Read the synopsis of Hyperion and an thinking about picking it up. I do believe I'm in the mood for a bit of syfi. Though I'm torn between that and or one of China Mieville's other novels.

The first two Hyperion novels are incredible.  I've never gotten around to finishing the series, but I'm told it's good if you can push through it.

The first book is nearly immaculate; well-written and a great story.  The second book drags a bit, in my opinion; but oh man, that conclusion makes the whole thing totally worth it.  ;)

Has anyone else tried to read MiĆ©ville's Railsea?  I attempted and didn't get very far at all; really disappointing.

Search Railsea in the search bar, its come up a few times here and there, that should get you to the posts. I think most people would probably agree with you, at least around here.

Anyone know the store Half Price Books? Its a used book store, sells everything for cheap. The important part is, they now have a website, which a friend of mine recently discovered and showed me. I was pretty sure that 5 years ago I tried to find their site and it didn't exist, but it seems the store has joined the rest of civilization now. If you've got a long list of books you want to read, check out hpb.com and get them cheap.

What I've been reading for the past week:

Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth - Reza Aslan (at the behest of my Mom.)
What A Plant Knows - Daniel Chamovitz (An quick, interesting read, comparing our sensory experience with that which seems mediated in biochemistry. Cites a generous amount - for the size of the book - of Darwin's work as a biologist.)
Abaddon's Gate - James S.A. Corey (I've been sitting on this one for the better part of two months so needless to say I read a fair amount on the initial sitdown.)
The Existential Scream
Weaponizing the Warrior Pose - Declare War Inwardly
carnificibus: multus sanguis fluit
Die Better
The Theory-Killer

Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee - Dee Brown

Really good stuff.

Also reading Where Men Win Glory - Jon Krakauer.

Don't know why I am on this kick when I have Dan Simmons on deck while doing my re read...

Had a hard time deciding between a few sci fi books, but ended up with "the golden age" by John C Wright.
I also read"the brotherhood of the screaming abyss" by Dennis Mckenna,a biography on his brother Terence Mckenna.
Also just finished Sean Patricks book on Nicola Tesla.

Was D. McKenna's book good, Royce? I loved experiencing T. McKenna's writings during some of my more formative years.
