultimate clash with Fanayal's final army.  The Scarlet Spires and the Cishaurim are annihilating one another.

And Conphas is coming up behind the Holy War with a fresh army, and the Imperial Saik.

As we all know, they blunder across Achamanian, and then Saubon rolls up in the confusion and kills Conphas, taking command of the army (and the Saik), and bringing them in on the side of the Holy War.

Fundamentally, this is the conclusion of the battle, as the Saik are the only School left on the field, and they annihilate the Fanim just as they did the Scylvendri at Kiyuth.

The thing I want to point out is...this seems like total luck.

Like, Conphas's downfall is the result of several elements in sequence, each seemingly unconnected to Kellhus's machinations.
1: He splits the Saik up, leaving them unable to defeat a Mandate Schoolman.
2: Akka (owing to his feud with Iyokus) ends up behind the main battle, in prime position to spy the incoming Nansur force and take them on
3: Saubon rolls up immediately after Akka starts throwing down.

If any of those things go differently, the whole thing fails.
If Conphas has the Saik gathered together then they murder Akka, then Saubon.
If Akka isn't present then the Grandmaster of the Saik kills Saubon
If Saubon shows up earlier then the Grandmaster kills him

If Conphas is still in control of the Imperial force then the Holy War is massacred, as a School and an army show up behind it.  That leaves Kellhus in a position where conquering the Three Seas seems like a pipe dream, as he is the loathed False Prophet who led the Holy War to damnation, defeat, and death.

So, do y'all think that Kellhus planned the foiling of Conphas and the suborning of his army, or do you think that was just a lucky break (ie: Kellhus doesn't know anything about the Nansur, his plan was just Holy War > Fanim, with him finishing off any Cishaurim who happened to survive)?

Author Q&A / Different Analogies for different schools?
« on: June 27, 2016, 06:36:48 pm »
Somehow while reading the first series I got it into my head that the Imperial Saik used the setting sun as their main attack, while the Scarlet Spires used the dragonhead.  Is there any validity to that?  Basically, do each of the Anagogic schools have their own particular poetic devices that they use for doing things (none as deadly as the Gnosis's abstractions, but of greater or lesser potency to one another?)

Author Q&A / Anarcane ground?
« on: June 23, 2016, 07:02:12 pm »
So, it is mentioned at one point that Atrithau is raised on 'anarcane' ground.

Obviously, that's a very interesting thing to ponder, given the metaphysics of what Sorcery seems to be.  So... I guess I'm just curious about what the deal is with this area.  Is it just that Sorcerers can't sing sorcery there, or are they driven out by pain similar to the ones they suffer around the Chorae Horde.  Can Consult creations (mostly Sranc I guess) go there?  It seems like it must ward them away for Atrithau to survive in the North until the modern day.  Was a Cishaurim ever observed trying to Sing around there?

TGO ARC Discussion / [TGO SPOILERS] Thoughts after finishing my ARC
« on: June 16, 2016, 01:26:30 pm »
Hoo boy.  Ok, here we go!

Final status on all characters:
Mimara and Akka -> wandering towards Golglutterath in order to see Kellhus with the Judging Eye
Kellhus -> Far away from Golglutterath, chilling in Momemn ordering the assassination of the Satakhan of Zeum
Proyas -> Commanding the healthy remnant of the Great Ordeal as it closes on Golglutterath
Cnaiur (!!!) -> Commanding all Scylvendi, in the service of the Consult
Sorweel/Serwa/Moen Jr. -> attempting to destroy Ishterebinth with the aid of one of the Tall
The Horde -> Mostly nuked
The Great Ordeal -> divided into radiation victims under Sibawul Vaka/some other king and healthy folks under Proya
The Consult -> infuriatingly mysterious still
Esmenet/Kelmonas/White Luck/ Meppa -> Big cliffhanger in Momemn, not quite sure what's up with any of them

My favorite sequences:
Little Kel watching the Whiteluck
Mimara and the last Dunyain's staring/revelation contest
Devolution of the Ordeal once they started eating the Meat, parallel with Proyas's anguish after Kellhus rapes him
The Tall hero rising up and striking down the puppet king in Ishterebinth
Kellhus dropping Psatma from the sky

Wtf moments!
Kellhus approving of the nuke destroying Saubon and a big part of the Ordeal
Saubon being the dead version of himself he clasped on the Battleplain
Kellhus beheading and reheading Malobwepi, using him to assassinate the Satakhan
Cnaiur is alive?!
Aurax noping out when confronted by Saccarees
The Survivor killing himself
Esmenet taking on Fanayal/Meppa
Inriliatus made Thelliopa ???
Vaka and co. spending a night in the Consult's larder and emerging as Sranc-banes
Little Kel somehow breaking the WhiteLuck prophecy, or whatever happens at the end of the Momemn arc.
Esmenet crushed (did that really happen?  Or was this a "Harweel torn in half" esque feint)
Inside out prophets, that show the world to the God rather than vice versa
Akka's dreams show that the Prophecy was literally made about Kellhus  (Lots of mentions of time being folded, all of this has happened before, etc.)

1:  The No-God is just The God.  Kellhus's explanations to Proyus that God is 'it' are meant to prepare him for the necessity of the Holy War to fight the very God that Kellhus has convinced them that his soul is the shape of.

This explains why the Gods are blind to the No-God (it is just all of them together).  It explains why it is confused (The Gods watch from the Outside through the eyes of souls.  Once stuck together and wandering around on the Inside it doesn't have access to that channel, and can only speak through the Sranc).  It destroys birth because when it is in the world it isn't on the outside shooting souls in.

2: The Gods are ciphrangs, and their particular worshippers are what they feed on.  Gilgaol and Yatwer are strong enough to seize other prey.  So if you are a faithful inrithi you are eaten by one of your Gods.  If you sin then you are instead eaten by a ciphrang that isn't cool enough to be a God.  Heaven is Hell, damnation and paradise are both the same, being perpetually tormented so that these entities can devour your passions.

This is why the Judging Eye sees good and evil.  If we are just bread, why would it disapprove of sin?  Wouldn't that be better for God's purpose?  It makes sense if the righteous are also consumed, and in particular are consumed by the Hundred, who do the Judging.  The sinners are 'evil', because they are feeding low status ciphrangs rather than Gilgaol/Yatwer, etc.  The Judging Eye is Yatwer/Gilgaol/other God's eye.

3: Akka insisting that Kellhus intends for them to be at Ishual/encounter his son, etc, is just him being paranoid.  The Aspect-Emperor didn't sneak into his tower and read his notes.  What they are up to right now is unknown to Kellhus.  Kellhus doesn't care about anything other than his Great Ordeal.

EDIT [Madness]: For title :).
