Ah, H - were you at ZCon this year? If I can swing it next year, I'll bring my gluten free chocolate chip cookies with me; I have Celiac, so can't reciprocate by trying any of yours if they have gluten. I would consider my recipe to be not too sweet, but not sure how low of sweet you prefer. My harsh dietary restriction is a big reason I didn't go, it's very difficult to manage. Avoiding foods with gluten is just the beginning, I have a hyper-sensitivity to cross contamination ( so while the hotel may be safe, the travel there and back may not ). While I'm humble about my intellect, I sport pride with my cookies  ;D

Steak pie - and all kinds of meat pies - have long been things.

On topic, my favorite pie is and always (probably) will be lemon meringue.

I should've guessed at that - Lemon Meringue would be one of the more "mad" pies

Thank you, H - for taking this seriously. I don't believe Scrancy loves Scranc pie, that would be cannibalism and there's no evidence of that even when the Scranc were starving. Human pie, perhaps ...

Grimdark seems to have some negative connotations for Bakker.

As it should, seems to be a clumsy construct of having to categorize everything. I guess 2 words is too much ( i.e. Fantasy Horror ), so someone had to make a word up, thinking it was cool but quite the opposite, Grimdark is nerdy uncool ( the word, that is - not the works "falling into" this made up genre ).

I took "Grimdark" as a story where the protagonist/hero is evil.

So it appears, Beyond Redemption by Michael R Fletcher, beat it out. Not that I give a shit that anything did, but anyone know this book? Any good?

I've never read Mark Lawrence's books, but I might give them a try based on this result. Oooh, he's suckered me in ;)

Dude, don't. Waste of your time - his story is "ok", but not a good writer.

Steak Pie.

Steak pie? That a real thing or your way of saying you don't like pie?

A real thing.

Well, that looks tasty! You left out the ale part, throws more weight behind your selection.  8)

It counts ... "pie" in the abstract, what is "pie" to you - so your contribution/insight is valid. You from or currently live in Spain? My father's parents were born in Spain in an area/people called the Gallegos. He didn't teach his sons Spanish which is unfortunate, I could've been bi-lingual. He spoke beautiful ( or so I'm told ) Castilian Spanish.

Quote
This world, he thought, must not end.
He turned from the view to the room’s single table and dropped onto the stool, or what passed for one—it looked like something salvaged from a wrecked ship. He wet his quill and unrolling a small scroll across scattered sheets of parchment, wrote:
Fords of Tywanrae. Same.
Burning of the Library of Sauglish. Different. See my face and
not S in mirror.

- The Darkness That Comes Before chapter 1.

Forgive the density of my gray matter, but what does this mean/foreshadow? Whose the writer ( Akka? ). The "See my face and not S in mirror" escapes me, don't know what is being said here.

The No-God / Re: The Mutilated: A Census
« on: September 05, 2017, 05:41:25 pm »
I think one of the "Mutilated" isn't badly hurt if I remember correctly. Just wondering how much of the damage they suffered effected their psychology ( maybe 1 is still sane - should we call them The Mutilated +1? ). It's understood they have minds like steel traps, but don't underestimate the effects of violent trauma, they're still human. And, as Bakker has pointed out, Kellhus made mistakes - the planet super-human now a common table seasoning. Could be 4 minds are stronger than 1, but it appeared he "out-classed" all 4 aggregately and still lost. While sporting extraordinary intellect, they are imperfect.

I digress ... agreed, POV from Moe leading Sylvendi with the TUC would apportion a nice POV for The Consult, if for no other reason I would like a roll call of The Consult. How many were there before Ishual, how many after and how many now, all with their race, age and skills/sorcery and techne manufacture, soul/soul-less. Its high time for a Consult census.

Ah, maybe - could be done with "art". Don't need them mulling over the grand plan to yield so much, but at least some flashbacks to the Ishual battle ( technically a "war" if we consider the Dunyain hold to be a "country", it was sovereign ). That whole Shrieker v Dunyain labyrinthine thing would've been tasty to read about.
