Wow! I just started reading this lengthy essay by Stanley Fish on Milton's "Paradise Lost" and decided that I'd better post it pronto. It's from 1996, and I've never read "Paradise Lost", but Fish gets into the beliefs and consciousness of Satan vs. Adam, among other things. This might interest the Three Pound Brain aficionados.

Edited to add: "Paradise Lost" is the author's jumping-off point. The essay is about the nature and intellectual status of our beliefs.
