The Unholy Consult / Re: [TUC Spoilers] Inchoroi in future books
« on: August 08, 2017, 10:42:33 pm »
The way I see it, the Progenitors are not sitting somewhere far away, rather, the Ark and its inhabitants are what became of them, or at least some of them.

So does shutting the Outside off in Earwa somehow shut it off for the entire universe? Why is that? I do think it's reasonable to assume that because there is sorcery on Earwa that the border between it and the Outside are more porous, therefore making salvation more likely somehow.

I was kinda disappointed the Progenitors are pretty much ultra-hedonistic Eldar who got wind of Slaanesh before the shit hit the fan and made the Inchoroi as essentially Dark Eldar shock troops
Nah. If anything, they are more like the Necrons (before the sissification), trying to shut the world from the Warp. Anyway, 40k comparisons suck.

It's funny, I always hated the Kelmomas chapters in previous books. Thought he was insufferable and I had to slog through the chapters, but in the end I actually felt sympathy for him, poor little murderous guy screaming for his mom as uncaring monsters stuff him into the black Carapace. Really made me appreciate him, in hindsight.
As for the worst fate, I don't know. Maybe Serwë, except at least she got to be happy being Kellhus' wife for a bit after all the rape and abuse, before being stabbed and subsequently burning in Hell forever.

That's really cool. In that sense they are the anti-Scylvendi.

The Unholy Consult / Re: Merchandising the Second Apocalypse

It's a pity that he doesn't do more about promotion or merchandise. With a little effort (and I think this is a matter more of his agents than of Bakker himself), the sales will increase a lot. Nowadays a solid social media presence is fundamental.
Not having that in mind it is a problem.
The only thing you need is a facebook profile and maybe a twitter that announces new books, previews and blog essays. You don't have to ask your readers to donate to your patreon or like and subscribe like some youtubing douchebag, you just have to announce things.

Also, a SA RTS would be awesome. Rushing to tier 3 for those Soggomant-armored Inversi my man.

Thanks. I have two burning questions.
1. What is the (true) fate of Shae, or alternatively, any hints as to where I might get a hint about his fate?
2. What did Kellhus mean when he said to Proyas that at one point the Inchoroi must win?

Well, one thing that makes no sense for me is that Kellhus, Cnaiur, even Serwa and Kosoter (if the JE is right) evade damnation becoming ciphrangs or hungers of the Outside or whatever the fuck they become. Why Shae and the senior members of the Consult cannot, they have (at least) the same will of power and resilience than the others to Ascend? Maybe they were convinced of their damnation because they were cheated by the visions of the IF.
I think it's because you need a subconscious hunger to become a Ciphrang. The God hates premeditation. That's why Shae was so damned, because he was very smart and aware being one of the most cunning sorcerers of all time.

Theliopa is actually a pretty cool character. I kind of identified with many of her quirks...

Yes, I'm the one who asked those questions but I'm still having trouble understanding the answers  8)
I just wanted to keep those things in one place.

Unfortunately, I can't really offer any better explanation than the ones already provided. I do have some ideas, but if anything, they might be even harder to grasp. I also worry about impracticality of such pondering. Perhaps it's easier to just wait for the next series and more clarification from Bakker. It would at least have concrete narrative significance then.
Go ahead if you feel like it, sometimes added complexity brings more clarity.

I firmly disagree. Bakker is worried about the exploitation of human crash space in this new age, but it's not a moral lecture about the good of traditional humanity either. Keep in mind he said that he is a discovery writer now. The ending of TNG is probably uncertain to the author himself!

We'll have to agree to disagree then. Ithink he indeed knows the ending, just not how to get there. I cant see how he can think 3-4 books about the horrror of the end of the world would be good reading for anyone. Huh, maybe it would. I know id read it, pirely because he's my favorite writer and i love his prose and all. I just think we're in for a lesson. One of us will be right. No biggie either way. Its his story, we have zero influence.
You root for the Gods, I root for the No-God, but we may both be surprised, I think that alone is worth it.

An answer from the recent reddit AMA is relevant here:

3) The Ark isn't invisible, only its meaning. That's the disfiguring absence.
Yes, I'm the one who asked those questions but I'm still having trouble understanding the answers  8)

Trust me the Inchoroi will not win. You want quotes, i aint got em. I just think this is the lesson Bakker wants to teaxh us. Bakker is worried that the world is headed towards AI and all that. The pursuit of immortality, so TSA is a cautionary tale. TNG will be the lesson. That humanity is capable of amazing things on its own.
I firmly disagree. Bakker is worried about the exploitation of human crash space in this new age, but it's not a moral lecture about the good of traditional humanity either. Keep in mind he said that he is a discovery writer now. The ending of TNG is probably uncertain to the author himself!

The Gods are beings that see all of time at the same moment.  Think of them like viewers of a tv series, who can fast forward or rewind at will.  They can 'write' the WLW and similar interventions into the flow of history flawlessly.  (No Mark on the earthquake, etc.)

The No-God is the being that ends time.  He is a virus that eats away at the inside/outside connection.  Static on the line.  No amount of flipping through channels can ever catch sight of him, because he is the off button.

When the No-God triumphs, the Gods are blind.  One day the Gods will be blind to the No-God, and therefore they ALREADY ARE.  They are atemporal beings.  'Spoiled', if you will.

So for chumps like mortals, who view the series one episode at a time...this is super worrying.  Imagine you are starting to read TDTCB, and you hear a bunch of readers who have already seen the end talking about how Kellhus took down Conphas.  That is hugely worrying to you as a Leweth fan, because it necessarily means that Kellhus doesn't marry Leweth and live with him forever.

Similarly, if Momas isn't earthquaking the No-God it means that the No-God will one day blind him.  That means that Kellhus isn't going to succeed in stopping it from being created, because if he was going to do that it would never blind Momas, which means Momas could see it now/in the past, and earthquake it.
I get that the Gods are a-temporal but the No-God stands outside eternity etc., but why does the mere existence of the Ark presuppose system resumption - and success? The only that this can make sense is if the Ark was destined to be successful since its inception.
Also, Bakker's reply seems to indicate that what Kellhus is saying is not that the Inchoroi literally must win.

Some of you guys going to Zaudunyanicon have to get Bakker drunk and make him answer this.

673
Okay I still don't get it. I get that Momas casts a lvl 100 Earthquake on Momemn because he is blind to the Ark, but why does the existence of the Ark explicitly mean eventual Inchoroi victory?
were the Gods blind to Nau-Cayuti?
Further to this, what do Nau-Cayuti and Kelmomas have in common that makes them both suitable Subjects for the Carapace? Is it really as simple/boring as sharing Anasurimbor blood? Did Nau-Cayuti have a dead twin? Is there some significance to having a living and a dead soul falling endlessly through a single body (almost an inverse Shauriatas)? Does that form its own circuit of watcher and watched, a loop closed to the Outside?
Bakker explained it in the AMA. It's not the blood specifically, but the brain structure.

The sword, I know it's named but can't recall it, that Serwa takes after Mishoa gets eaten by Skuthula.
Isiramulis!
