Quote
Man is spirit. But what is spirit? Spirit is the self. But what is the self? The self is a relation which relates itself to its own self, or it is that in the relation [which accounts for it] that the relation relates itself to its own self; the self is not the relation but [consists in the fact] that the relation relates itself to its own self. Man is a synthesis of the infinite and the finite, of the temporal and the eternal, of freedom and necessity, in short it is a synthesis. A synthesis is a relation between two factors. So regarded, man is not yet a self.

EDIT: Wow, can't believe that actually worked.  Are posts maybe OK now?  Maybe I'll try a real Hegel quote and see...

The Undoing looked fairly generic, possibly interesting, but on the basis of just being an HBO (proper) show, we checked it out.  First episode was fairly well done, so we'll be watching the rest.

Ha, unfortunately, the price is just a bit too rich for my blood at the moment...

We just finished up The Third Day and Lovecraft Country.

Lovecraft Country was pretty good, but rather uneven.  Third Day was interesting, but if you don't watch the 12 hour livestream in the middle, you kind of miss part of the point.

So, post-Hurricane Delta, we were out of power for almost 4 days.  So I dug out some old games I had.  We played Risk 2110 and the old (~2000) version of Cosmic Encounters.  Also, a couple version of Trivial Pursuit.  But now the kids are likely going to be glued back on some screens, haha.

HeroQuest now out for Crowfunding: https://hasbropulse.com/products/heroquest-game-system

Looks pretty cool, even if just for the nostalgia value.

Anyone else remember this old game?  Seems they are up to something soon.

Dune trailer

I heard a rumor they might not put the movie out until next year though, because people just aren't going to theaters enough for it to likely recoup what was spent on it.

Was wondering about Lovecraft Country - couldn't figure out if it was good or just a cheap horror flick. Good enough, you say?

Definitely depends on what you want out of it.  It isn't cheap horror but also isn't high drama.  Sort of a mix, which might be off-putting to some.

Raised By Wolves and Lovecraft Country.  Neither is perfect, but entertaining enough to watch.

I give up, who?
To me, it reads as if I description of Mimara.  Especially the part about having a relationship with the "unchangeable Being" (the Cubit) and that she "ministers" by what is right (the judgement, hence the Judging Eye).

Since we are sort of talking about the Judging Eye here:

Quote
In the mediator, then, this consciousness frees itself from action and enjoyment so far as they are regarded as its own. As a separate, independent extreme, it rejects the essence of its will, and casts upon the mediator or minister [priest] its own freedom of decision, and herewith the responsibility for its own action. This mediator, having a direct relationship with the unchangeable Being, ministers by giving advice on what is right.

Who does that sound like?

So why 100? Could be arbitrary, have to stop somewhere coming up with universals/foundations/First Principles, just a round number of the 100 perceived most important. Eerily reminiscent of the base human psychological states as defined by the Dunyain ( Fear Base -2 ) - looks like the nonmen made gods out of them.

Indeed, I mean, why any number?  Aesthetics?  Hard to say.  Really any number would be arbitrary, because if the "true" Universal is Infinite, there is no end to enumerating it.  So any number layered on top of that is completely arbitrary, nothing could approximate actual infinity, even infinity really.

This could also be seen as another example of the intersection or mediation of the Universal with/through the Particular (and the reverse as well).  Or, the Eternal and Temporal.  Ajokli is the Universal of deception, the behavior is the Particular instance of it.  Yet, the Particular fuels the Universal as well, feeds it.

This sort of question about how the Eternal could or would interact with the Temporal/Finite really runs though TAE, I think.
