The Unholy Consult / Re: [TUC Spoilers]What was the point

Can't remember where it's stated, but the Nail only appeared in the sky shortly before Arkfall, the implication being that it's something to do with the Inchoroi.

As always, it seems, I fall back to the Outside Kellhus theory as explanation for the dreams.

I think the gods were wary of Kellhus because of the attention and worship he drew to himself. They don't like rivals.

OK, I fear we're missing the point. Let me rephrase the question not as "why would they fear damnation" but rather "why wouldn't they all be Ciphrang".

Outside Kellhus!

I always felt the individual in the visions was calm, collected, rational. Not traits I associate with Ajokli, from what we've seen of him so far.

But Cnaiur would enjoy himself quite a lot, I think. Anyway, the point is that as nasty a piece of work Cnauir (or Ginyursis or any of them are)or how strong willed they are, they pale in comparison, no? Ten thousand years of hatred, of inflicting misery and pain, drenched in suffering and malice. Come on!

We learn through the series that particular nasty individuals, those with the strongest wild, who have the most vile ill - intent, tend to become Ciphrang.

But not the Inchoroi? I don't buy it. By all the reasoning given, Aurang for sure, and probably *all* of the Inchoroi, fall into this category.

Awesome is a good adjective to describe this book.

The right one even. SR, I've missed you, friend :).

Saubon's death in TGO was heartbreaking. "Don't listen to him!" indeed.

I really liked that glorious, damaged bastard.  It was a great and terrible moment, with more than a little foreshadowing for poor Proyas.

That was such a horrifying and *awesome* moment in TGO. When I read the draft I immediately stopped, grabbed my TWP, and checked Saubon's scene. That poor fuck.

Completely. For me this was the biggest breath taking moment in the whole seven books.

Poor Saubon.

I believe that's definitely what he *wanted* us to take from that.

The Unholy Consult / [TUC spoilers] The visions - Not Ajokli?
« on: August 06, 2017, 04:03:08 pm »
Guys, first up, I'm on holiday and on my phone so it's difficult to read the TWO PAGES of new content  :P So, if this is being discussed already then please somebody link me to it!

OK, from my read of the AMA, there were two direct questions regarding whether Ajokli was sending the visions. The first asked if it was Ajokli, and Bakker replied with "that would certainly seem to be a safe supposition". The second time asked if Ajokli had been talking to Kellhus since the Circumfix and the reply was "that which comes after determines that which comes before". Paraphrasing both times, sorry.

I note he does not say "yes" in either case.

I don't believe it's Ajokli at all. I'm not letting go of the Outside Kellhus theory unless it's prized from my child dead hands. Thoughts?

85
Didn't RSB say in the q&a it was more to do with a lack of identity rather than a surfeit?

86
Sorry, that was all on my phone. For surveyors, read sorcerous. Other typos also abound.

Basically, it's a good point but I assume nothing. Ajokli might not be able to find Kellhus because he's on the belt, or because he's in the Outside and the Outside is shut. I assume nothing any more!

87
How, when Kellhus clearly comes back before being choraed. Its clearly Kellhus who says, "Kel...what?" (Paraphrasing).

I don't think that's necessarily true. It could be Ajokli pretending to be him. Before Kellhus enters the Golden Room, Malowebi notes that he does a lot of surveyors chanting. Maybe he's giving Ajokli his head. So knows, is what I'm saying. I don't don't take anything for granted any more.

^^ agreed.

I love the bleakness of these books. For millenia, the Cunuroi thought they could "sneak" past damnation and into Oblivion. But every single one of them that looks into the Inverse Fire sees that for the bullshit it is.

I think TheCulminatingApe is spot on.

Curethan, you're being too literal. Don't worry about balls throwing balls. Think about the entity that is embodied by the concept of the Subject. And similarly for the Object. Apply that analogy (which is exactly what language is in Earwan metaphysics) to the case of a soul.
