I seem to remember him along the rights about 5 years ago as well, but it fell through. Or an I imagining that?

The Great Ordeal / Re: [TGO Spoilers] Why did he return?
« on: September 09, 2016, 05:57:45 pm »
I think when Malowebi asks Meppa what he is and he replys, "Weary". Says a lot about Kellhus's human nature.

You might be reading too much into this. When he returns to Momemn in The Judging Eye (or was it WLW?) to see Psatma Nannaferi, he's exhausted purely because of the exertion of travelling that distance by teleportation. And that journey was much shorter. I think he was simply tired because of that.

While that is plausible, why say "weary" when he meant "tired" or "exhausted."  No, to me weary has a whole different connotation than either of those others and so it seems wholly reasonable to draw the inference that MSJ did from his choice of words.  Being weary isn't just being tired.
This.

Also, I'm not buying anything we see of Kellhus that doesn't come from his own POV. He never stops dissembling. Ever. And we as readers only get the perspective of the POV character, only ever able to *guess* at what's really going on in his head even after 6 books.

ETA: also, Kellhus want really tired after travelling in TJE. He just pretended to be too manipulate Esme. He always makes an effort to appear at least somewhat human with her so that she will stay in her place.

I just can't see any of these books making it to the screen. Or at least not in a way that's at all satisfying.

The worst thing though would be if the TV show overtook the books, like with ASoIaF. I couldn't bear having the end of trilogy 3 be shown on screen first, in a sub-par production. Not after all these years.

I think the "catch" thing is more to tie in the peach she threw at WLW earlier on with the chorae later on (which she had no involvement in). RSB's aim being to underline the casualness and precariousness in the whole situation. The whole saviour-of-mankind thing nearly ended as easily as one throws a piece of fruit.

Surely the quake had to be involved in the white luck - wasn't the falling chorae the thing that was supposed to kill Kellhus? Hence the quake must have been involved, no?

Sigh. Need to do a re-read already.

Proyas is more intelligent than Saubon, and so provided he can be adequately steered, he is by far the higher prized of the two when it comes to matters of subtlety.

So, Kell never really sees them as "either or", he has very distinct roles mapped out for them throughout. We don't appreciate yet exactly what those roles are / were.

General Earwa / Re: The 144,000

In all honesty, I never even thought of if as not being literal; I just assumed the number was actually of significance. Hearing what you both said was actually quite the revalation (har har)

I'm sure it's literal as far as the Inchoroi prophecy goes. I just don't think we'll see it happen. Or that it's necessary to shut off the Outside.
Is it possible that the 144k is one of the "untrue" prophecies that Aurang refers to when talking to skinny-Soma?

Hope not, personally - it was one of the most interesting hooks for me in WLW :)

The White-Luck Warrior / Re: TWLW Chapter Headers

So, there's a passage I've always been confused about regarding the 144k. It's from chapter 6 of WLW (page 187 according to my kindle app).

Quote

A sadness welled through the old Wizard as he walked and peered, a mourning that possessed the airy clutch of premonition. There was poetry in loss and ruin, a wisdom that even children and idiots understood. For a time he suffered the eerie sense that he walked one of the great capitals of the Three Seas, that these were the ruins of Momemn, Carythusal, or Invishi, and they were the Last Men, thirteen instead of the one hundred and forty-four thousand of legend, and that no matter how far they travelled, how many horizons they outran, all they would find was soot and broken stone.

Is Akka referring to some knowledge that the Consult want to reduce everyone to 144k, or is he referring to some other "legend"? I guess it could be either, but seems clear that it's generally known amongst the mandate at least.

I agree on that - Saubon was supposed to die as a martyr.

Nau Cayuti dreams begin after the Qirri,  after Seswatha passes the baby into the mechanism in the coffers (sorry, my memory is vague on that detail, but it's in WLW). As far as I remember, Akka never dreams as Seswatha after that point.

The first significant deviation is at the end of TTT, where Anaxophus misses with the Heron Spear. Prior to that, it's major stuff like seeing himself in the mirror - I don't count things of that nature.

And after that, well, all kinds of revelations, at exactly the times that suit Kellhus and whatever his plans are for Akka / Mimara.

Author Q&A / Akka's dreams

I guess this will be answered in the books, or not at all. But... How significant is Kellhus' hypnotism of Akka in TTT regarding the subsequent deviations in the dreams? And all dreams in The Aspect Emperor generally? What happened when he spoke to Seswatha?

Thanks to Bakkerfans on Twitter for linking to this giveaway  ;)

My prediction - Kayutas will be sacrificed by Kellhus and become the No-God, closing the Nau-Cayuti / Kayutas couplet.
