I'll start saving then once the series is finished we can use it as a lever to make Bakker meet us as we present him with one ;)

General Misc. / Re: Disseminating Bakker - Bookmarks
« on: July 11, 2014, 12:26:36 am »
hahahaha that's totally awesome, i'm going to print some out as well. I've managed to get a few folk reading just by recommending him on another site i frequent to do with football (soccer) . Maybe half dozen folk said they would pick it up and 4 have finished the lot. One guy was a bit upset as he was waiting on GRRM as well and now has two books he's desperate to read.

But seriously those bookmarks were so awesome i had a big cheesy grin looking at it all.

Akka will come on flying chariots from Ishterbenith and save the Ordeal at Dalguish, or on the plains.

Because it is fucking psychotic to suggest splitting a book the length of a game of thrones or a feast for crows into two books.  It's either a naked money grab to bilk the handful of fans he has by forcing them to pay double or its just a naked attempt to torment the same handful of fans by withholding the climax.

All typ0s courtesy of Samsung.

If its a choice between cutting content or two books, I'd pick two every time.
If its a choice between one big book and two small ones, both with the same content, one would certainly be better.
If they would be the same and Bakker/publisher want to make more money, I honestly wouldn't be upset.

Pretty much this, although less keen on lining publishers pockets over writers.

Not sure the reply was meant to read cutting things out to make it in one volume as opposed to getting the book how you want it, then if the options are available make it one book rather than two. That was my personal reading.

I don't want any of the story lost due to trying to shoe-horn it into one book. If it is two books i'll just wait this time till both are published then read them together. I'm fine with waiting, been doing it since mid 90's anyway, last 20 years of my life i've been waiting on the next installment in a series.

General Earwa / Re: Akka's "Power Level"?
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:40:34 pm »
I think Akka's only major divine benefactor is the whore. He's a true hero.

Throwing in on the power level discussion. I think he is in 99th percentile or whatever for sorcerers on earth. At least in terms of his raw capacity, maybe not his delicacy. The metagnostics probably outclass him but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he could take one down. Just not kellhus. The greatest quya are only a little better than him. He is one of the greatest human sorcerers alive.

I think in the first book that akka says while he sometime has trouble believing it, his power has never let him down when he needed it. I think that was an unwitting portent. So far, it has proved to be true.

Akka was born talented and now Seswatha is opening up to him.

Indeed and Kellhus peers deep and sees how strong Akka is as well, a lot stronger than anyone believes especially himself. Esme later sees it as she is reading the sagas.

With the added spice of Quirri and extra experience i suspect he's significantly more deadly than he was at the end of TTT.

Is there any truth to the rumour the last words are "...and they all lived happily forever." ?

I just think some folk don't like Bakker(personally) so complain about him in groups, i've seen the same forums about Martin, how he eats too much, always trying to hawk his wares and how he must letch on the females cast in the TV series etc.

My favourite complaint is the thousand thousand halls probably not having a million rooms. I suspect this is a troll point secretly mocking the other weird shit, but you can never tell a bit like Poes Law

"Poe's law, named after its author Nathan Poe,[1] is an Internet adage reflecting the idea that without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of extremism."

Yeah little Kel is working for Kellhus as is everyone pretty much. I even half think that theo is playing charades making it appear she is more skittish than she is.  there are points in the books where little Kel thinks she is scrutinising him.

Sorry to butt in with something so trivial, but it literally just occured to me how busy Kellhus must have been since TTT. The busiest person ever , he needs his intellect just to organise his "to-do list".

I'm struggling to find someone with more to do.

I've always thought that Serwe could sense the chorae anyway, that was untill i heard the recounting of some stuff from a TUC reading. which i wont go into on this forum.

Ptsatma comments that Maitha and Kellhus are aware of her, and they collect secret knowledge as par for the course. so i thought that it was all a pantomime for Sorweel benefit, cause Kellhus was aware of what was happening. after all didn't he pick the slave that that turned out to be the catalyst for Sorweels "conversion" to Yatwer?

Weird that the Dunyains give him a slave who happens to be a complete devotee to Yatwer, then he gets shipped off somewhere. Although Serwe might be kept in the dark in the way that Maitha claims he was kept in the dark.

I might be misremembering though, i don't have a copy of WLW anymore, I ordered the one from Canada(came out first) and got it shipped to my house next day for 3 times the cost of the book lol. anyway it's fell to pieces in a way my UK ones never.

Gotta represent Earwa in every mmo I play. I love it when some of the main character names are taken, then I know there is someone else out there.

Yeah Dunyain was taken on my realm, got a monk called Kellhus just yesterday , sorta disappointed it wasn't taken. I've decided against macor'ing some Cnaiur quotes with my abilites as would probably get me banned  ;D
