I do however think Bakker has a far better grasp of armour than many other fantasy others. I much prefer scale/mail than suits of armour.

I really liked the lore of the Emiorali, or Bronzemen and imagined them to wear something like this:

I thought it might refer to the blade. They're meant to be antique so I guess the design was based on Bronze Age weaponry.

This is what I imagine the hiltless, triangular Cûnuroi blades to be like.

The hilt of a sword throughout the entire series is universally referred to as the pommel, which I think is meant to be the part at the bottom.

Been happening since TDTCB, Enshoiya has a long "pommel" when it's clearly a long hilt, like a katana. I thought it was a one off but it seems to be a conscious decision.

Then the antique Cûnuroi swords are referred to as without hilts, and triangular blades. If these are based on Bronze Age swords the triangular blade makes a lot of sense, but it would be a lack of crossguard that makes them antique.

Yeah, I came to that conclusion that it indicated trees/mountains/grass being the "hair" of the world.

Still reckon Imimorûl was bald as an egg.

I was just reading this again, and one line has me confused.

"the myriads that bolt through this blessed hair".

...the Nonmen don't have any whatsoever.

Kelmomas and Samarmus (presumably) are named after Celmomas and Sag-Marmau, two of the fiercest opponents of the No-God...which they eventually become.

From reading TUC and The False Sun, is anyone else if the opinion that the Threshold and the Vigil is one of the same? The platform near the top of the Upright Horn next to the door to the Golden Room.

It seems like another name for the same thing.

Now, if it's "the hanging porch of the Barricades", it should follow that the Barricades and the Portal are the same too?

I had always thought the Barricades encircled all of Golgerrath or was some sort of glamour, but given that the door is iron/nimil compared to the soggomant of the Horn, it makes me think that this is the door that Kellhus forces Aurang to open, and the same door that Mekeritrig needed the Mathesis Pin to pick the lock rather than break it down.

So basically Emilidis made a fancy automatic door...

These are seriously amazing, the one if Siroyon with the standard outside Golgotterath would be my dream TUC cover.

I read that scene before I saw the art and thought it would be an amazing cover.

Lo and behold...

I'm guessing it's just blubbering in his native tongue.

As an aside, I can't stand when he uses duplicate letters, in any context, it just doesn't seem to fit. I wish they were just written normally and left open to interpretation.

If I'm being told he screamed "Flee"' I don't need to see "Fleeeeee".

But yeah, Aurax is a lil bitch.

I'm pretty sure the Spearman was simp,y referred to as an Erattic after Kellhus beats him.

I had been hoping for a big name.

I've read again and I think I'm with Sausana, I got the impression Guswuran, being arrogant, felt he should be the one to greet the Quya as a sort of envoy.

The immediciacy of Sujara attacking them caught me off guard, it seems clearer now that he's the aggressor.

Vippol only comes to as Sujara falls into the Horde, and wants to avenge him. But he's brought round by Cilculiccas saying not to.

As Vippol advances the Mysunsai step back to show that they had no hand in it, and a repeat of Irsulor is averted, with the Red Ghoul taking the place of Carindusu.

...right?

Though part of me thinks Sujara-nin attacked him because he had the symbol of the Mikka on his robes. While Sujara's actions as a sorcerous mercenary inspired the Mysunsai, the Mikka themselves were formed as a result of his "predations", making me think they were in opposition to him.

He sees the Compass, remembers fighting them and flips, killing Guswuran.

That makes sense, I just felt it didn't read like that.

How could be the vanguard if he was already there, and much further forward than the Red Ghoul. I can follow Sujara losing it and attacking everyone, but I read it as Guswuran was the aggressor.

Then again, I'm sure Cilculiccas tries to reign in Vippol after he wants to kill the Mysunsai for attacking Sujara.

I think I need to reread again...and again. It reminds me of the Vokalati/Mandate fall out.

Just been rereading the section with the Red Ghoul and the Mysunsai and noticed something cool.

The Nilnameshi part of the Mysunsai "Bond of Three", the Oaranat's symbol is the Bent Scroll, and the symbol of the also Nilnameshi Vokalati is the Sundered Scroll.

Given how the Vokalati were wrecked by Triamis' Saka (where the name Saik later derives from?) does the symbol of the Oaranat seek to make them stand apart from the Vokalati? As in they bent but didn't break.

A subtle dig at the Vokalati who adopted Triamis' white and violet colours as ingratiation after getting their asses kicked by the Saka?

I just reread this section and I still can't get my head round it.

Obwe Guswuran cheers Ishterebinth joining the Ordeal then within seconds essentially wants to 1v1 them, over perceiving slight?

A force of Quya and Ishroi that arguably relives the Ordeal but the Mysunsai and Tydonni turn on them?

What was the reason, I'm so confused  ???

Part of me thinks it's due to his link to their origin, he seems to kick off after seeing the Mysunsai symbol. Though I read it as he only inspired the Mysunsai rather than founding it and teaching them.
