TGO ARC Discussion / Re: Momemn

Fun little aside as I was rummaging through WLW, from chapter 5:
Quote from: Theliopa
I'm not sure surprise-surprise is a passion I can feel, Mother.
TGO, chapter 16, emphasis mine:
Quote
Theliopa stumbled, looked up in pallid alarm, then vanished in slumping shadows of stone brick debris.
A part of me hopes that deep down, she was pleased to put that question to rest.

Also, what broke the White Luck?  It seemed like it was Kelmomas's cry, but why would that do it?  Could it be because Yatwer can't see Samarmus in his mind?  Spitballing here.
I think it's one of two things (or more likely, a combination):

1. through some conceptual voodoo, constantly shadowing WLW in the hidden spaces of the palace, Kel found himself in the White Luck's blind spot.

2. Ajokli.

TGO ARC Discussion / Re: Crowdsourcing Errors/Corrections

Ha, my bad, I should've put some notation in there. Next time!

Errors like that hurt my eyes when I come across them, like a sudden discontinuity in the flow. Looking at Nil's post, I remember most of those like emotional scars.

Also, excellent job Nil!

Pp 329, towards bottom: "Was this what had she had wagered on her mad throw?"
Pp 330, middle paragraph: "And saw one the Tall stride from a crouch..."

I believe at one point outside of Dagliash, lights are mentioned reflecting off the walls of Momemn, I'll see if I can track that down.

Also just flipping through, saw on page 105, at the top it says ''Chapter Title' instead of Momemn.

General Misc. / Re: What are you watching?
« on: June 12, 2016, 08:43:52 pm »
Have any of you guys checked out The Preacher? Just caught the pilot so far and hadnt watched the next one. Supernatural going-ons, and I have no clue who is supposed to be on the side of good or evil from the pilot. Pretty good, nonetheless.
Have you read the comics?  Preacher was one of those adaptations that was talked about for years but nobody believed it would ever get off the ground. I have a couple of friends who also love the comics, and we agree - against all expectations, it is somehow both good and staying true to the voice of the original.

If you thought the pilot was pretty good, I'm confident the second episode will lock you in for the rest. The real scope of the story probably won't pan out for another few episodes at least, but man am I excited.

TGO ARC Discussion / Re: The DREAMS

That's a good point MSJ, that the gods have been touching on the other arcs (and arguably, TGO/Gilgaol) so why not?

Has there been any talk in the books about how dreaming might make one more sensitive to the Outside, akin to madness?

Maybe Anagke simply has an interest in seeing prophecies fulfilled, or in seeing the SA mirror the FA.

I agree that the womb is a window/doorway between Earwa and the GoG.  And if she has the power to forgive, I wonder if she has the power to heal as well.

Crackpot - her forgiveness is absolute, like Kellhus scratching the parchment clean, and when Koringhus died he had no nourishment to feed the Outside.

It does leave a lot of open questions about the Cishaurim relationship with the Outside. I'm particularly thinking about how Ciphrang can grab onto their Water and pull their souls out of their bodies. What is the depth of their connection to their sorcery/thaumaturgy? Maybe the Solitary God is outside the normal, er, Outside scheme.

Sure hope that kid isn't a skinspy sorcerer using Cants of Compulsion to manipulate Koringhus.

I was meaning the Dunyain getting the Chorae off her to use on Akka. It's not like he can't play a long game if needed to get it.
Oh I thought you meant he can't protect her with those on so they're still vulnerable.

I'd think that only happens if they subconsciously reveal what those chorae do. But I expect them to make it to the GO, so...plot armor.

28
Mimara has two chorae on her, so he's not clear of danger at all.
Oh hell, that's a good point.

29
Haha! If Akka taught another Dunyain the gnosis he'd deserve what he gets.

I'm very much hoping once he gets over his initial terror he'll realize that so long as he has standing wards, he has nothing to fear from either of them, and in fact their continued existence is purely at his dispensation.

"He is here ... with you ... not so much inside me as speaking with your voice."

This is a strange line as well, it almost seems like they are talking about 2 people. Kellhus says his kids had two souls one that watches.

Reminded me of Kell's conversation with Akka about 'how can we both be here?' and then mimics Akka's response as he responds (though I still consider that second part little more than a Dunyain parlor trick). The concepts of self, here, there, and even time seem to have a new sort of meaning in the Outside.
