Lol, I definitely don't think they were trying to diminish the work involved by others. Just that many people - as Colbert's kids there - seem to think that motion capture is more akin to CGI like Transformers or something than just a costume basically (albeit a very complicated one that takes a lot of people).

VFX artists have been rolling their eyes in reaction to Serkis's comments in the past.

Important factoid is that this also reflects the awful working conditions in that field.

Besides, I *am* looking forward to War for the Planet of the Apes.

Yeah, Serkis strikes me as an (A)ctor in the (L)iterature sense. How dare those code monkeys think they add to his performance ;).

Really want to catch this in theaters. First two were glorious.

I still remember being in a packed cinema for the first one (I've lost track of their unfortunately hyper-generic titles) and being amazed when Caesar first yelled "No!" at Draco Malfoy. The entire theater went dead silent/gasped, and you could actually feel the audience's energy change from there on into the finale.

TIL that there are devices that measure fluid density, temperature, and flowrate using the Coriolis effect.  Basically, you can measure all of this without a sensor physically interacting with the fluid - I find this amazing.

Andy Serkis is an amazing body actor.

I watched an interview with him on and he was stood up and then he mimicked an ape and his whole body seemed to change when he did it, it was barely noticeable whilst at the same time making him appear completely different. It spurned me to do a bit of reading and Serkis seriously impressed me.

He is billed on Star Wars as well so hopefully has a hand in bringing to life Snoke.

Just saw War for the Planet of the Apes. Superb film. Great presentation as well, Dolby Cinema, except for the 3D. This movie was just not photographed for that format, and I was longing to see it in 2D instead of this eyestraining conversion.

It sure is great acting from Serkis. Still, and however, if you look at Serkis's face and Caesar's, they are not exactly carbon copies. The VFX artists have done a marvelous job.

Was that on Graham Norton when Tom Holland - who is a trained dancer apparently whose performance as Rihanna on Lip Sync Battle is amazing - followed up Serkis' impression, SR?

Yeah, he apparently played Snoke and one of his acolytes played Maz Kanata - and of course their company does the motion capture.

Glad to hear it's good. In that Colbert link above, they show a clip which showcases the different CGI layers making the difference in their faces.

I haven't seen any of the new Planet of the Apes movies. They sound very good. I think War opens in STL on Friday. Seeing a movie would be a great way to beat this 100° heat. No end in sight.

Hey Madness,

Yeah it was on Graham Norton, just his whole bodyshape and the way he switched between poses. Really interesting to watch!

Jut like his potrayal of Gollum - non human movement.

Andy Serkis would be the best person I could think of to play a Sranc!

[EDIT Madness: Not sure how this ended up in a thread in News/Announcements but all fixed.]

So, about that Phelps v. Shark thing.

I mean, besides the already discussed preposterous nature of the thing itself...
