General Misc. / WV Flood
« on: June 28, 2016, 01:27:00 am »
I didn't know where to put this and thought here would be as good as any. I am really devastated about the flooding that occured this past weekend in West Virginia, my home. Where I am located, we were lucky and never got any flooding that caused any damage or harm to anyone. Southern WV is in dire straights, however. 44 counties have been affected by flooding, what meteorologists call a 1000 year flood. Towns wiped out, High Schools filled with mud and debris. 25 people have lost their life as of today, around the same amount unaccounted for.

Through all of this, I've seen what type of people live in this great state. There has been no looting, no murders and people trying to take advantage of others when their down. I see what made America great, EVERYONE I know has either donated water and canned goods or their time and labour. As sad as I am for the people of southern WV, I am filled with pride with the generosity and attitude of all the Mountaineers in this great state. We are always on the bad end of bad jokes, said to be illiterate, inbred and redneck hillbillies. I just want everyone to pay attention to the people of WV and see how we handle adversity, a lesson for the more civilised people's of the world. We are at a low point right now, but we were all raised to keep our head held high and to take care of one another. I'm proud to be a Mountaineer!

That being said, southern WV is an extremely poor area. The coal mines have been shut down over the years and there is not much else in that area as far as jobs are concerned. My Facebook is flooded with pictures of West Virginians taking tractor trailer loads of food, water and supplies to help those in their time of need. If anyone would like to help I'll leave this article with a few different ways that you could. Anything would help. Sorry for bringing this up and leaving it here, but I'd like everyone to know what we're going through right now. #MOUNTAINEERSTRONG!

Author Q&A / [TGO SPOILERS] Belief
« on: June 22, 2016, 10:19:00 pm »
I absolutely love the idea, or the fact of I should say, of Viramsata. And, we know that this is the tool Moe and Kellhus used to shape the Thousandfold Thought. Lie made truth, breath that is ground. So, essentially belief makes real. Yet, we see through the Judging Eye that there is objective morality on Earwa. Wether that is the God of Gods (i believe), the Zero-God or some other imposter makes no difference, it exists. Then, in TGO we come to find out that the 100 are separate and have set up damnation as to be unavoidable, essentially(Let there be deceit, Let there be desire). Kinda long winded but what I want to ask is wether Belief can shape the Outside? Can or have the beliefs of what Kellhus has wrought changed the "morality meter" of the 100? Because enough people believe something, can it change the effect it has on their salvation/damnation?

When Aurang takes the form of the man when he meets Esme twice in PoN, is it achieved by glamour or is it a physical form?

TGO ARC Discussion / [TGO SPOILERS] Mimara
« on: June 04, 2016, 11:19:02 pm »
Mimara, as other have said, has been coming into her own I TGO and I really enjoy it also. A place here to talk about all things Mimara. Some observations.

1. Koringhus ruminating on Mimara:
"Her every step Conditioned Ground.
She did not know this knowing, of course, which was what made it so much more remarkable...even miraculous. She bore an assurance that was not Her own- and how could it be? How could anything bottomless be owned, let alone fathomed, by a soul so infinite, so frail?"

While we could assume Kellhus conditions the ground, I think it's obvious the it's the God, as Akka was struck by the revelation that he walked with the God earlier. Mimara certainly seems to be the prophet, I wonder why the Consult chose to protect her? Could the Eye show that what they try to do is the right thing? Is assume that the same would be said of Kellhus then too. Kellhus just doesn't want the Vile to be the ones to do it, and I believe he would want to salvage as much as possible. Not reduce the population as a way to shut out the Gods.

2. I do think that Mimara is jumping to conclusions with Kellhus. Just as she did with Koringhus. After she forgives him and the Eye approves of the Zero, he reaches for the Absolute. Its why I said I don't believe the Eye is 100% reliable, as things do change.

Huh, baby was just thrust into my hands. I have more to add later. Hope to hear your thoughts.

General Misc. / What are you watching?
« on: March 17, 2016, 05:09:34 pm »
Wanted to start a thread to see what you guys are wasting away your evenings with. So,  right now, at the moment I am engrossed in two shows

1. Better Call Saul, I absolutely love it. I loved Breaking Bad, so I gave this a shot and it hasn't disappointed. If you haven't watched it, do it now. Funny, and also many of the plotlines offer the dramatic. Really good.

2. The Walking Dead, I'm actually a late-comer to the show. Wife told me I'd love it and I binged watched it last year and got caught up. Never read the comics, so I have no clue where this story is going. But,  I love it.

Shows that aren't in Season, though I watch them religiously.

1. Game of Thrones
2. Ancient Aliens
3. Deadliest Catch
4. The Curse of Oak Island

Author Q&A / Psukhe
« on: March 07, 2016, 09:31:42 pm »
OK, so again, is passion what makes the Psukhe possible. Is it the hinge on which the Water flows? I know we get Kellhus's explanation at Kyudea, but trying to figure out truth from lie in that exchange is hard to parse. I ask because if Moe did a soul flop with Cnaüir to make Meppa, it explains the "ocean of water" that he has.

