I always love the of irony of the idea that Akka's fight with Wuteat led the dragon to return to golgotterath, where it passed over a random castle mountain that it burned to the ground before went on its way to Golgotterath.

One of the chapter headers from the beginning goes something like "like a hunter in thicket, the act of searching extinguishing your chance to find prey".

Ha ha ha. I always liked that idea too.

Hmm. Moe was one of the weaker Chishaurim, but he had great ability with scrying, iirc. Perhaps transferring his soul to another body is some aspect of scrying and the amnesia is a result of the trauma of the transfer.

Oh man, you've been gone for some time, haven't you? :P. Well I'll just let you know now, before you get confused: There is a whole congregate of people who now believe Moenghus is the All-Thing, master manipulator of all events, the true master of TTT and all circumstance. He-who-comes-before-all, a perfect self-moving soul with god-like meta-psukhe powers.

I am not one of those people.

But, for those that are, and believe he had limitless powers in the psukhe, all things are trivial to the point of absurdity. A soul transfer would be well within the cosmic power of such an individual. ;)

I'd say a soul tranfer type of ordeal using the might of all the primaries, or some other such great effort, might be possible though.

Ha ha ha. No, I did not realize that was a thing. Good to know. I'm willing to speculate, but I consider myself a nonbeliever in Moenghus Primacy.

I've never been particularly fond of the Meppa=Cnaüir connection, yet I'm not a fan of Moe just totally messed up and got killed either.

Meppa was certainly "made" by the events that ended the Cishaurim.  It could be that Meppa was a Primary that was held back (for some reason, maybe by Moe) and perhaps underwent a "soul-transfer" of sorts.  Maybe from Moe, maybe from some other Primary.

Do we actually see Meppa's arms to know whether they are scarred or not?

There is of course the possibility that Moe didn't transfer into Cnaüir's body, but rather, somehow used him to transfer to another person.

AFAIK, there is never anything said about Meppa's arms. I like the idea of it transferring to another body also.

Right, but if Meppa had arms cover in swazond it would be pointed out. Likewise, if he were 60 or 70 years old (which Cnaiur and Moe are) it would describe him as being old. I get the feeling he is probably 40. An unremarkable age. Does anyone know if there's a description of his age?

If in fact WLW does kill Kellhus, I doub tit will be before Kellhus accomplishes whatever it is he wants to accomplish. There is no way for WLW and AE to be in the same space until after the Ordeal is defeated/succeeds, and Kellhus returns to give word to his Empire.

Why not? The WLW can travel to Golgotterath. It would be the easiest journey ever considering how he just "lucks" in to everything. Seriously. I don't expect him to hang around the Three Seas until Kellhus gets back.

Yeah, the most probable culprit is Kellhus himself.  If the Consult couldn't find it in 2000 years, I have doubts they'd find it in 20.

Why he would have destroyed it is a whole different issue.  To deny Akka questioning the ones left there?  Then why let Akka find the map?  Then again, it could be something deeper, like Kellhus setting up what Akka will find.  Could all be drawing out what Seswatha is guiding Akka towards...

I agree. And if they found the map in the coffers, why read it and then leave it there for someone else.

I mentioned this in another thread. I suspect that through the probability trance, Kellhus surmised that the Dunyain would be exposed to the outside world during the SA. Dunyain, in order to master circumstance, would learn magic. They would then embrace the Consult to prevent their damnation (the precise reason Kellhus had to stop his father at the end of TTT). I think it was a risk he wasn't willing to take.

Thread necro, and this is probably directly contradicted by a passage in an earlier book but....maybe Ishual is just like that?

It's a 2,000+ year old castle. Given their rules about staying in one place and their (presumably) small population pool, it seems unlikely the Dûnyain would have the resources and expertise to maintain such a large structure. Especially if they destroyed any magic runes or such that might have been propping it up. Maybe they just live around and below the ruin.

Ha! That's a good point. But I don't feel like that's the case. Kellhus turns to look at Ishual as he is leaving, but I don't remember if there was a description.

I think Kellhus destroyed it (probably all by himself). I think anything else would be too coincidental to be good writing on Scott's part.

