Atrocity Tales / Re: The inverse fire.

LOVE THIS THREAD!!!  Going to have to go along with the idea that the IF is some kind of 'compulsion machine.'  Perhaps the inchoroi at some point long long ago realized that their quest would be unfinished unless they possessed absolute devotion to their cause?  They create the IF to propagandize themselves and now no one is the wiser.

It will be neat if we see the judging eye and the IF agreeing, but if they disagree, which one is the standard to measure the other one as false?  Is there a third thing?  Kellhus gonna look in dat thing and get the ITCH.  He was already so vulnerable to possessed Esmi...

As far as all those corpses go, this from TJE, 'What Has Come Before...'

"They relearned the principles of the material, the Tekne.  They mastered the manipulations of the flesh.  And after generations of study and searching, after filling the pits of Min-Uroikas with innumerable corpses, they realized the most catastrophic of the Inchoroi's untold depravities: Mog-Pharau, the No-God."

@ curethan - really like this idea of digging too deep.  The end of TTT took us to what Cnaiur considered "too deep" so maybe TUC will take us deeper still.  Thank you for pointing out the dragon, I didn't notice it being out of place.  This is not Gringots!  Does this add a third category to the bakkerverse?  Outside, inside, *underneath*

@ wiltshire - the "death came swirling down" made me think of Homer, "dark came swirling down":
http://home.ubalt.edu/NTYGFIT/ai_01_pursuing_fame/ai_01_tell/iliad06.htm
gods as avatars has a homery ring to it

WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE TUSK ROOM BEING AN ANTI-TOPOI.  That sounds strange and wonderful and oddly fiiting since that tusk thingy is an inchoroi artifact!  Is it just a thing or is it still fulfilling a purpose for the Consult, like listening to conversations or messing with reality or i don't know what

where the hell do you get a tusk that big?  another abomination will see crawl out of the ark at the last battle?

@ lockesnow - the facts surrounding the fall of the ark really fascinate me.  Why did it crash on *this* world when it was so successful elsewhere?  Did a god strike it from the sky?  I can't think of any other entity powerful enough to harm the ark to the point that it becomes a dead womb and only 1/100 survive.

about the entire race trapped in hell--this is what I'm wondering the ultimate motivation for Aurang and Aurax is--they have some kind of absolute loyalty to their species and the advent of the NG will eventually let them reclaim Inchoroi souls form hell?  Resonates with what the synthese says at the end of TTT about not even the dead escape the benjuka plate.  Possible motivation for dunyain?  Reclaim dunyain of old?

topoi like pit--esmi's harlot womb like a topoi--NG special effect on wombs--WHAT DOES IT MEAN???

@ madness - i gotta agree with you that the inchoroi want earwa because it is the most connected to the outside--brilliant!

I like the idea of Atrithau being the oldest topois--I don't suppose it's soil is exported to help form chorae?  And btw, whatever chorae the great ordeal bring with them, they could be dwarfed by the number the consult have, right?  Unless the consult lost the art…

that bit about the place where sejenus ascended, was this guy beaten to death with a guilded thigh bone AND THEN ascended?  that sejenus life-narrative is hidden from us, mostly, makes me wonder if we're going to get revelations about him in TUC

@ locke - woo!  that's a neat idear about a weaponized topoi!  sure am glad i started hanging out here, i didn't know how many speculations i didn't know

about cnaiur feeling the "great inversion of ground" -- what if the mansion Old Moe was using was also topoi?  what end what that serve and what effect would it have on the captive skinspies and kellhus?

@ sciborg2 -- you got me thinking--is there an angelic counterpart to the daimos?  would mimara be connected to that?

@ auriga -- your quote reminded me--i'm really bothered that we don't know what happened between the event of akka being carried away by demon and akka waking up in a hut?  HIDING SOMETHING BIG IN THERE

I was wondering about this.  What if they are missing a part?  Like Seswatha managed to make off with an important piece so they can't rebuild the orginal and they haven't been able to find a substitute.  What is it?  Well, if it's Nau-Cayuti in the NG, maybe Seswatha snatched the heart!  Then he had his own bound up with it, mumified, and used in the grasping.  The memories of NC lie dormant until just the right time.  That time is approaching because Kellhus is bringing the heart north.

I'm starting to think that the union of human and nonman is not actually achieved by sexual activity at all.  It's actually a product of huffing dead nonman ash.

