Statistics are great. Using statistical correlations to "show" blacks are inferior is not great.

Statistics can be "ok" when used properly, but unfortunately they are mostly used for propaganda/manipulation.

This has definitely not been my experience with statistics. I'm sure you'd like The Undercover Philosopher, Tao.

The less aware, the higher the manipulation  ;D

The Crabikiad / Re: What's the story!?
« on: November 28, 2017, 08:44:12 pm »
Crabby, although is a full blood Dunyain, was never conditioned.  He received half assed training by a lone Dunyain, while on the run, would be shoddy at best.  Kellhus had 20+ years to prepare for his final showdown.  I doubt that Mog will hang out waiting for Junior to get his shit together.

Ah, yes, but Mog doesn't know about him - mystery, what are his capabilities, what surprising strengths will we see from NOT being conditioned, yet still Dunyain? The 1/2 breed may well surprise us ... or Bakker will flush him out as a dead-end like Sorweel.

I think most interesting is that Men and Women differ extremely in how economically mobile they are, according to this. Men appeared closely bound by their parent's income, while women not as much.
Statistics are fun!

You goad me, Wilshire ( or was it MSJ I blasted about statistics? ). shrugs, you all look the same to me.

General Misc. / Re: What's your favorite kind of pie?
« on: November 27, 2017, 06:31:37 pm »
Key lime and lemon are my favorite (as long as they properly make the meringue - its not just heavy whipped cream, should be light, ideally with some proper browning on the top)

Dude, BFK, just make your own whipped cream - its like 2 ingredients, sugar and heavy whipping cream. Tastes way better too.

So after 3 pages we've got

Blueberry - (i don't think Ive ever had a great blueberry pie, but its my favorite fruit so I'd probably like it)
Lemon Meringue
Key Lime
Pumpkin

2 earwa pies

a bunch of savory pies/pizza

several spanish desserts im not familiure with

Pizza being the apparent only common denominator, maybe the absence of Apple is interesting. I started this thread because I see a direct relationship between one's pie of choice and the nature of horror they enjoy.

We should find out Bakker's favorite - anyone know it?

Aaah, I miss pumpkin pie - I'll have to put in the effort to either track down a gluten-free one or make one myself

I suggest to anyone to watch it, its good tv and a differrent type of show than the norm. To book readers, it does give you a better understanding of the books and aome kick-ass scenes from the booka also. My favorite are the Coming to America scenes....awesome.

MSJ - the Coming to America scenes were awesome - was it just a cool story or did it serve as backdrop for one of the characters ( won't say who to avoid spoiling ) or more?

Anyone watching Preacher?

Any cool pies consumed over Thanksgiving? And for those of you not in USA, feel free to contribute as well if you've discovered anything interesting.

ThoughtsOfThelli ... maybe add a list of Earwa delicacies to your mission.

Philosophers On The Art of Morally Troubling Artists - six philosophers and one comedian tackle the title theme.

I haven't read much yet, but wanted to capture my initial response before allowing other intelligence to influence my initial position ( and  forget what it even was ). Our "work" is independent of our moral psychology ( I put it this way because I'm guessing - since I'm not like them, I can only guess - some, if not all of them, didn't "realize" they were doing anything "wrong" - of course, Bill Cosby did - but some of the harassment by others may not have been self evident ). I've encountered moral idiots produce incredible work, and the opposite and incredibly cool/great people produce excellence, and the permutations go on and on. Simply put, I have no problem still loving Bill Cosby's stand up routines ( never was much into his tv shows ) just as much as I always have and he can be sent directly to jail for his crimes. Maybe I've been influenced by "Evil is a matter of perspective" to allow for humans to show the world different "faces". It's not a question of morality to still like the art as you always have - just whether you think your "heroes" deserve a pass or elbow room negotiating morality or the law. I hesitate to give this much attention, I think most know it's completely fine to enjoy the old art ( and the new even ) of freshly revealed criminals as long as we don't provide special dispensation of justice. The BIG questions are how did it go on so long, what's it say about a lawyer knowingly representing a guilty person, etc.

I think it's saying to take the new in before dulling it with understanding ... or it's bullshit.

I shared that with my older son, he loved it. Seemed like a site that would have more than just the 1 comic, but couldn't find any more.