The White-Luck Warrior / Dreams
« on: March 01, 2016, 03:52:07 pm »
If this has been brought up before, I apologize. I've been gearing up for the release of the GO and rereading (and re-listening) to all the books. I saw in another thread, and I'm sorry I don't remember who originally said it, that maybe Seswatha is censoring the dreams the Mandate have. I think this seems really likely. Akka, having been away from the "shriveled pouch of Seswatha's heart" for twenty years, is having different dreams than the rest of the Mandate. I think having time/distance/direction between himself and Atyersus has broken censoring aspect of whatever magic fuels the dreams. Perhaps this is also why he has dreams about Nau-Cayuti also. With that extra space comes the ability to dream as people who were dear to Seswatha. I'm not speculating that NC was Seswatha's kid (though it's possible) only that they were close enough that there was an attachment.

Also, how does Kellhus experience the dreams or does he. He never grasped the heart. He did some sort of meditation thing with Akka during the Holy War. Does this prevent him from having the dreams? If not, I wonder how a Dunyain would experience them.

Lol - Blackstone.

The intervening years have driven many of us towards unthinkable speculation ;).

Ha ha. I find myself straying along lines of bizarre speculation as well.

Akka finds, in a courtyard, Seswatha's heart. Grasping it again he has further revelations about the past. Revelations that lead him to the metagnosis and the Great Ordeal.

I still feel like Seswatha's Heart is at Attrempus, in fact, it may well be Seswatha's "grave."  Note though, that I don't think Seswatha is actually dead, take the name "Tower of Respite" and this definition of respite "grant a delay or extension of time to; reprieve from death or execution."

Indeed, why make the Tower if not to use it?  The Mandate don't any more.  Why?  Because it's function is not yet needed.  Not until the SA actually begins.

Why wouldn't his heart be at Atyersus? I don't think I read anything to make me think it's not still in the Mandate stronghold.

Does the metagnosis have a different mark? I don't think it does.

If it was Kellhus, then any evidence left behind would have to have been planted. So even if they do find some evidence for this or that explanation, it could still be them walking some convoluted conditioned path.

Agreed.

I don't think the metagnosis would leave a different mark.

I think the only logical explanation here is that Kellhus destroyed Ishual. Had the Consult found the map, I suspect they wouldn't have just left it there. Like: "Here's the map we've been looking for. Hmm. I now where that is. Let's just leave this map here for the next guy that might need it."

My question is why would Kellhus do this. I would guess that the probability trance led him to believe more Dunyain would find their way into the world and he'd eventually have the same problem he had with his father (ie the Dunyain would eventually side with the Consult). But I can't imagine Akka will find any evidence of this. Maybe some scorch marks on the stone.

Perhaps it turns the men of the GO into a mindless weapons race that Kellhus can control. I find it hard to believe that Kellhus didn't test it out beforehand. He's had 20 years to prepare for this.

The White-Luck Warrior / Re: Mimara
« on: February 26, 2016, 06:41:17 pm »
What is the speculation on Mimara actually learning to use the Gnosis? I was originally thinking that it was ridiculous that Akka was even teaching it to her. A grown person's chances of mastering the language necessary to use the Gnosis is zero (excluding Dunyain intellect of course). But. Now Mimara is on qirri, which seems to increase mental capacity. Will it be enough for her to master the language? Hmmm. Just occurred to me that even if she could, she wouldn't be able to touch Seswatha's heart. Thoughts?

The books says he kills the aspect emperor not kellhus, which might be splitting hairs. Also the aspect emperor has to block a sword blow with his own sword, when the skin spy leaped at him in TJE he immobilized it with sorcery.

Also Maithanet was killed while being identified as using cheap dye which might indicate something, or it might be he can't get good dye as the Fanim have been attacking while Esmi has been hiding out in a tent.

Personally i believe he was saying you must tell my brother..S. as he died. Why bring them up their existence previously? How could esmi tell Kellhus anything anyway? So why would it just be brother?

Cheap dye, cryptic message, reveal of having had brothers, also pauses noted in text when he is replying around the subject. I don't know anything about literary analysis but i have alarm bells ringing :D

I think that's splitting hairs. The WLW wouldn't think of Kellhus in terms of his name, he would think of him as the AE. Psatma never thinks of the AE as "Kellhus" for example. My opinion.

I didn't catch the cheap dye. That might mean something. It was my assumption that Maithanet is telling Esmi to warn Kellhus about Kelmomas.

Thanks HH! It's good to be back.
