Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello

Hello all, long- time lurker, first-time poster (postee?). I must admit the offer of The Great Ordeal is what brought me out.
I started my third re-read when I found the second apocalypse podcasts, and have been slogging along behind the forum.  I'll try to find more time to add to those threads as I finish up WLW, and retread the new chapters!

WELCOME CONDYOKE!

Greetings fine wise men of the SA. I've been covertly mining this forum for years for thoughts on Bakker's works and have finally decided to join the strip mining of smarter posters than me for insight.

WELCOME JRC!  I TOO ENJOY REGURGITATING THE WISDOM OF OTHER READERS!  I THINK EVERY GOOD INSIGHT GOT GOTTEN TO LONG AGO, SO I'M LEFT WITH SPECULATING ABOUT HOW THE INCHOROI MUST BE REALLY MAD ABOUT THE LAST MECHANIC TO WORK ON THEIR VEHICLE :)

Yes, I'm part of the unwashed Srancesque horde come due to the Advanced Reader Copy. But I do hope to engage in proper discussion eventually, though given the depth and breadth of what I've seen round here I think it'll take time before I can join in!

In truth, I'd feel rather guilty winning this competition, given that I'm only partway through my first re-read of the series and there's much more ravenous fans them me around. Ok, not that guilty, still wanna win this thing. Never had an ARC, it's all prestigious and shit. Now to think up questions...

First picked up the Darkness that Comes Before 3 years ago and tore through the series. I think I'd seen it heartily recommended (and hotly debated) over at Westeros.org, which I sometimes lurk around. No doubt there were many, many things I missed entirely on my first read through given all the layers and my lack of philosophical knowledge, but I've enjoyed the series greatly. Oddly enough I didn't realize this place existed, never did the research I suppose. I'll be getting reading through these threads soon, though recommendations on where to start would be nice!

WELCOME ONRACK! I KNOW WHAT THAT PIC REFERS TO!

Introduce Yourself / Re: Looking forward to the next two books!

I love these books and have turned several of my friends on to the series.  That being said, I have read a ton of books since the White Luck Warrior and would really appreciate it if anyone can point me in the direction of some synopsis or refresher for the last book or two to get ready to jump right into the new book next month.  I looked around a little bit and didn't see what I was looking for.  Any help is seriously, greatly appreciated!

WELCOME! I HOPE THAT THE FACT THAT YOUR LESIONS ARE CARIOUS IS OK!

Hello,

I just picked up the first book of the SA series about two months ago, and I just finished the 5 currently published books.

I discovered the series through a mention on the Westeros.org forums, and also by googling for fantasy maps. (I'm a real map nerd) What piqued my interest was a mention of the there being sci-fi elements of the story, which made it sound interesting... I'm primarily a Sci-Fi reader that does not care much for fantasy in general. I read LOTR before the film trilogy, and then didn't really read much until I picked up GRRM's ASOIAF shortly before the show started on HBO. The world-building aspects of fantasy has to be VERY good, otherwise I just won't bother, and it was pointed out that Bakker's SA was of similar quality as GRRM's work. And I agree, although Bakker has different strengths (and weaknesses) compared to GRRM.

But I'm a big fan now, and I'm about to start my re-read of the series. I have this nasty habit of skimming boring parts (certain POVs) when reading the first time, so I know I'll pick up a LOT more the 2nd time around.

Anyway, I hope to contribute to this forum more in the near future, but I may not have much to write until I finish my re-read (and TGO).

HI TITAN! I TOO WANTED A DETAILED SRANC DESCRIPTION EARLY ON.  IT WAS NEARLY A DEAL BREAKER FOR ME IN THE FIRST READ.  WELCOME!

Hi all,

I've lurked here a long time & finally decide to join in. I'm in the UK; after a wait of five years (was it really that long?) I purchased TGO from Amazon in the US.

It didn't disappoint! Phew! Now it's another year to go to The Unholy Consult. Argh.

WELCOME VIRIDIUS! I FEEL LIKE I KNOW WHO THAT IS IN THE PIC BY UR NAME, BUT I CANNOT REMEMBER...

New to the forum but too big a fan of the series not to partake.

I thought I was clever at 3am coming up with the username 'Ogo' ('the logos is without beginning or end') but in the harsh light of day I feel slightly less so!

NICE!  KELLHUS WOULD HAVE BEEN MEDITATING FOR A LOT LONGER IF HE HAD TO DO

Hello. I read the first book in 2004, and have never read any of them twice. I barely have any clue what is happening each time a book is released.

WELCOME CVKVD!  I THINK BAKKER WILL BE PROVIDE US LOTS OF MATERIAL FOR SPECULATION FOR YEARS AND YEARS TO COME! I'M GOING TO REDUCE MY CHOLESTEROL INTAKE TO MAKE SURE I GET TO READ MORE!

I didn't see this intro forum, and like a savage I just started right in posting and measuring tongues or whatever it is we're doing around here.

I did mention in another thread that I got here by way of the podcast, which I found by way of the Facebook page, which I found by way of the Grimdark FB page, which I found by way of the Grimdark Magazine... Which I found because I heard about Scott's "The Knife of Many Hands" story. So I guess it all comes back around.

I recall where but not when I discovered TDTCB: it was a Border's bookstore outside Pittsburgh. I and some of my fellow teacher friends had gotten away from kids and campus to spend a quiet afternoon. I happened to pick up TDTCB and after sitting there reading the prologue, I was totally hooked. Had to buy it and read it. It had to be sometime between 2004-2006, I guess.

HI PARSH!  WELCOME FELLOW TEACHER!

I was here before under a different username but didn't really post much but I had to make a new account cuz I have a new phone without my old password, the Great Ordeal was just too great not to talk about somewhere, and the Westeros threads are full of some extremely uptight ballbags who take themselves way too seriously. Hopefully I can contribute more now than under my old name  ;D

NICE NAME! DSMB WELCOME!  POOR PROYAS

Hey guys!

Ive just finished my third read through of TDTCB-TWLW, and a  first read through (with more to follow, im sure) of TGO.

Ive been lurking on the forums for a few months now as a guest, simply because I haven't had a whole lot to contribute what with TWLW being so old, but now the TGO has dropped , I thought now was as good a time as ever to dive right in!

Never been involved in a book forum before, so if I breach Jnan at all, I do apologize  ;)

AIN'T IT GREAT FOR REREADS?  WELCOME CHARVUU!  WHAT DOES CHARVUU MEAN?

Hullo there,

After a long time lurking, after having read all the PON and TAS released so far, I'd like to join in the conversation.

Hi Hiro!  I'm going to have to go back and reread SRD.  I felt so divided reading--i'm not sure exactly what made me love and hate book one, but it really provoked a strong response in my soul

WELCOME

Hi! I've been a frequent guest for quite awhile, and I thought it would be a good time to join, what with TUC on its way in a few months.

I stumbled on PoN maybe around the time TTT was published (2006). Looking back, I was intrigued by the multiple POVs and the general world-building. Now, six books into the Slog, the damn thing is so damn BIG.

Thanks for establishing this forum. I was never on Westeros or 3Cs, and this whole thing is new to me. But I think I'm up to speed on etiquette.

Cheers!

Hi Breadfisher King!  Cool name!  Cheers to you too!
