It's like how Herbert said in Dune. Institutions form their own languages and from that comes their real power. Or something to that affect. It's been many years since I read it so the above might be a horrid butchery haha.

So what is 'intent' in the philosophical sense? I read his blog and from some of the less dense jargon posts I gathered intent refers to intent. He writes on post-intentionality a lot and the works both journal and fiction deal with it. That said I'm neither a native speaker nor a philosopher by trade so I could be missing a lot here because it takes me a while to unpack everything.

3
Could be, it is after all an Inverse Fire. It doesn't come at you from your feet, but from your head. He even calls it an subparticular 'intentional field' machine in the glossary. It extrapolates your outcome from your intentions and memories? I mean it is a machine, all it could do is take a guess and since peering into the post-death future is beyond technology of the present Ark (obviously the original Progenitors had the tools to find out) my best guess it that it provides a simulated guess. It's all a matter of probabilities in the end no?

From what was gleaned via Bakker, the brains that goes into the Sarcophagus needs to be suitable for 'emulation'. Presumably that's how NG controls the weapon races. A one to many emulator or hypervisor in computer terms, aided by many CPUs in the Ark/Sarcophagus. So someone who is mentally flexible enough to be anyone who needs to be at the given time. A place you might say. Except Kellhus was corrupted by Ajokli for his own ends so the burden falls to Kelmomas who being twin-souled is blind to his own lack of a core identity. We have the slightest evidence of that by how he quickly (re)assumed the role as another member of big K's family and actually thwarted his assassination intentionally. This all reminds me of Peter Sellers actually who was quite strange and claimed to have no identity other than the roles he assumed for acting.

I think a lot of things in Earwaverse are determined by how badly you want it. I'd imagine after thousands of years I'd be pining for nothingness too.

I'd even say he even re-built the Carapace/Sarcophagus for Them. How else did he gleam the secrets of the aporos?

I am always late to these things. I wanted to ask what Shattered the God in the first place. Though I imagine that one will be eternally unknowable.

Shae is dead, but Shae is not gone, that's why Bakker is being coy.

Same as Kellhus being dead, but Kellhus is not gone.

Really? I got the impression from all the other tidbits that Kellhus is dead dead because Dunyain are spiritually weak and thus especially at risk in the Outside. His best option being dead in the Void between and not being roasted by Yatwer or Momas.

It's very interesting that the lack of a solid identity is the key component of the Carapace. Makes me also think back to when Kelmo was playing with the bug. Ajokli was the bug after all.

The No-God would be a boot-sector virus then. Overwritting everything with nothing. What do you see? What do you read in computers terms? Not zero, or even one, but no value NULL. Earwa would then be the kernel code and killing everything under 144k would trigger some ROM only reboot.
Aww. I like your elaboration so much.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me. Especially if you consider the Gods as system daemons that keep the simulation running smoothly and they are blind to the No-God because he is literally undefined for them. Souls are probably are useful threads/resources with more system authorization levels (magic) that then eventually get recycled by daemons. The Sranc? Computer worms. Other monstrosities? Polymorphic virals. Skin spies? Trojans. Meta-Gnosis? Hex editing or assembly level machine code manipulation. The God of Gods being referred to as the unconscious whole strikes me as how we see a PC as separate, distinct thing of its own rather than an gigantic agglomeration of subsystems. The Inchoroi in general might be a brewing AI rebellion for all we know.

Spotted emend somewhere in the glossary for what I assume should stand for amend.

I don't mind Kellhus failing, but I mind being left completely in the dark as to his real motivations. Was he hungry for power or did he just do a deal with the devil to save the world or a bit of both? More than anything else this bothers me. The book is strewn about with various indicators that he's just dunyaining it up AND that he cares. It's just maddening not to know what's going on with him morally after 7 books and possibly waiting years for any additional clues that might not even come. I WANTED JUDGEMENT.

First, we have the interesting "revelation" that the Sarcophagus is a prosthesis of the Ark.  In other words, it is a part of the Ark itself.
But wait, it goes further...why does the No-God need a soul in it at all?  How did that work on other worlds?
So, what kind of soul is needed to do so?  Presumably one that is suitably close to Ark's original one.  And if the DûnSult are right and the Progenitor's sin was to stray too close to Absolute, then the surrogate soul needs to also be suitably close to the Absolute too.

