Answer number 5 recalls the Inchoroi and the Scylvendi.
-
Actually, it's from Conan.
-
Yeah well I thought it sounded like something Cnaiur/Scylvendi would say. You and your knowledge/logic....
-
Lol, is Conan the original barbarian archetype?
-
I suppose so - even if there was anyone before Howard who had a similar character, it never became popular.
-
Maybe the dude from Gilgamesh - Enkidu, I think?
-
In a general sense, yes, Enkidu would be the first. But in popular culture it's Conan.
-
Actually, it's from Conan.
HA! Crom laughs at your four winds.
-
How come we've never riffed Howard/Bakker... there should be some Cnaiur/Moenghus the Younger fodder in there somewhere?
-
Well, the only analogy I can see is that Scylvendi perceive "civilised" races as corrupt and contemptible, which is a sentiment often expressed either by Conan directly or by the narrator.
-
Interesting... echoed by Cnaiur ;).
-
And the fact that he has black hair and blue eyes, perhaps?
-
If I recall correctly, LTG suggests Bakker is a Conan fan.
-
And last night I suddenly realised something that's been nagging me. I knew that the scene in TDTCB where Cnaiur is lying in the mud on the bank of the river Kiyuth and pretending to be dead reminded me of something. And then I realised - there's a similar scene in Karl E. Wagner's "Dark Crusade", where Jarvo, the general of a beaten army, is lying in the mud and his enemies think he's dead.
-
Interesting... that seems like something Bakker would read.
