The Thousandfold Thought / Links to Fan Resources

This has been updated to reflect all new links.

Willem suggested this thread to consolidate fan resources on and off the forum. I've updated this post to include an extra-plethora of redundant links.

1. There is a sticky'd thread with a link to all Cu'jara Cinmoi's posts. At this point, I'm not personally going to take the time to transcribe Bakker's Zombies Three Seas posts. Everyone is welcome to pollute that thread with their favorites. That includes any aphorisms that anyone would like to share. Eventually that thread can earn the title curated like lockesnow suggested. [It actually became its own thread: Curated Sayings].

2. lockesnow was kind enough to consolidate the epigrams from all the books for us. In every book subforum [WLW, TJE, TTT,
TWP, TDTCB] there is a sticky'd thread. I'm working on consolidating TPB's aphorisms and the new ones Bakker's been doing over social media: [This has been done within Curated Sayings]. Truth Shines, I believe, and Wilshire also got the Wikiquote project off the hop and everyone is welcome to partake in those threads (again, sticky'd by subforum [WLW, TJE, TTT, TWP, TDTCB].

3. I'm not sure what qualifies as critical responses - I have a list of Interviews & Articles that I'd consolidated over the years. lockesnow still has a few - referenced in other threads - where Bakker has some quality commentary on people's responses and reviews. Anyone is welcome to add any links to anything qualifying as relating to Bakker but also not an Interview & Article, like reviews, responses, commentary.

4. Fan Resources:
There's The Prince of Nothing Wiki.
The aforementioned Wikiquote: The Second Apocalypse, R. Scott Bakker.
Three Pound Brain - Bakker's Blog.
Many, many threads on Westeros Literature forum [enumerated by book titles and roman numerals. They are a couple odd threads out - as our speculation was and is insatiable - but you can ask around there for those or search the history for Bakker and other keywords.

5. Everyone is welcome to and encouraged to participate in The Almanac [Nearing the end of TDTCB!]. All I can ask, at this point, is that people participate in the forum at large as they can - we all have unique lives.

Also, please add anything that would qualify as a resource that I've missed.

EDIT:

Zombie Three-Seas - The Resurrected Read-Only version of Three-Seas forum, a forum for the Second Apocalypse which was finally overwhelmed by Spam Sranc after the release of TJE.

Literature / God Decays by Benjamin Cain
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:37:53 pm »
Just pimping the debut novel of sometimes TPB guest-blogger and comment regular, Benjamin Cain, proprietor-extraordinaire of Rants Within the Undead God; beating a novel path for all of us through the morass of intellectual nihilism and religious atheism (among other things).

Ben initially revealed God Decays on RWUG and offers a number of free sample chapters for your reading pleasure. Bakker recently plugged the debut on TPB and Ben has links (US) on RWUG for American and European Amazon releases and the book is also available on Kindle.

I'll have my paperback in a couple weeks (when I can afford it, sorry Ben - broke student ;)) and plan on giving Ben a taste of SA's dissection skillz then.

Cheers.

In watching the first two of the three-part Black Friday episodes, I've decided that either Martin has way more dicks in Game of Thrones than TSA or Bakker will never be accepted for his few pendulous phalli.

But everyone must watch this clip before making a claim ;).

Anyone sharing the love?

The Grand Design might be one of my favorite fantasy books ever - the first book in the series is also fantastic, though it all suffers in the third volume.

The White-Luck Warrior / Nonmen Society
« on: October 15, 2013, 01:47:28 pm »
I apologize as there are a number of 'Nonmen &' threads around; much of the possible subject matter will overlap here so at some point later I will consolidate the various threads here as well (especially as Auriga might jump on this, having returned).

I want to speculate about the societal organization of the Nonmen pre-Womb Plague.

I was reminded about this in a few paragraphs of The Republic of Thieves and it's something I have thought on for some time now.

My first contention is that Nonmen experienced a rigid-caste system with Quya at the top. Sorcerous ability is in-part hereditary and the Quya are a hereditary caste. High Ainon serves as a metaphor for the Nonmen Mansions. Quya rule.

Also, the Nonmen don't seem to use Chorae. Mind you, we've not seen an Ishroi who isn't also a Quya. But it would make sense that if Quya are nobility and the Chorae were invented and then barred in their civil wars, then Quya rule.

Hrm. I'll see what thoughts accumulate.

I think this is a very important discussion. The Tusk says that Nonmen are False, which isn't true. Also, Nonmen society stumbles over Topoi and (maybe, simultaneously) Damnation. Arguably, only the Quya have to worry about Damnation. Yet all these issues will find themselves central to the events in Ishterebinth in TUC.

News/Announcements / Forum Ranks
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:04:21 pm »
EDIT:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Current ranking system is as follows (as of 2014):

Emwama (0)
Suthenti (Caste-Menial) (25)
Momurai (Caste-Apparati) (75)
Kijneta (Caste-Noble) (150)
Great Name (300)
Old Name (500)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Wilshire finally prompted me to figure out how the forum ranks work.

Currently they are:

Newbie
Jr. Member
Full Member
Sr. Member
Hero Member

I'd appreciate suggestions before I change them to something content specific. I also think I can probably expand beyond only five categories. Remember, these are related to specific milestone post counts.

Is anyone interested in the practice? Since reading Rhetoric for Radicals last month, I've decided it's something I'm going to work at.

I'm working my way through the first two pages of The Art of Manliness' 35 Greatest Speeches in History (unfortunately, history is skewed as just what remains for our perusal). Just rote memorization and practice (perhaps, peoples also have some speech memorization tips too).

If interested, anyone know of any other good speeches?

Cheers.
