Fantasy nerds love their magical items and weaponry but Bakker waited quite late to start introducing a lot of this stuff but better late than never.

I'm still not sure how Sujara Nins armor worked?

I do wonder why Emilidis was in Golgotterath (and died there apparently) if Skuthula spoke true. He also called him "Cunny"........that would make me wonder if Emilidis was a woman but he couldn't be because of the Womb Plague right?

33
Hehe thanks.

It will be quite funny if something like that comes to pass.

If Aurang is dead, Bakker really should have given us at least an awesome 1 full page sorcerous battle. Instead he gets one-shotted and pwned by Kellhus.

I get that Kellhus is fucking powerful. But Aurang has been around for ages and fought countless battles - he should put up more fight than Meppa.

Which I guess is par for the course with Bakker. He is a master of big picture battlefield description but has very few good individual duel scenes that I can recall.

35
That might actually happen.  :P

______________________________

Drusas Achamian stands on the battleplain,  surveying leagues of the churning horizon. The last of mankind's hosts lie utterly scattered and defeated. Despite the valor and might of the legions he had assembled, despite his every effort to be this ages Seswatha, it had still come to this. He had tossed the number sticks and lost. There were no words to describe the horror.

Cyclopean piles of the dead, defiled, burned, hewn to ruins... lay before him., along with all the panoply and wrack of bitter, final war. The last remainders of the fabled Ketyai and Norisirai might, lost. The famed sword-dancers of Zeum, gone. The remaining sorcerous might of Earwa, even mighty Likaro, dead or salted to the pith. The final remnants of the Cunoroi, obliterated and sent screaming to the Hells, after all the obscene ages. The Scylvendi tribes of Moenghus, slain. Even the barbarous and savage hordes of distant Eanna, all had fallen. Death had come swirling down, and slaying with it all hope.

And yet the foe remained.

Sranc without number, beauteous Ghoul faces wrenched in horrific hatred and lust. After everything they had endured it still had come to this. Esmenet, standing by his side, screams to see the mad numbers still remaining after the titanic battle, and clutches the old Wizard's arm in desperation. Mimara is on her knees, retching in despair. How much horror could the soul withstand? How much sin had they endured? How much degradation ? The running battles over the past five years, the butchery, everything that had come before- all of it seemed for naught.

And they could feel it in their hearts...the dread presence to the North.... and getting closer. Even now Akka could the faint outlines of the dread whirlwind forming, swirling.

Agony clutched his heart. They had searched and searched, and the Heron Spear remained lost to the fickle whims of time and the Whore Anagke. There was no chance of victory. Inrau...Proyas...Kellhus...Forgive me.... thought Akka.

The voice hit man and wife and daughter as a hammer.

WHAT AM I?

TELL ME

WHAT DO YOU SEE

The dread whirlwind approaches. The hordes part as before the prow of a ship.

The gibbering thousands of Sranc nearest to the dread carapace fall to their faces, while those beyond howled in ecstasy and masturbated in savage fury.

Akka clutches Esmi's hand and Mimara's in the other. There was no time, nowhere to run. At least he would die with the only women he had ever loved beside him.

The hoary black sarcophagus draws near them. Akka snorts a huge line of Qirri off his Nimil vambrace, closes his eyes, and waits for the end.

MOM?

the dread voice thundered through a thousand thousand Sranc throats

MOMEEEEEEEEE!

Akka turns to find Esmenet on her knees before the Carapace. "Kel? Kel!" she croaks. The whirlwind dies down, and the Carapace floats before them in  silence. Akka watches in horror as Esmenet, weeping, embraces the marmoreal black carapace in her arms... "You...you...were...you are the only one! " she shrieks.

Somewhere Akka hears the sound of a child's muffled cries...

I AM....i am... YOUR LITTLE BOY?

Mimara's judging eye finally opens.

Paradox.

And so did the world and the Outside shatter into a blinding white light.

Yeah he did say that. But Bakker also lies and makes things up as he goes as well  :P

-I think from RSB's comments we can infer that Shae is not dead. So either he completely took over the Dunyain or he is riding shotgun with them...

-Aurax could have been acting the whole time. I still think it was him at the end of the TWP. Also I still think Aurang is alive. Why make a specific point that Malowebi couldn't see what happened to him? Kell cut his wings off and tossed him down. That doesn't mean he is dead.

-One other thing that I don't think has been mentioned vis a vis the Consult's competency : the actual defensive battle plan for Golgotterath was very well done. In fact, unless Kellhus was going to pull a major coup in the golden room, the Ordeal was in huge trouble with the arrival of the Horde 2.0 AND the fact that the Consult had let their famed walls become destroyed. They were essentially trapped in a bottleneck with mostly destroyed fortifications, no food, and a huge horde of Sranc trying to get in, all while the gate into the Ark was barred and there were other baddies still in play within Golgotterath.

So in that much at least, the Consult was very competent.

