General Misc. / Re: [TV Spoilers] Game of Thrones (S7)

Fucking true and I am almost sure that George will never finish the books.

Yeah, that's my feeling too.  The series really teaches you some valuable life lessons like don't expect too much, don't get emotionally invested in people not emotionally invested in you, don't figure something will be great just because it started so, have more patience than you know what to do with, and don't think you are entitled to anything.  That applies to the narrative and the actual books themselves.

This is pretty much Life Lessons 101.

Maybe the myrrh thing is simply to reinforce the skinspy's status as someone who can afford said spice to make themselves smell better (i.e., they're part of the upper classes).  This would make them less likely to be questioned if they're ever caught in potentially compromising situations.

Maybe shae is around still, but, what, he made a magical hologram that nobody could see? Gosh, maybe he blinded himself and learned the psuke as well :P .

Nah, Shauriatas hijacked Seswatha's mummification ritual, so it's actually him floating around through all the Mandati and Swayali, not Seswatha.  He's been there the whole time!  Fight me!

This is a general statement of my feelings on this issue, and not directed at any one single person.  Just saying.

I feel like the argument for relaxing IP laws is a fundamentally entitled point of view.  Simply because something is digital and therefore more easily duplicated has no bearing on how much effort the creator put into whatever the product happens to be.  Because it's easier to copy a Kindle file than it is to transcribe a printed novel, it somehow makes it okay to appropriate that work without paying for it?  Or any other number of so-called reasons for what amounts to stealing?  Bullshit rationalizations is all I hear, ever.

Try spending an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year, a decade creating something, something you made with your own blood, sweat and tears, time, talent and sacrifices, only to have some jackass fucking get it for free.  See where you fall on this argument after that.

If you didn't create it, it's not fucking yours, and if you want it, pay for it.

Rant over.

Fantastic writing as Prophetess Mimara she walks through the Ordealmen. What a great passage, holy shit. Also a nice quote regarding how TAE has been about Mimara coming to terms with her Prophetess status and a likely glimpse of her future in TNG:

This.  I was reminded of a scene from TWP, wherein Kellhus was having a sermon about Witness.  The one where he was asking the soldier about the little dead girl they saw on the road.  This is a great inversion of that, wherein 'the girl' Mimara is Witnessing all these Damned Men with the Judging Eye, all worse than dead...  dunno, I make weird connections sometimes.

Just to add fuel to the Dunsult/Shauriatas gestalt idea:  Cants of Compulsion could basically rewire the Dunyain to 'agree' to house Shauriatas' soul (or whatever), creating the aforementioned construct.  I think the Larvals were more shorn of will than passion.  While the Dunyain certainly have little to no passion, they definitely have monstrous wills.  Without Compulsions, I don't see how this setup would work.

Is it the Sun Lance, though?

Quote
Aurang struck the ensorcelled Mirinotic Gates with the Sun Lance (sister of the Heron Spear) before it exploded.

My bold.  Before what exploded?  The Gate or the Sun Lance?  Could be read either way, but seems to imply the Sun Lance exploded.

I used to like watching scary movies late into the night.  I don't anymore since the thing-that-stands-behind-me started whispering the endings in my ear.

Or it is the Heron Spear, but the Dunsult tweaked it/got it working again.  The result of their fiddling made the beam a different color.

The mutilated mention that Shae was the only Consult member that stood against them, and that's why they killed him. Why would Shae refuse when all the other consult joined?

Shaeonanra actually answers this question himself in The False Sun.  The reason he wanted Titirga dead was because, if he had come over to the Consult, Shae would not be top dog anymore.  Titirga, being the badass he was, would have usurped Shae in a heartbeat.  Shae's ego wouldn't have that, so down Titirga went.  History repeating itself with the Dunyain.  You know, that old chestnut.

Sorry, back to Kosoter.  I would have been satisfied with his storyline, were it not for that RSB comment about not being done.  Unless it's a reverse to the 'Cnaiur's storyline is done' way back ago.  Ha!  I don't know if I have any other thoughts on this particular subject.

Major derail, but am I the only one who automatically thinks The Next Generation (a la Star Trek) when I see TNG?  I know it means 'The No-God' but, still...  showing my age, I guess.
