Where did he say that?

Maybe the haloes in general are real but the ones she sees on the skin spy are fake?

I'm guessing this is answered in TGO?

That's a good point, I think it's said that wracu were specifically bred to counter gnostic sorcerers.

Would be funny if it actually did turn out to be a mundane slight of hand.

Author Q&A / What's with the circles on the map of Eärwa?
« on: June 24, 2016, 12:58:01 am »
People have noticed that there are several circles on the map you drew that are similar to the circle around golgotterath. Is there any importance to them? Are they other spaceship crash locations?

So it's not theoretically possible to teleport yourself with the Psukhe as it's only a crude tool as Akka says?

Painful to the point where they can't function while wearing them? Because pain in return for immunity from the most powerful weapon in Eärwa is not a bad trade.

Eleäzaras’s recollection of the Cishaurim attack on the Scarlet Spires describes the assassins as having "flickered into existence". Some people have speculated that this is a teleportation similar to the Metagnostic version, or that Moënghus transported the Cishaurim assassins into the Scarlet Spires base magically.

So is there a Psûkhe equivalent to Metagnostic teleportation?

If not, did Moënghus innovate anything with the Psûkhe the way Kellhus did with the Gnosis?

If I remember correctly, Kellhus understood how the Psukhe worked, that it was based on passion, simply by talking to Achamian about it on the road. How is it possible that Moënghus who went to Shimeh and worked with the Fanim could not understand how it worked before he agreed to have his eyes removed? Makes little sense for a Dunyain to agree to have his eyes plucked out so carelessly.

Author Q&A / Re: Why a Womb-Plague?
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:05:20 am »
They attempted to give immortality to their Nonmen allies to begin with, to save their souls, realized afterward that their gift was fatal to their women.
Such revelation! Do you really mean that the Inchoroi did not intend the Womb Plague as the ultimate result of their gift? Or, also, that it was truly a gift and not some long-term plan to make them all go crazy? Just a tragic accident... ?

I think he means that at first they tried to give immortality to their "Nonmen allies" (the ones that joined the Inchoroi like Ninjanjin and whoever else) but discovered that it killed women. So they decided to use it on the Nonmen in general because their goal was "the death of birth" like the glossary says.

However, I'm not sure if this satisfactorily answers H's questions from the thread he linked to:

Quote
At first blush, it made no sense.  What kind of garbage weapon makes your enemy immortal?  Sure, it extinguished future generations of Nonmen, but if you could kill all the women, why not kill all the men too and be done with it?  I tried to explain it to myself that perhaps the Tekne was incompletely known or was unable to be wielded effectively, but both of those came to me as hollow explanations.

Author Q&A / Kellhus' dream on the Circumfix
« on: June 22, 2016, 02:17:22 am »
After all these years I've yet to see any remotely convincing explanation either here or on Westeros for what that dream is supposed to mean (someone correct me if I'm wrong)... Only post I found that even discussed it in-depth is this, but I'm not sure that I buy it. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/topic/127040-bakker-xxxv-tyrant-of-rat-nation-worshipped-as-rat-of-rats/&do=findComment&comment=6949890

Is there any comment that you can make on this?

Do people really think these are too spoilery?  Fuck.  Now I'm second guessing all this shit.

It wasn't until someone made a big deal out of it and told everyone that it's a massive spoiler. At first I thought maybe this is just a cool scene, but now I know that it's a big reveal and a turning point in Sorweel's arc.

So the pictures alone are great so long as Bakker doesn't give away the scene on his blog and the people who have read the arc don't comment on them. No offense to anyone who did.

No, it says Tor. You can read the beginning of it by previewing the book on amazon.com

Did Overlook even publish Neuropath? The link for the US version on Bakker's blog takes me to the Tor books.

The Orion (UK) paperback and ebook both have the italicized portions. Don't know about the hardcover or the MMP.

The Penguin prints also seem to have them? I can't tell if there is an ebook version directly from Penguin, the ebooks seem to come from Tor and Orion only.

So this seems to me like a Tor problem specifically.
