Yeah, I think "even mighty Likaro" was my favorite bit.

I sure am curious about where we go from here.  A few of the things I'll be most curious about going forward:

-What's the role for The Most Blessed Fraction, the character that you lot call Crabicus?

-What's the role for Meppa?  I felt like when Meppa was introduced in WLW it had to portend something huge which, at least for TAE, turned out not to be the case at all.  Does RSB still have something big planned?  Will he remain the last Cishaurim?  One of my bigger disappointments in his role not escalating in the last two books was that I'd love to see the Cishaurim and the Psukhe explored a bit more.

-Given Zeum's presumably much bigger role in the next series will we also get more of a taste of the Iswazi?  I hope see.  I think Bakker's magic system is great, so throwing one more on the pile would be cool.

-How do the Nonmen re-emerge?  Did the Lord of Swans die in this book or can he maybe be one of the principals remaining?  Will we ever hear about Nin'janjin, or was he lost to the ages?

The Unholy Consult / The Collected Works of Emilidis
« on: August 04, 2017, 04:36:58 am »
I thought that it might be fun to get a list of all mentions of the works of Emilidis in one place.  The appendix entry does not contain a list.  I know that several are mentioned though I think that it may be many more than I'm remembering.

I'll mention a few to start, and I hope it goes without saying that none of you would blaspheme the Artisan.

The Diurnal or Day Lantern from the False Sun

The collar that Harapior throws on Serwa

The sword, I know it's named but can't recall it, that Serwa takes after Mishoa gets eaten by Skuthula.

Chipmonk?

ETA:  And of course the Cauldron.

What else?

The Unholy Consult / So Kellhus "went mad?"
« on: August 04, 2017, 04:15:25 am »
So are we now to take the "What has come before..." sections that say that Kellhus "went mad" quite literally?  That the creeping presence/voice of Ajokli made Kellhus a little less sane from the moment it found him and got worse the closer he got to the Ark?  Many had wondered how to interpret that statement.  Perhaps it had been "mad" from Moenghus' perspective, but now it seems more straight-forward?

it's funny too that this scene was apparently written less clearly, and he re-wrote it per suggestions from beta readers.  I was confused at first too, but I also missed that Shae's initial appearance was a hologram.  I think if i'd gotten that I'd have been more inclined to spot the next hologram.

Isn't it possible that Shae lives on within the larvae but just doesn't run the show anymore?  Maybe he was not very powerful anymore beyond his intellect and was de facto leader of the Consult based on intellect and the universal need to revive Mog?  Would the Dunyain even need to do anything to Shae to overcome him other than just establish themselves as the new authorities within the Ark?

I'm not sure what the boat is, but I think it's quite possible that the overconfidence of the Consult was quite well-demonstrated by Nayu in TTT.  When he addresses Aurang-as-Bird he continues to tell it that it still doesn't get what it's now dealing with in the Dunyain.  He says something like "You assume nothing has changed.  I assure you, everything has changed."  It seems like the Consult eventually decided it was worth it to assault Ishual and thought that was the "getting it," but they still didn't, and the fools took Dunyain "captives."

Author Q&A / Re: Unholy Consultation - *SUPER SPOILERIFIC*
« on: August 01, 2017, 05:01:42 am »
Scott - I bought a nice, crisp hardback this week and have mowed through it.  I have a quick comment which is that, in the past year, I've reread The Great Ordeal a few times and am more impressed with it each time.  At the moment it might be my favorite book of yours.

I am sure I will continue to reread The Unholy Consult and will have questions stemming from that, but the one that I want to ask right now, while it stems from this book, reaches back to the very beginning of the story, and it is this:  when Kellhus first encounters a Nonman in the woods said Nonman (Mek, presumably) says something to the effect of "I have fought for and against the No-God in the wars that authored this wilderness (big paraphrase)."  That suggested to me that it could have been the No-God that fought on two opposite sides rather than the speaking Nonman erratic.  This seems more plausible now that we know that Nau-Cayuti was the first iteration of the No-God.  Was this a deliberate clue all along about the identity of the first No-God?

ETA:  I'm not even certain that I didn't try to ask this in another thread at some point, erratic as I myself have become.

The Unholy Consult / Re: TUC Official Buys

It was funny.  I called in ahead to ask that they reserve a copy for me just to be on the safe side.  The guy, who to his credit did end up successfully placing the hold for me, had to ask me multiple times what the title of the book was like his brain just couldn't process a novel called "The Unholy Consult."

But why would Moenghus have believed that the Consult was close to reviving the No-God even 20 years before the Great Ordeal?

The Great Ordeal / Re: [TGO SPOILERS] Meppa is...
« on: July 30, 2016, 03:28:13 am »
Madness - Part of why I can't get with that theory is the timeline just doesn't seem to work.  Meppa is described in WLW as having totally white hair which suggests he's not 30 or under, and he would have to be about 30 or under in the 2nd trilogy.

That said, I still think that scene with the boy at Shimeh has to be there for some reason.  I still think the likeliest explanation is that it's a quick hint about where chanv comes from.

I admit I'm still surprised by the Meppa reveal that we seemed to have gotten which seems to be that he's a survivor of Shimeh and not a Moe machination or other theory.  And we also didn't seem to get anything about what the metaphysics of the Psukhe or the faith of the Fanim portend, if anything.  Obviously there's a chance we'll still get more in the next book.

There is that moment where Eleazaras holds his own against Seokti and another Primary which is no small feat, but the rest of it reads like the SS being overwhelmed by the Primaries.
