I would have liked more pages of meat orgies. I assume I'm speaking for all us, eh?
I'm sure you speak for all the sranc present. ;)

I'd have liked to see more of what the Witches were up to while all that was going on. We got a tantalising tidbit about them "going mad" when Serwa turned up and asked where they were, but that was pretty much all.

Why the use of the word "hair"? Possibly just because we read Sorweel's interpretation of the text?
That's a good point. 'Hair' could just be how the Amiolas translates the concept from Ihrimsu because it's being worn by a human.

Stepping away from the hairy issue for a moment. Could there be any connection between Imimorul supposedly coming from the sky and the Nonman association of depth with the past and altitude with the future (c.f. the Great Pit of Years)?

General Q&A / Re: Study of Aporos Among Nonmen
« on: September 04, 2017, 11:54:52 am »
IIRC, the order of events was:

1 - The Aporos is conceived of.
2 - A few Quya start experimenting with it.
3 - It is outlawed.
4 - Aporetic Quya unwilling to give up their research defect and flee to the Ark.
5 - Aporetic Quya working in the Ark create the first Chorae.

It's pretty clear that Chorae were invented after the Aporos was already forbidden and cannot therefore be the reason for the ban. It's also clear that the Aporetics defected after the ban, so that defection/treason also cannot be the reason for the ban.

If you take time out of the equation, then the only way anything can change is for the entire universe to be remade from the ground up. Including all your memories and knowledge, meaning you can never be aware of the change. That's what being one of the Hundred is like.

As I've said before, mortals are divided by moments, the Gods by whole Realities.

Though, rule of thumb, always read your posts before posting ;).
Read them, and then copy them to your clipboard, because the forum is hungry and likes to randomly eat posts. Especially the long, insightful ones you spent ages composing. Speaking from bitter experience here. :)

The difference as I understand it is that the Anagogic sorcerer who wants to set you on fire says "a great big dragon breathes on you" and the Gnostic sorcerer instead says "E=mc²". The latter is much more efficient, but also requires a deeper understanding of what heat is.

Anagogic sorcery is Shakespeare. The Gnosis is Bach.

With any other author, I would confidently predict that discovering what's in the box would be the key to defeating the No-God. But this is Bakker, so I suspect the revelation, if it comes at all, will turn out to be entirely unhelpful. :P

triangular blades.
I still wonder if Bakker meant triangular like an akinakes, or triangular in cross-section?

And, yeah, fantasy authors saying "without a hilt" when they mean "without a crossguard" annoys me too.

They don't necessarily see Cnaiur get sandblasted. They just see him walking into the Whirlwind. Dollars to donuts most Scylvendi will assume the Most Violent Of All Men actually became/awakened the reborn Lokung.

On a tangent... I hate it in fiction (books or films) when the reader knows more than the characters.
But the reader/watcher always knows more than some characters, unless it's a single-viewpoint work. Seems a weird thing to get upset about.

Also, I think it's probably going to be a pretty interesting juxtaposition going forward regarding the Mutilated, especially, as the reader knows about them but the characters do not...
On a similar note, the characters presumably all believe Kellhus is in the Carapace. The only people who know it's Kelmomas in there are in the Golden Room. I wonder if that will be significant?

I interpreted hair as a metaphor for trees/plant life.
Yes, but why would a poet of an utterly hairless species use that metaphor in the first place? Logically, Nonmen shouldn't even have a word for 'hair'. 'Fur' or 'pelt', of course, because of animals (and the Emwama would surely have been seen as just another animal), but not 'hair' with its (for want of a better term) human connotations. Yet the poem deliberately uses the word 'hair'. It's odd.

It's become rather clear to me that my interpretation of these books so often runs against consensus that I must be deluding myself as to what I am reading.
Screw consensus. Anyway, I at least agree with you that Kelmomas has already spoken with the Mutilated before his father arrived.

We know from the EG that Kellhus had been observed wandering around on Mengedda, swapping heads with his Decapitants, so it's quite possible the Mutilated had some inkling of his pact with Ajokli.

The Mutilated seemed entirely too keen to engage Kellhus in conversation. A superficial interpretation would be that they were behaving more like Bond villains than Dunyain, expositing for the benefit of the reader. Words are weapons to the Dunyain, though, which means they were gabbing on like that for a reason. Maybe they were keeping Kellhus occupied until Kelmomas was in position? Maybe that whole bit about wanting Kellhus to become the No-God was misdirection on their part?

For the record, I did mean Serwa. I assumed she was responsible for all those Surillic Points floating up near the ceiling... ;)
