General Q&A / Re: Do Nonmen have princes/princesses?
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:04:56 am »
Cet'ingira is referred to as a Prince in the first TTT chapter in the Dagliash flashback. Odd though, as he's not an Ishroi, if I remember. Just Quya.

I can't think of any others.

So Som had apparently deleted his old deviantart account. And only a tiny fraction of his fanart is now on his new blog. Anyone have access to all his stuff?—or the man himself. I was looking for the Skilura Aqueduct at Shimeh piece.

Hrrrrrg. I have such a seething petulant dislike of Luke Burrage. I even dislike his positive reviews of the first trilogy: his reasons for liking it are so facile and insubstantial—to my own facile and insubstantial mind lol.

For me, for Nonmen/Ihrimsu stuff anyway, any "c" that precedes an "i" is a hissing sibilant and any "c" that precedes any other vowel is a hard consonant.

So it's Sil-kool-e-kas.

Too many crackers imo.

Totally. The Ketyai ain't white. Proyas should be played by a 20-something handsome dude from Bollywood, not some white cracka boi.

Pedro Pascal is a POC. And I was under the impression that the Ketyai were like Southern Europeans.

But, yea, yellowfacing is still a bit of a problem. :/

I mean, it's up to interpretation, but I'll die on the hill that the Ketyai are all POC in my head: Nansur are east Indian, Conriyans/Ainoni are Iranian/Persian, Kianene are Seljuk Turks/Saracens.

Saubon refers to Gotian as a "shit-skinned pick" in his fit of pique at Mengedda. I wouldn't think of a mildly tanned Italian dude as "shit-skinned" lol  Idk, I think it makes the racial politics of the world way more robust and divorces the Three Seas even further from Standard European Fantasy World v.598.

Priyanka Chopra is everyone's premiere fancast choice for Esmenet by the way.

Feels like we are going to get a 'Star Wars' kind of ending, with a big army battle (outside Golglutterath), while much more personal stuff goes down on the inside.

Random hunch: Kellhus is going to experience the Inverse Fire that the Consult use to initiate them with the experience of damnation.

That could just as easily describe the climax of TTT: the only things that actually matter are Kel confronting Moe, Cnaiur confronting Moe, Achamian and Esmenet, everything else is just action eye-candy.

I've been thinking about potential LOTR analogues in the upcoming climactic battle. More than any surprise reinforcements ala Rohirrim at Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith, I think it is the surprise reversal of potential reinforcements. In this capacity I refer to the Corsairs of Umbar arriving at Harlond, the Orcs believing that they have fresh allies and troops, but surprise!—it's Aragorn and co. leading the Gondorian levies from Pelargir, Lebennin and Anfalas etc. etc.

It is the reversal that excites me. I anticipate a similar event when Ishterebinth arrives at Golgotterath. The Consult will wrongly believe that the forces of the Injoy-Niyas are still allies. I imagine that Mekeritrig will see the Quya chariots on the horizon and say something like: "At last, Nin'Ciljiras has roused himself. We will finally eradicate these pesky humans." But as they get closer there will be some visual signifier that they are allied with Humanity and not the Consult. I want it to be the sigil of Nil'giccas or whatever, but as far as we know no such thing exists, so let's say it's the Copper Tree of Siol, the sigil of Cu'jara-Cinmoi, the first great enemy of the Inchoroi.  Mekeritrig's elation will slip into horror as he realizes what's actually happening: "The Exalted Stronghold stands with the Ordeal!" He will cry out.

It'll be better written than that, but it's the surprise reversal of known reinforcements which I anticipate.

Also some dragons. And I hope the Consult have legions of Ursranc to fight on more equal footing with the human armies.

Xenophobia, the need to repudiate something that is anathema, I don't know.

If we have the Sirwitta/Cimoira issue as a case study, the halfbreed girl was integrated back into the Cunoroi and considered "of the tribe". Anasûrimbor Sanna-Jephera, another halfbreed was integrated into human society, then the Anasûrimbor line goes on. Maybe the issue isn't the miscengenation in itself, but the fact that the Anasurimbor decided to become part of human society and repudiated Nonman culture. Like a human deciding to go into the wilderness and join a sranc tribe, something so utterly absurd so as to be worthy of contempt.

Honestly this reminds me of Elros and Elrond from the Silmarillion. Two Half-Elven twin brothers: the one decides to become fully human and become the first King of Numenor, the other decides to become fully Elf and becomes a great lord of the Noldor.

But being a Dunyain can't exactly be a secret, no? The Consult have known of the Dunyain for 20 years. And they've certainly kept the puppet state in Ishterebinth informed long before the events of TAE are to be believed; if they used Nonmen from Ishterebinth to finish off Ishual. It's also no secret that Kellhus's children would inherit some of his strength.

The secret in question must the Nonman heritage. But the passage is vague enough, I will admit.

Edit: Here's the salient line: "How does a mortal girl, a captive hidden from sun, sky—even the Gods!—become the terror of the Ishroi, throw all Ishterebinth into uproar?" He bared fused teeth. "But I know. I know what you are—the secret of your obscene line."

Emphasis on the "I". Were he speaking to the collective knowledge of the Consult regarding the Dunyain, surely "we" would've been more appropriate.

Reread the Ishterebinth chapters yesterday. One of the sections where Serwa is vexing Harapior with her singing he is thinking about his wife and how she would sing to him thus. Then in a moment of lucidity, he glares at Serwa and tells her that he knows the secret of her blood.

Jiricet is totally his kid.