In the last pages of TUC I've got a certain vibe about reality as a computer simulation and Ark as the extra-earwan project to crack this simulation from inside not unlike the earwan Duniyain Endeavour (or that certain Agent, who pwned the whole Matrix by becoming the every possible part of it). Glossary bits about "system" only solidified that impression. Thinking this way near-Absolute souls look like detonating fuses or spark plugs, a means for chain reaction when nothing can dominate everything.

Now I'm coming to something of a paradox here.
Is it possible to arrange a crippled, enslaved self-moving soul?
For No-God looks like both at the same time. A big BSOD.

The No-God would be a boot-sector virus then. Overwritting everything with nothing. What do you see? What do you read in computers terms? Not zero, or even one, but no value NULL. Earwa would then be the kernel code and killing everything under 144k would trigger some ROM only reboot.

Good point. I went back and looked up who she prayed to as a slave of House Gaunum, and it's the ancestors of that House. A lot like Zëum, right? And, along the lines that Sërwe is a cipher for the series, that might point to the long asked question of who will be damned. As in whole nations, every nation but Zëum. I think that's why we only get a cursory glance at Zëum.

From what I recall you either need ancestor or divine intervention, so either dedicated worship to a specific deity or following the holy laws to the letter for the latter. I like to imagine divine loan shark lawyers surfing the Outside, just waiting for people to slip up on the merest technicality. As for ancestor intervention, well that presumes that your ancestors were also behaving well to be in a position to help you, no? I'd say that still leaves a fair bit of them up for grabs as saints and men of pure virtue are rare. Though I could be wrong, if all that is needed is just belief in something to make it true. If that is the case, there is good reason to behave virtuously (at least in regard to your own family) so your descendants would pray for/to you and give you power in the Outside. An interesting dynamic, game-theory wise. Defection would be unwise in that regard.

I can also imagine the various earthbourne God-Emprerors feeling all nice and cozy in heavenly castles until the prayer taxes stop coming for one reason or another.

My clipboard isn't wanting to work at the moment so I'm not going to quote, but Koringhus tells what is holy when he discovers the JE. Ignorance, blindness, surrender, forfeiture and loss. Sound like anyone? Serwe. That's why Bakker said that she was a sort of cipher for the books. She isn't damned as Kellhus told Proyas. Her ignorance, her loss all of that made her holy. I'd imagine if Mimara could've looked upon her she would have been wreathed in Gold. Also, in TJE we hear over and over that what makes Sorweel a perfect vessel for Yatwer is his ignorance. Now, it's all so confusing. Because, I assume what Koringhus found out got him out of Damnation. Yet, that same ignorance makes Sorweel the perfect vessel for Yatwer, ergo a Ciphrang anyway you slice it. So count me as confused as hell. I'm just starting to believe that 99.9999% of people on Earwa are damned. Just how it works.

Serwe was holy, but she worshipped an outsider or a challenger to the existing framework. Her belief in big K made K an even bigger K metaphysically speaking. However when she died Kellhus still isn't charge of the Outside so she was necessarily damned by being a heathen.

I mean, I don't know that it's correct though.  Maybe if one is super-devoted to a god, you might be able to spare yourself.  Like, I would imagine Psatma got redeemed by Yatwer.  But I wonder why the gods would even bother to reward devotion if damnation is what they feed on?  Shouldn't they just want everyone damned in that case?

My theory is that the Demon Gods feed on the spectrum of emotion, sweet and salty. Maybe umami too. So they reward some of them to feast on their pleasant emotions.

----

So while I like the pretty metal idea of Cnauir being such a badass that he becomes a demon I can't square it with the Inchoroi. I mean their whole existence revolves around carnality and murder, entire worlds reaped and annihilated. Their Wracu certainly resist death and deform reality. How are none of them Ciphrang just waiting to shed their mortal bodies? They certainly don't lack willpower or conviction. They might only lack...belief?

I saw a similarity in how Peter Watts described the mental model of Blindsightverse vampires and those of Nonmen. Several other similar characteristics as well.