The Unholy Consult / Re: [TUC Spoiler] Heron Spear?
« on: August 01, 2017, 04:46:56 pm »
It's the Sun Lance.

What happened to the Heron spear is a mystery. However, if the No-God 2.0 doesn't have chorae on the carapace I don't think the "good" guys would need it anymore to destroy it, no?

39
-But Shae is not an idiot in fact he has been shown to be very clever in the False Sun, and presumably after thousands of years of mental activity he would be even smarter. He also should know much more about sorcery and soul trapping/possession than fresh out 'da hall Dunyain would, after what, only three years from Ishaul? The Dunyain are masters at certain things but the things they are ignorant of- they are helpless. So to me it does fit in the worldbuilding that he could take 5 down because of their ignorance of sorcery.

Since they are all carved up it seems to me that someone was picking them apart trying to figure out what made them kick? Or were the mutilations done by fellow Dunyain before the Consult captured them, or after by the consult?

Anyway, even Kellhus had to be taught Gnostic sorcery. He wasn't so brilliant that he could just watch Akka and pick it up, because of the inutterals.

So that means someone had to have taught the Dunyain Mutilated sorcery. So either Aurang and Mek were subsumed and were the teachers... or Shae is doing the casting.

Author Q&A / Re: Unholy Consultation - *SUPER SPOILERIFIC*

Hopefully we are done with the piracy debate. Verily,

"I say unto you my brothers, he that pillages of the works both sacred and profane shall be judged in the Outside...and his soul shall rot- eternally."

Fifth Gospel of Inri Sejenus, attributed

I bought three copies to do my part for the cause. Scott, I do wish however you could stomach just a middling level of promotion. Your website doesn't even announce you have a new book out. Those of us that have eaten of the Sranc cannot get enough and are rabid for the books, but the unwashed hordes of the Orthodox may not even be aware of the new book or why they should read the series in the first place. We are spreading the UnHoly Gospel with fire and sword but it takes time... and ever are men keen to cling to their shitty fantasy novels.

Couple more questions Scott

1. Was Kellhus rocking Malowebi on his hip for an important reason at the end there? Or was it just a nice way of us having a narrative view of the events?

2. Was Kellhus' true intent to let Ajokli free and turn the world into a living hell?

3. Can the God or the aspects of the God die or be killed?

4. Will Eanna or other continents become involved in the next series?

5. Will we find out more about Seswatha in the next series? Is he in Hell in the current time? (Please continue with the dreams as they are some of your best scenes)

6. In regards to Sorweel, I thought you were setting things up with the Amiolas and all that that he had converted to the Kellhus cause. Then he seems to do a 180 back to Yatwer assassin and we know what happens then. What pushed him back the other way so quickly? I felt kind of confused by that transition. I was hoping he and Serwa would be the power couple in the next series. Alas.

7. What happened to the little kid at the end of Thousand Fold Thought?

8. Why was Emilidis trying to get into Golgotterath when the Dragon got him?

9. Was Aurang using Aporetic wards when Kellhus took him down?

Thanks!

I think his cryptic response to my question makes me think that Shae took over the Dunyain and he is playing Kellhus. He needs bodies shorn of passions to occupy and the Dunyain fit that mould perfectly.

I HOPE now that I've thought about it, that is the case.

I'm kind of sick of the Dunyain being the ultimate-at-everything, and was kind of dismayed to find out the Consult were a bunch of paper tigers.

42
Normally the bad guys are dumb because that is what is required for the good guys to win. Now I'm starting to think Bakker is deliberately showing us that yes the Consult isn't that bright---but now they got a major upgrade in brain power with Dunyain running the show.

Scott, thank you so much for your works. Truly it is amongst the best epic fantasy has to offer. Congrats on finishing this arc (or ark if you will ).

TUC hit me like a punch to the guts. I figured the No-God was getting resurrected one way or another, but I still wasn't prepared for that brutal ending. I actually felt depressed the whole day after finishing it! So Bravo on that.

1. If the No-God 2.0 doesn't have Chorae attached to the carapace, why didn't Akka just blast the thing into oblivion at that moment where it's revealed to him?

2. Are Ajokli and the Gods still completely unaware of things with the Consult/No-God? Doesn't Ajokli have enough information now to infer that there are things that he cannot see ? I mean he was briefly right there interacting with the DunSult so he has to have some clue about whats going on. Or the God's just not reason that way?

3. It seems kind of foolish that the Consult would bring Dunyain back as prisoners. Was it simple arrogance that made them feel safe in doing so, or are you actually kind of saying that the Consult brain trust isn't that great and has degraded?

4. The Inchoroi are immortal in their physical bodies and were able to do the same for the Nonmen. Why were they not able to do that for Shaeonanra, a human? Why did he have to resort to that complicated and cumbersome method of soul trapping for staying alive?

5. Is/was Kelmomas one of the few?

Thank you!
