Yea, I've come to the belief that we cannot take the text in and of itself as the whole truth. Bakker is gonna lay way us with revelation after revelation. And we'll go back and see clue after clue. I think that is his main point of these books. To try and out think everyone. Ever are men deceived.

which brings me to--i wonder if skinspies can see each other as skinspies?  or smell?  lol, this is going to be the unintended upshot of eating sranc--the GO will smell like allies and the sranc will stop attacking

Well, isn't it in TTT where their with Cnaüir and they are communicating by screaming? Tilting their head back and opening their face and letting out many reed gasp? Also, I think you hit the nail on the head with smelling. Esme remarks that it felt like Sarcellus was smelling her in their last scene together in his pavilion.

So, this re-read is really bringing out a lot that I haven't previously noticed or thought about. H and I coming to the conclusion that Moe probably conspires with Mek. That Istriya has apparently been a Skin-Spy the entirety of the book. Skeaös only after he was going to be in the way of the Consults plans. Inrau look at the shit storm you've created about what you found in Maithenet's apartments. All in all, it's been very enjoyable and I think our pacing is great.

ETA: As to whether or not Kellhus's mission always was to kill his father, the what comes before of TWP might change the minds of those who think it always was his mission.  ;)

Ok, that makes sense. I was hoping there would be some hidden clue there, guess not, lol.

One, I had no clue where to post this, but this seemed like the best place. Secondly, I don't know if this has been brought up before, but last night while looking at the map in the back of TWP, I noticed something.

It has to deal with all the cities and how they are marked. I was expecting a legend to be included in the map but there isn't, so I'm left to wonder. The cities that are populated are denoted with a square that is colored in. The ones that was destroyed during the apocalypse are denoted with a square and left blank. Now, Ishual, Golgottearath, Dagliash and Attrempus are all marked on the map with a cross. Why? What is it that they all have in common the Bakker would mark them as such?

Well i believe that Simas was a product of Moe. His discovery by Maitha allows them to immediately bring the Mandate onside. I think he is a conditioned skinspy, "re-programmed" by Moe. Or him existing is just a lucky break for Maithanet as it now gives him a pre-text to go collect the Mandate in TTT and sail together to annoint Kellhus.

That's good, I've never thought of Simas as a product of Moe. Adds a whole new layer to the conditioning Moe laid for Kellhus.

I'm with you H, but I've refrained from opening TWP. We agreed to a format when we started this, and if a few of us get ahead and discuss everything ahead of the majority, I believe we'll lose the little interest we have in the reread. I agree with Bolivar, we should let it marinate and others to catch up. Or, slog on through if that doesn't suit your tastes.  ;D

The first to see their true face I believe. Also, I wasn't making the claim that Akka is a tool of Anagke, only if others thought that's what it meant. I agree with you H, I believe Seswatha is pushing him along his path.

After three hundred years, he, Drusas Achamian, had rediscovered the Consult. After two thousand years , he, Drusas Achamian, had witnessed the return of an Anasûrimbor . Anagkë, the Whore of Fate, had chosen him for these burdens! It wasn’t his place to ask why. Nor could such questions relieve him of his burden.

We know Yatwer has tools in this war, and I've heard Kelmommas could be a tool of one of them (I forget the name). So, is this a tell that Akka is a tool of Anagkë? He constantly, throughout the books remarks how he is a Whore of fate.

I'm picking up what you're putting down Locke, and I like it. That makes a lot of sense. As if Moe was sent out to gather intel, because the Dûnyain are not oblivious to the happenings of the world. They serve a purpose. Fits in nicely with Seswatha the manipulator.

She described the jealousy of the Gaunum wives, how they had lied to her about her first child, saying that it had been stillborn when Griasa, an old Shigeki slave woman, had watched them strangle it in the kitchens. “Blue babies,” the old woman had whispered in her ear, her voice cracked by an outrage almost too weary to be spoken. “That’s all you’ll ever bear, child .” This, Serwë explained to Kellhus, became the morbid joke shared by all the members of the household, especially among those concubines or slaves proper fortunate enough to be visited by their masters. We bear them blue babies . . . Blue like the priests of Jukan.

During the sixth month of her pregnancy, Peristus’s wife whispered, “Three months till the funeral, hmm, Serchaa?

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Any word on why Serwe would be the chosen one to being with?
Nope, but no one knows why peasant Mary was chosen by God either.  It's better than being the chosen one because of lame genetic "the farm boy is a secret prince " reasons.

Also she may have the judging eye her children were still births.

Well, all could very well be true besides the still births. Her babies were born alive then choked to death, making them blue babies.

The pollution of non dunyain mothers. Is it at some point mentioned they look alike?

I think they would if it wasn't for Maithenet dying his hair and beard and his tan.

Finished chapters 13 and 14.

She smiled tears of rapturous joy. She could see him as he truly was now, radiant with otherworldly light, haloes like golden discs shining about his hands. She could see him!

This is the first time we have someone see the halos.

Also, we have Serwë's insistence that the baby is Kellhus'.  I'm not sure what to make of that though.

Yea, this is where I get mighty confused as to why Serwe is so important/sacred to the books. I get that her belief in Kelhuss is what made the haloes appear. But, she is delusional, right? Kelhuss even remarks that they haven't even slept together. The metaphysics and all that seem to be above me here. I can't sort it out for nothing.

Morkypep, I wouldn't go so far as considering anything we discuss as canon. I mean, that's usually a authorial decision.
