The Unholy Consult / Another (perhaps) simple question
« on: March 02, 2018, 08:21:38 am »
The Inchoroi's main goal is to metaphysically seal off the world from the Outside, which works as a great literary device as and as a philosophical idea of splitting the objective from the subjective totally. But does their aim truly make sense? I mean, yes they are damned, but they are also immortal, and apparently they don't suffer the same madness of immortality that afflicts the Non-Men. So why not just devote all their efforts to creating an impregnable fortress and living forever? I'm just saying, a lot of Inchoroi are now suffering eternally because they picked a fight with the Non-Men, when no Non-Man magic was ever capable of breaching the Ark.

The Unholy Consult / Easiest (read dumbest) question on this forum?
« on: February 28, 2018, 08:39:43 pm »
Hey, I haven't gotten to re-read TUC, I am in the middle of comprehensive exams for my Ph.D and my brain is fried to hell. Can someone explain how we know for a fact Ajokli is in Kellhus' head? I have been reading through the forums and there's a lot of speculation but I can't seem to find a specific line where it says Ajokli was in Kellhus' head.

General Earwa / PoN Posters/Wall Art
« on: December 04, 2017, 05:58:46 pm »
Hello everyone, sorry if this has been posted in another thread. I have seen a lot of cool art for the PoN on this forum and other places, but I can't seem to find any PoN-related posters, wall art or any swag for that matter in Amazon or Etsy. Has anyone tried making PoN stuff?

The Unholy Consult / Inchoroi
« on: September 09, 2017, 06:34:34 am »
So the Dunsalt is cool, everyone seems to agree, but...does anyone wish the Inchoroi were a bigger part of the story? It seems like the Inchoroi have literally gone extinct, with the exception of Aurax, who has become a whimpering submissive. The Inchoroi had been built up as this incredibly evil force that raped heroes and kings, masters of advanced technology (nukes, lasers, bio-engineering), who grew human heads to speak and wore the bodies of their foes for armor (and ornamentation).

Now they're dead.   :'(   :'(   :'(

Does anyone else think the Dunsalt would be cooler if there was a union of Inchoroi and Dunyain? Imagine an orgy-filled doomfest with the Inchoroi creating sci-fi weapons of death and new monster horrors while the Dunyain turned the masses of Sranc into phalanxes and organized armies.

Oh well. I mean, I kind of understand what Bakker was going for: the Inchoroi have lost the ability to reproduce since their 'Mother' the Ark is dead, and meanwhile the Dunyain have lost the Whale Mothers, so neither are capable of reproducing, so their stories mirror and coalesce, but still, I wish we had more Inchoroi lore/individuals since they were hyped up for 4 books and just fade away.

The Unholy Consult / Why Kelmomas?
« on: September 09, 2017, 06:17:13 am »
Hey everyone, just finished the book (I know I know, late to the party). Loved it, but among my many questions I have to ask: why Kelmomas? I don't want to believe it was just his bloodline that allowed him to be the No-God, but his emptiness. It is implied throughout the series the Kel is an amoral creature, with little or no concept of good. In fact, whereas all other characters consider what is right or wrong, or what leads to damnation or salvation, Kelmomas proceeds from an animal desire for what he wants (his mother) and what he fears (his father). Could this be what allows him to be sacrificed for the birth of the No-God? That he is a soulless soul, without any consideration for right or wrong? That by giving dominion of the world to an amoral force that blots out the vision of the Gods due to their existence being intertwined with morality?

Just a thought. Also, whether or not this is true, I have read some people say Kelmomas IS the new No-God. I personally don't want to believe it. I don't want to believe that the No-God is Kelmomas, because I would hate for the all-consuming whirlwind to be about to kill our heroes when suddenly it sees Esmenet and decides it wants a cuddle or some stupid shit. I want to think that the consciousness we call 'Kelmomas' was completely subsumed by the Sarchophagus, which contains ultimate power, but needed a template for rational thought.

TL DR; the No-God being a giant Jaeger in need of a pilot ala Pacific Rim would make me mad as fuck

General Earwa / References in the Series
« on: May 25, 2017, 03:58:25 am »
I realized today that Mimara's sword is called 'Chipmunk,' and Arya Stark's in ASOIF is 'Squirrel.' Could this be a reference? I know GRRM loves to fill his books with references and in the ASOIF series there is Cthulu, the Three Stooges, his old publishing house (the House of Tor). Maybe Bakker isn't as big into the references as Martin but has anyone found any weird side characters or lore that might be a reference to something else?

General Earwa / How to read TGO books
« on: April 19, 2017, 07:23:44 am »
(A bit of a ramble?)

Hey everyone, so as my semester is coming to an end I intend on reading TGO again because I loved it so much. Only this time I was thinking I would read an individual character's arch (prob Proyas), then the next character. (Akka). I was pondering that the other day and remembered J.R.R. Tolkein wanting to split the books up between Frodo/Sam and Aragorn. I understand that doesn't always work because what people focus on are events, big battles, etc., and so centering a book on events is far more popular and currently in vogue (particularly with Game of Thrones), but I can't help but think centering a reading on characters is more revelatory than events, particularly for something so concept-driven as the PON series. Thoughts? I am glad I read TGO books in proper sequence the first time around, and I think the PON series probably works better when read chapter to chapter rather than character arc by character arc, but I can't wait to read TGO focusing on each character in turn...

...except maybe the Momemn stuff, cuz I don't really care about Kelmomas and the rebellion.

General Earwa / Other forms of magic?
« on: April 13, 2017, 06:33:21 am »
Within Earwa there are a number of known magics meant to bring the powers of the subjective Outside to the objective mortal plane through reflections of the God. The Gnosis is regarded as the purest because it is an intellectually-based use of extractions, while the anagogic magic is a derivation of the Outside. Finally the Psukhe is an emotional acceptance of the God's will blending Outside and mortal plane.

My question is; could there be other forms of magic? Whether or not this comes up in the next few books, does the world Bakker created allow for alternate forms? I suppose this all comes down to what the basis for magic is, but it could be interesting if there was a type of magic based on say, familiar knowing, aka the type of knowledge that only comes from experience, like sex, or losing a loved one, and this subjective experience can be drawn upon to reinterpret the world. Or an exchange whereby the Outside is transposed upon the world (there appears to be some places where the Outside is far more present in Earwa, as shown in TGO).

Thoughts? Is there any basis for magic you think might be interesting?

General Earwa / Islands Near Golgotterath
« on: April 05, 2017, 07:05:38 am »
Hey everyone, great to be part of this community. Thanks to Madness and Wilshire, and apologies for the grief I caused you :P

But in any case, I noticed in TGO that there are a number of islands in the Misty Sea, interestingly one just south of Dagliash, and another in the narrow strait The Leash. Is it possible that these are inhabited by people or things? I doubt Sranc, since Sranc appear to need wide lands to roam, raid, rape and feed. I just think it would be interesting if you had a small pocket of people who lived on the islands through the Apocalypse. Imagine living on that island, separated from civilization for thousands of years, believing that your tiny island is the one save space in the universe, and on the shore are endless waves of monsters...and then one day you see a nuke in the distance.

Then there's the possibility that Akka/Mimara will have to travel to the island in the Leash, where people may have lived in the shadow of Golgotterath. It could be an interesting way to take the story.

Thoughts?

And again, it's great to be a part of this, props again to the mods, I had no idea spam was such a problem.