ETA:also, there is debate over this and I would like it clarified,  thanks!  :)

Literature / Rec Thread
« on: January 16, 2016, 05:36:24 pm »
Here is a thread for rec's of your favorite literature. I am always looking for that next great series out there, that will grab my attention like TSA has. It doesn't have to even be fantasy per se, I am just looking for something full of intrigue, good characterization, a dark tone is preferable, and I love a great mystery where you have to put the pieces together yourself. I like good world-building and generally anything that takes me to another world filled with wonderous things. If you can help me out please do.

I will add a few recs I think everyone who enjoys fantasy should give a go.

A Land Fit For Heroes- Its easily in my Top 5 fantasy series I have ever read. Morgan writing is fluid and I burned through the books in no time at all. It has great characters, decent world-building, mystery, but what sets this apart is the darkness of this series. Some of the grimmest stuff I've ever read and imagined is in these books. If that's your cup of tea, you'll love it.

Wise Man's Fear- by Rothfuss, is a series that is yet to be finished, but will have you itching for more When your done. The magical system is very cool. Kvothe, the narrator and main character is cut from the same cloth as a Kellhus. What really caught my eye was wether or not Kvothe is reliable as a narrator. Its a great series to read if you don't mind the wait for the final installment. And, if your reading this then your used to that.

The First Law and The Shattered Sea- both by Abercrombie. Quite frankly, Abercrombie is the funniest author I've yet to read. Its dark humor, but I found myself laughing out loud reading his books. All of them are quick, easy reads with a great story as well.

There are a few to get the thread going. I've read many more and will add to the thread as others ask for specific recs. Cheers!

The White-Luck Warrior / Inrilatas-insane or a threat to Kelhuss?
« on: August 01, 2015, 09:32:01 pm »
For the brief time we meat this most intriguing man, he strike me as if he was in the know. I believe he had grasped TTT and maybe what he revealed to Kellhus, left Kellhus with only one option; chaining him and calling him crazy. I believe he knew what his dad's plans were and that they weren't necessarily for the good of the world. Just would of loved to know what exactly was going on is his mind. He was so interesting. Just wondering what other thoughts you guys might have about him. Such a truly great character, whom I believe knew a whole lot about what was really going on.

The White-Luck Warrior / Who is the Manipulator?
« on: July 26, 2015, 10:12:25 pm »
I think that anyone who has read the series, would agree that "someone" is manipulating events on Earwa. We've had many theories on the prowess of Moe, you could say the Gods, but who I claim it to be is Seswatha.

There has been several suggestions that we will find out that Seswatha HAD some alternative motive or wasn't who he was portrayed to be. I've done multiple rereads and I am in the process of one at the moment. And, I find that all signs point to Seswatha being the Master Manipulator.

First, what got this little theory of mine started, was that I found it to be weird that in The Sagas[/i,] Esme notes that Seswatha is never the described the same or he isn't described well at all. This is the very reason The Mandate gives no credence to it.  Also, is the fact of the "grasping" of Seswatha's heart. This seems eerily similar to Shae's soul trapping device described in the sample chapter.

I believe Seswatha took the Celmommas Prophecy literal and went to extreme lengths to make sure he was there at the end of the world. Akka has a dream where Celmommas confides to Seswatha the location of Ishual. I believe Seswatha sent the Dûnyain to Ishual and that they are his secret weapon. He realized that to truly defeat the Consult mankind would need a superhuman, a self-moving soul who could truly speak with the God's voice, enter Kellhus. He's the culmination of Seswatha's original plan.

Now, this takes nothing away to the theory that Moe was manipulating events of the first trilogy. In fact, during my current reread its glaringly obvious. I just say that Moe was being manipulated also, by the Dûnyain elders. To take a phrase from Lockesnow, the Dûnyain was just a Truman show. There true intent a purpose was only known to an elect few, the elders (or hell, maybe it will be revealed the Dûnyain women). So, the Dûnyain was just a tool of Seswatha to breed and create a humans that will be effective against the Consult during the 2nd Apocalypse. I believe that Magic was known to them just hidden and that they still have a huge part to play. They just won't be waiting inside of Ishual when Akka and Mimara get there. But, something will be....

Seswatha's other tool has never been a secret, The Mandate. This is how Seswatha is able to keep an eye over events and know when the time is right to set his plan into motion. And Akka is his tool. I believe why Akka has come to be a Prophet of the Past is to actually be Seswatha's hand in these events. I believe what will be waiting on Akka will be the Heron Spear, deep in The Thousand Thousand Halls.

I'm also positive that Meppa is his 3 rd tool in the events of the 2nd Apocalypse. I like to think that he is a combination of Moe's intellect and Cnaüir's passion. And that somehow he will play a crucial part in theses events.

Well, that is my theory on who is manipulating events on Earwa. Please rip it to shreds, or offer your opinions on who the manipulator could be.
