SmilerLoki any chance you can DM me a link to the Second Apocalypse Discord channel? I've heard there is a fairly active one, but I can't seem to find a link anywhere.

Hold up, did this entry exist in the published books? I can't find it in any of my Kindle copies.
That seems like something that could be updated. I certainly would like to know more about this considering the implications of potential Nonman/Human mixing going on.

Is the Discord server still active? I'd like to join if it is.

News/Announcements / Any news or updates from Bakker?
« on: February 02, 2023, 12:20:14 am »
Has there been any news or updates regarding Bakker or the series? The latest post was an update in June 2022 from his brother.
I've been revisiting the series again recently and I'm back down the rabbit hole.

Is there a way to get in contact with the man? I know he was good about responding to comments on his blog, but that hasn't seen an update in three years. I've tried the email on the blog, but no luck so far. Not that I'm owed a response, but I'd love to know if the series has anything planned to look forward to in the coming future.

The Great Ordeal / Re: [TGO SPOILERS] Great Quotes from TGO!
« on: July 20, 2016, 01:36:04 pm »
I can't recall the exact quote off the top of my head, but it was from a Proyas POV. It's after Kellhus tells Proyas Akka is the true prophet. Proyas recalls a memory of climbing trees, particularly of one instance where he falls.

Akka says something like this, "Then take the hand the Gods have placed before you." after telling him to take his hand mere moments before. As if he is an instrument of the Gods he has questioned and doubted over his entire life.

Something about it just made me appreciate Akka even more. It helped drive home what Kellhus told Proyas about Akka.

I haven't read through all of Locke's post just yet, but I have to disagree and offer some quick counter points as I have daydreamed and plotted about a visual representation of PoN.

The fragmentation Locke speaks of is more so because he is leaving out significant scenes, and adding emphasis to small scenes that shouldn't be given as much credit.  For instance, Kellhus' opening scene in the wilderness.  Although not immensely necessary and could be done via montage, you skip over the entire Leweth scene.  I'm sorry, but Kellhus and Leweth cannot be done in 45 seconds nor should it.  The scene is incredibly fundamental to the character and the story as a whole. And lets not forget you have a perfect cliffhanger ending at the end of TDTCB.  The end of the book is NOT the meet and greet with the Emperor, the end of the book is Achamian finding out the Consult are alive and infiltrated House Ikurei!! On top of that he ignores Esmi at the end too.  I think that makes for a great season ending episode...Walks past Esmi, not acknowledging her, pan way out and show the Holy War marching to war.

As for an example of adding unnecessary emphasis to scenes that don't require them.  Achamian in Carythusal.  This is a scene that could be brushed aside in a very brief amount of time because it's not important.  What is important about the scene is it sets up Achamian to be summoned back home so we can get a glimpse inside the school and of how Achamian is already doubting his own conviction.  It also gives an opportunity to learn about the Chorae, which is absolutely necessary, and to see our hidden, overarching villain later on albeit only very very briefly.

I will say that it would be difficult hopping around from character to character when they are so spaced at the beginning, but that is the point.  TDTCB is all about the beginnings of something monumental.  It is the coming together of these characters and somehow representing that visually would be necessary, but it's entirely possible.

PoN is setup quite well for episodic viewing and seasons.  I think each book has a significant role or theme -
TDTCB = the coming together - a beginning of great things - an enemy revealed
TWP = The march - and the beginning of the transformation of Kellhus to Aspect-Emperor/God
TTT = the culmination of things - the end of the march - ascension of Kellhus to Godhood and Akka renouncing him

Just my two cents so far, hopefully it doesn't sound too critical.

Dear Lord these are amazing! I've been hoping for someone skilled at artwork to create some of these moments.

Seriously, the Gnosis image is EXACTLY as I pictured Akka in the mountains when he unleashes a Bar of Heaven!

Love the Moenghus image too! I picture him a bit older and more wrinkled, but other than that spot on to my imagination!  Is it alright if I use this image for an avatar?  My PS3 network name is Moenghus and I would love to use this in the future.

Any chance of requesting images too?  I'd love to see a scene from one of Kellhus' Pragma flashbacks, or Akka escaping from the Scarlet Spires! Oh, and how about one of Incariol or Mekeretrig? So cool!  Please, keep'em coming!

News/Announcements / Re: TSA T-Shirt Contest

The Desert Wolf has finally made his way back to the forums too.  It took me much longer than I'd care to admit, but life always gets in the way of pursuing my passion for the Second Apocalypse.

I'd be interested in a shirt or sweater too.

I finally made the jump to the new board, and am not disappointed! I had no idea that Bakker read an excerpt so this was like stumbling on a gold mine.  I have to say, I'm jealous about getting the opportunity to meet and talk with Bakker.  One of these days, I hope to have the opportunity to meet him and pick his brain a bit.

Now, if only Bakker would finish the TUC so we can read the damn thing!

Off topic question, do most of you regular board users follow Bakker's blog?