I like this idea.  Mimara has twins!  One is dead like what happened with old Celmomas?  Sranc hide makes a great material for a double stroller.

Sorweel and Mimara have a chance at something approximating normal ;).

Only if approximately normal, in Bakkerverse, is an orphaned son getting with his father's killer's daughter who happens to be the most powerful Witch in Earwa, consummating their marriage in an alien species prison.

Seems normal to me.

Hahaha--their kid will be named Billy, be good at math but not spelling, like baseball but be terrible at it, shy around girls because he makes their wombs into graves and stalks the earth making no friends since all are terrorized by his presence on the horizon.  Does not like broccoli.

Lol this is how a lot of the mysteries are being explained here.

I feel like everything ends up like "He knows they know he knows, but they don't know that he knows they know he knows about them knowing"

A feint wrapped in a mystery shrouded by an enigma.

Lol, Kellhus and Aurax both meet in the end holding a rubber chicken each.  "But I thought, you thought, I..." they both say at the same time.  Then they laugh, hug, and make out.

I loved Untitled!  You channeled Bakker wonderfully!  Love the back and forth seswatha and present.  This is not a small matter for me, you nailed all the names of things and people.  That's one of the reasons I like Bakker's stuff, his names have fantasy resonance and you did it awesomely as well.  I don't think I could ever do that.  There I am trying to write fanfic like you and I'm stuck because all I can think of for my Mandati is Bluurglyp, Shsmoortvlunt, or Traalwoofdinklabloi.  Seriously, that's great what you did.

My only complaint is: IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH!!!  Would love to have read more.

Oooohhhh, could you have Aurang show up and he talks with the skinspy and you reveal that it's one of the same skinspies that will later be Sarcellus?  Could you have a guy hanging around in the backdrop as a possible spy for the dunyain?  I guess Aurang synthese can't be there though, cause of the anarcanity.  Somehow I imagined that the mandati in atrithau might be pale--like it's so hard to traverse the distance from mandate hq to atrithau, that really the mission is it's own little school?  But that wouldn't be right, they have no mumified turd-heart to grasp.   :(

So, I guess I wouldn't change anything except maybe make it longer--have the POV follow the skinspies around as they murder the mandati 1,2,3.  One schoolman battling right at the border of anarcane ground, one battling back at the lonely tower against skinspies with chorae.  Bashrag and sranc are there too, but that's unsurprising because that's what happens every saturday night.  Maybe the skinspy rips out the mandati's heart and has an eye in it and he eats it but dies choking.  More memory stuff about Seswatha's betrayal!

Oooohhh, have a part where one of the mandati think they are close to uncovering an ancient secret--then they get way way way down in an old hole and they find...THE HERON SPEAR!  Lol, their guide is a skin spy and has lured them into a den of skin spies.  Schoolman does what any terrified sorcerer without magic would do, turns the heron spear on his enemies.  Lol, it's a fake.  They are all murdered and eaten but in reverse order.  Dying schoolman get a cool, sort of redeeming super secret mysterious memory from Seswatha as they die.  Or maybe Seswatha blocks out the suffering by running reels of hot sex which is weird because they are literally getting sex just then but its the bad kind.  Skinspies open a deli the next day, serve mandati as 'ham' to Atrithauians, each other.

I liked your story a lot--all that rambliness is a measure of how much!  You got my Earwa brain going!  Looking forward to reading your other ones too!

EDIT: breaking up the text

The White-Luck Warrior / Re: Moenghus the Elder's (Other) Children
« on: February 11, 2014, 11:01:38 pm »
I can resist throwing in my crackpot too: Old Moe has tons of kids walking around dominating circumstance.   ;D  Six kids only?  Lies.  Drowned?  LIES.  Only 2 women can bear little dunyain swimmers?  LIES LIES LIES!!!  Old Moe got that psukhe and then let out the rumor that it requires passion.  Kellhus gets it wrong, believes the cover his dad has worked so hard to erect, it would have to be elaborate to deceive a son of Ishual!  Esmi is not special, Moe's just got Dunyain/Cishaurim working around the clock to magically manipulate her womb so that Kellhus gets just the kids Moe wants him to have and no others.

I can't think of any narrative reasons why Bakker would hide so many Moe-children, I've just fallen into the habit of mistrusting all them character.   :-[

Moe's kids: Meppa, Fanayal, Mimara, Sorweel, Ninjanjin and Sil.

THE TWIST: Moe is not Kellhus' dad.  Kellhus was born of a virgin.
