Awesome, MrG.  Awesome.  How did they come out up close?  Did they pixelate?  If so, let me know and I'll upload a high-res PDF, hopefully taking care of that (if it's an issue).

They're great!  No pixelation.  They seem perfect as is--thanks again!  Literary terrorism begins!

I'm so impressed right now. I cannot wait to do some literary terrorism tomorrow. I think I might do a spoof "Frodo Lives!" Wiki page tonight.

Great job, MG. Thanks, Som, for empowering us.

hahahaha that's totally awesome, i'm going to print some out as well. I've managed to get a few folk reading just by recommending him on another site i frequent to do with football (soccer) . Maybe half dozen folk said they would pick it up and 4 have finished the lot. One guy was a bit upset as he was waiting on GRRM as well and now has two books he's desperate to read.

But seriously those bookmarks were so awesome i had a big cheesy grin looking at it all.

bwahaha yes, love it. Had to have a good laugh and my gf came over to see what I was laughing at. She laughed as well.

Incredible work. Lets hope the internet begins to point to our site here. "Who are the Dunyain?" still doesn't point directly here (*cough* SR help us *cough*). I need to figure out how to make the printer at work use the cardstock... Or stop being a cheap piece of shit and go to staples.

What did that run you, and how many did you get?

it was $21.55 for 100 sheets, not bad i thought

Post by: Wilshire on July 11, 2014, 12:44:18 pm
Not bad at all. I know the basic price is like .09 per sheet of normal paper, so .21 for fancy card stock doesn't seem unreasonable.

So glorious.

Might have to split this into a thread where "people" (so for right now just MG) post pictures of where their bookmarks have been.

Would be interesting if someone finds one of these and traces it back to this thread and comments!

Lol - I don't think Sovin and SR ever talked but we were purposefully working towards making that happen, Curethan. That reminds me... I should finish my spoof of "Frodo Lives!" and intro post for "Who are the Dunyain?" thread.

For my part, I hit up some titles by Abercrombie, Martin, Lawrence, Tolkien, Erikson, Guy Kay, Rothfuss, Salavator, among others.

And once again for documentation, I'm distributing closest to Bakker-Mecca (other than London itself) and THERE WEREN'T EVEN COPIES OF BAKKER IN THE STORE! What the fuck, readers/publishers?!

Off-topic but on Wikia's homepage a big map of Westeros came up and written on it was "Where was Daenerys Targaryen?" Which reminded me of this thread. (Can't seem to find it anymore.) It's an ad for Wikia's maps project (http://maps.wikia.com/wiki/Maps_Wiki). Here is one (http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Maps/147) from the Game of Thrones wiki. It doesn't seem that complicated so perhaps we should make one for the Second Apocalypse series. Or if we're feeling ambitious we could try something like - I know I'm dreaming - those (http://lotrproject.com/map/#zoom=3&lat=-1323.98945&lon=1366.00858&layers=BTTTTTTTTT) two (http://lotrproject.com/map/beleriand/#zoom=3&lat=-677&lon=1632.53921&layers=BTTTTTTTTT).

eta: Sorry, just realized that this is way off-topic, so feel free to move/delete/ban.

Not a big deal Ashtinahgma, your post might be moved to the other Disseminating Bakker topic at some point.

Anyway, those maps are awesome. It would be great to get something like that for Earwa. The Wikia one might be doable, but the interactive LOTR map would take more computer prowess than I will ever have.

FUCKIN A WILSHIRE!!!  It is beautiful to see.  Wish I had a half-price around here...
I forget about Dan Simmons; bet there's a lot of people who fall into the Simmons/Bakker overlap.

Thanks MG. I liked your posting format, so I copied it.

Didn't end up getting to any book sores on my vacation, but there are at least 3 more up here I can drop some off at. Might have to revisit them a few times.

I was back at Chapters to pick up a book ordered for school (that makes three books and dozens of pdfs to read before September but thankfully yesterday was my last day at work here down south). All of my bookmarks were gone (and I can't imagine that they sold). Made sure that in this second engagement none were peeking out of the books at all.

Gotta be more sneaky. You should have asked about it. "Last time I was here I got a free bookmark in my book, got any more?"

Bakker fans could do this for any in store purchase.  Find the book you want, stick a book mark in it, ask the check out person "Who are the Dunyain?"  makes buzz?

I've double backed to a store that I propped several in and they the books that remain still have the (book)Marks. None of them are visible.

Found a tiny used-books store close to my house. Will continue to seed the "new" books that come through.

Thanks for the encouragement. The goal of course would be to get more people to do this. Have WatD? bookmarks show up everywhere there is a fan to place them.

Is it an option to add a qr code to the Amazon link to tDtCB? Or do we not want to link anywhere? I'm not sure it's breaking some British law if you do that.
Title: Re: Disseminating Bakker - Bookmarks
Post by: Wilshire on October 24, 2014, 07:26:54 pm
"Branding" came up a few times when this was initially being discussed (http://www.second-apocalypse.com/index.php?topic=740.msg16961#msg16961).

QR code was never brought up.  Might be a decent way to advertise and skirt potential legal issues. Though, then it looks more like commercial advertising and might have a great chance to be removed from books if it were seen.

The grand scheme was to have the curious search google and end up here, however a google search doesn't really lead to anywhere useful at this point and presumably we haven't dropped enough bookmarks to see any impact.

Might be a better idea just to point directly to amazon. Not sure though.

Who knows, maybe he'll happen upon one if he hasn't already caught wind of it.

Both the university and college in town run spec fic classes, so I was thinking I'd fill up those books that are on the reading lists once September rolls around

Over the years I've taken both courses (also the sci-fi fiction ones) and I remember back when I was in the fantasy fiction course at the college that my prof was flipping through slides quickly at the end of a class to try and cover the important points before we left and I caught Bakker's name on one of them as I sat idly pretending to be listening.

I approached her after class about it (this was in the period where "we" were waiting to hear the final details and release date for WLW) and as it turns out it was a slide from the previous years course. She had had Bakker come in and do a reading and quest lecture for a period. It was as disappointing to learn it wasn't scheduled for out class as it was exciting to have noticed his name there in the first place.

So I'm kind of hoping those textbook lists might attract a few more to witness an apocalypse

Oh yeah! Got some stellar literary terrorism in today, though I'm saddened to report (again) that Bakker is not stocked anywhere in Canada...

Deposited some more of my dwindling stack of bookmarks in Abercrombie, Abraham, Brooks, Cook, Erikson, Gaiman, Gemmell, Jordan, Lawrence, Martin, Moorcock, Newman, Prachett, Rothfuss, Sanderson, and Tolkien.

Also, while I was wasting my afternoon in book bliss, I overheard a women talking to her friend about getting her husband a new book, as he had caught up on ASOAIF. Unfortunately, as Bakker is not stocked (>:(), I couldn't immediately hand her TDTCB. So I recommended Gardens of the Moon, slipped in a bookmark for her, and sent her happily on her way (as she was about to buy a Wildcards anthology because Martin's name was on it). Hopefully, her hubby enjoys Erikson but ultimately finds his way to us :).

I had forgotten about this, but when my wife was reading Darkness a few months back, she mentioned the book to someone she knows who lives in India.  He snap bought the entire series.  Last I heard though he hadn't actually started it yet though.
