“A skin-spy with the ability to work sorcery,” the Shriah of the Thousand Temples said, grimacing with exertion. “A skin-spy with a soul.” And the grand old sorcerer realized he had known all along.

Thanks for the material sciborg. I really only read about this stuff on TPB so it's interesting to get another take on it.

My fiance is in medicine and I often help her with literature reviews and the like. Most recently, we looked at studies assessing the benefits of vitamin supplements and it was shocking to see just how fraught with confirmation bias even a seemingly non-controversial topic could be.

A friend of mine who does business analysis pointed out that most scientists are not great statisticians, so their ability to distill the significance of their research is severely handicapped. I feel like the gap between our abstract ideas and the actual data it is supposedly based on is getting wider, creating a culture of certainty that is as unfounded as it is often pretentious.

I wish I had some insights on the inner workings to offer but I just hope you guys make more of them. I also think YouTube would be s great move as it would be easier to curate, easier for us to listen to, and you could showcase some of our community's wonderful artwork, all at the same time.

I don't know, I think the Bardic priest line is perfectly placed for re-reads and how Aurang himself says it in TTT. I do think Inrau's death scene is significant but the Symbolism is ambiguous enough for it to go in any direction, really.

I've been contemplating a re-read for a while now and you're just about pushing me over the edge Mr. G.

I'm reading The Widow's House, recently released book 4 in Daniel Abraham's The Dagger and the Coin quintet.

I've read the first 3, with Deadhouse Gates being my favorite. I know it can be jarring, moving to a new set of characters every few hundred pages but that puts the focus entirely on the writing and that's what I like about the series. No boring build up or middle books where the author has to "move the pieces." Just Epic Fantasy with capitals E and F.

I don't think the character will come back but the significance of what happened in the False Sun might have further implications beyond introducing a mangeacca POV and shedding light on the early days. I assume there was something incredibly important they absolutely needed to warrant the risk of deceiving Titirga. The False Sun itself might tie somehow into the Inchoroi "weapons of light" which were reportedly depleted after the Cuno-Inchoroi wars.

The big ones - what is going to happen at Golgotterath? What's Kellhus' endgame? Is he divine? Who are the Dunyain?

I also want to know if Cnaiur is still alive, what exactly is the inverse fire, what about it would make Titirga so shook?

Right now I'm leaning towards another son of Moenghus, since the fact that he had other (supposedly dead) children appears in the same book.

TDTCB. Stepping into the Three Seas for the first time just had that indescribable feeling whenever you start a special work in SFF. I also love how the climax was a debate. I wouldn't be surprised if it was done before but it just strikes me as one of the most subversive things Bakker has done.

I played it on PS4, the beta was good stuff. Real excited for the final product.

Those parallels are striking and I wouldn't be surprised if Kellhus has engineered events to make Akka more like himself or at least able to see things from his own perspective. I can totally see Kellhus conditioning Akka and Mimara to grasp or carry on TTT, especially if Kellhus does sacrifice himself at the end of TUC as some expect.
