"WHO ARE THE DUNYAIN?"

A monastic cult dedicated to intellect, hidden in the mountains away from the world. Training in isolation for 2000 years, forever bent to one task, becoming a self moving soul. Forever seeking to free themselves from the chains of ignorance that bind all men and to rise above the cycle of before and after.

Welcome, dear readers, to R. Scott Bakker's The Second Apocalypse. A series that surpasses in scope Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, a world with more intrigue  than GRRM A Game of Thrones, and where Gods and magic are more deeply infused into the world than Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen.

"Take note, one and all, something amazing has begun" - Steven Erickson, his review of the first title in this series: The Darkness That Comes Before.

The journey will be long, and is not for the faint of heart, but for those who hold fast to the course, you will find a fantasy world the likes of which you have never before seen.

This website contains many spoilers for the series. If you are new to the series and are interested in finding out more, here is a pretty safe place to start:

WHO ARE THE DUNYAIN?

The Dunyain - A secretive sect, secluded in their mountain fastness away from the eyes of the World Born. Here they have bred for thousands of years, reigning in their emotions and desires and increasing their intellects beyond the limits of the World Born' All in their pursuit of the Logos - to be without Beginning or End, to master the Darkness that Comes Before and become a truly self moving soul.

Secluded in their mountain fastness they have faded into obscurity, until the time when an Anasurimbor must return to the world. - "One cannot raise walls against what has been forgotten".

"WHO ARE THE DUNYAIN?"

When i think of the Dunyain, so many things come to mind: fremen, mentats, Dunedain, heck even Jedi and grrm maesters!  Dying to find out the truth about the Dunyain! Please reveal it in The Unholy Consult, Mr . Bakker!!!

The otherworldly intelligence and mastery of circumstance that make the Dunyain so appealing to me is the same thing i love to see in films like Limitless or the BBC Sherlock.

Bakker has raised the bar so high on villains (Sauron who?) its going to take a Dunyain to save the world.

“WHO ARE THE DUNYAIN?”

Walkers of the Shortest Path.  Students of the Logos.  The Conditioned who strive to become Unconditioned, to obtain the Absolute, to come before ALL Circumstance.

What happens when a man like no other, who believes in nothing, enters a world full of meaning?  Simple words.  Strange ideas.  Epic consequences.
No whistling on the slog!

Who are the Dunyain? Men, like any other and yet unlike any other.

Who are the Dunyain? Are they the ultimate deceivers or the ultimate deceived?

Who are the Dunyain? Ever are men deceived.

@ Gorgorotterath - Nice!  But I can't pronounce your name, even in my head! :P

WHO ARE THE DUNYAIN?

Cool thing is, people who are entirely new to Bakker and people who have been reading him for a long time are both anticipating MASSIVE REVELATIONS!!!

There is still so much to learn...

Imagine you could be a fan of Tolkien in the middle of his publishing career, that's what's going on here!!!  LONG LIVE BAKKER

Heh, it's Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master.  Phoenix's character meets him and is kind of awed by him and asks him who he is, and that's the answer he gets.  Then he kind of goes on to possess him, Dunyain-style.
