I hope so very much too, Nskoghar... So much Dune to riff off of with Dunyain women.

Just realized that this is probably another PC trope that Bakker was subverting by making the Dûnyain women nothing more than broodmares.

Well... the timeline at most for the Cuno-Inchoroi Wars stretches about 1000 years? There are no few thousand extra to go around unless the Nonmen seal the Glamour and then Aurang and Aurax have actually been able to come and go as they please for a couple thousand years before the Breaking of the Gates, though the Glossary implies no such gap.

Agree, but this is what I was talking about,

Quote from: Cu'jara Cinmoi
So far, the deepest the histories go is to the Fall, which is to say, the arrival of the Inchoroi in the last Age of Nonmen. At the moment, that feels plenty deep, and it precedes the Tusk by quite a few thousand years.

So, is he talking about the actual breaking of the gates here and not the Tusk itself? I'm guessing he wasn't quite sure about the timeline at that point.

I always took the 'their' in question here to mean the 'Ketyai's'. It doesn't make sense for the Tusk to contain the Inchoroi's most hallowed laws and revered stories, if it did, they shouldn't be surprised to find themselves damned.

Quote
Well, the communication could have happened when there were more than just two Inchoroi?

I think you're right, after all, how could the two Inchoroi who were stuck in the Ark until the Shae/Mek broke the glamour have communicated with the Men of Eänna? But this is something that I find a bit confusing, IIRC Bakker said on TSF that the Tusk came a few thousand years after the landing. Given that the landing and Womb Plague both happened in Cujara's lifetime, and that the Inchoroi were Annihilated 500 years after the Womb Plague, the timeline wouldn't make sense unless the Tusk came when there were only two Inchoroi left, no?

They cheated?

If I understand correctly, Aporetic sorcery is only good for undoing the effects of other sorceries. So when used by an Aporetic it's no different from Chorae.

But I'm sure someone who knows better will correct me.  :)

Speaking of Dunyain women. I thought this comment from Bakker was very interesting,

Quote
I'm afraid the mystery of the 'Dunyain feminine' doesn't come to the fore until The Aspect-Emperor...

I've seen speculation that he was referring to Kellhus's children here, but I disagree, I think there is a reveal coming concerning Dunyain women now that Achamian and Mimara are in Ishual.

I don't think the Dunyain themselves know of any secret mission, that kind of knowledge would interfere with their program, which coincidentally selects for the Few. And we know of Dunyain that are not called Anasurimbor. Whoever sent them to Ishual (or the first generation of Dunyain) had them destroy any records or knowledge that would interfere with their breeding program, that includes sorcery and anything about their true mission (supposing that they had one other than attaining the Absolute), I think.

But props for coming up with the Foundation parallel Madness, I can definitely see some inspiration there if in fact it turns out that Seswatha created them.

Gonna do what I can to keep this thread alive, so here's my latest offering...  I'm working on a more sketchy, sort of concept-type art style.  Hope you enjoy.

Amazing. I don't even see a problem with the size; we have reports of people breaking dragon necks with their bare hands IIRC. Which, even at this size sounds like a stretch, any bigger and it becomes a joke.

Seems a bit far fetched. To have conditioned Esmenet so that she ends up Kellhus's wife, he must have conditioned Achamian and the Consult as well.

Something from Threeseas I don't get,

The issue of the Chorae threshold is also broached in TWP. There is, however, a limited grey zone, consisting of arcane keys, ciphers, and so on, which one of the Few can utter without suffering the bruise or Mark of sorcery. It's the Mark that determines whom the Chorae can kill. If one of the Few can recognize you, then so can those accursed Trinkets.

Is this a continuity issue? Sounds like a Cishaurim should not be affected by Chorae.

Isn't it strange that 'Ishuäl' is an Ihrimsu word and not Kuniuric?

News/Announcements / Re: More Subforums

My two cents, keep everything as it is but add the 'General Earwa' section to the top of Earwa. And since this is going to include discussion and spoilers for all published works (including Atrocity Tales), you might wanna get rid of the Atrocity Tale forum since it only has a few threads and a whole forum for two short stories seems too much to be honest.

So,

General
News/Announcements
-- Introduce Yourself
Misc. Chatter
-- Subs as they are.

Earwa
General (Earwa)
Trilogy divisions as they are now
-- Book divisions as they are now

Other titles
-- Book subforums as they are now

Or if you don't care for any of that I support the order that Madness suggested of having 'Other titles' below the Earwa section. Just makes more sense to me to have Bakker's works following each other.

All the members you quoted there that I listed are of the Few. That's still a lot of members of one lineage, from two random couple pairings of Dunyain and worldborn to produce Few children.

Can you point me to where we're told that Kelmomas is one of the Few? Not that I disagree with the point that you're making.

But Moenghus the Elder, Kellhus, Maithanet, Serwa, Kelmomas.
More extraordinary still that half of Kellhus' own children had the ability as well.

I could have missed something, but isn't Serwa the only one of the Few among Kellhus's children (AFAWK)?

General Earwa / Re: Pronunciation

au = separate into 2 syllables, like ah-oo (oo like moon and spoon)

ai = long i sound

You're not making a distinction between 'au' and 'aü'? The first one I think is pronounced 'oh' (as in Aurang = oh-rang), the second is as you've highlighted, although I can't think of any word from the books that applies now.

'ai' is also pronounced the same as air, unless there is a diaeresis on the i. So 'Imperial Sake', 'my-sun-say', and 'ai-no-nigh'.

That's as far as I know. There might be exceptions though.

Some other words that I disagree with the pronunciation of (although I'm not sure why, just sounds better to me)

Kyranean = Kigh-ray-ni-en

Kûniüric = Koo-nigh-yoo-rick (koo with a short sound)

Ikurei = eye-koo-rey

Istriya = Es-trigh-yah

Xerius = Ze-righ-us

Conriya = Con-righ-yah

Xinemus = Zigh-nee-mus

Eärwa = eh-yar-wah

Eänna = eh-yah-nah

The 'û' = 'moon' sounds weird to me in every words except Psûkhe. That's why I pronounce Dûnyain with a short u sound, not a long one, the same with Isûphiryas regardless of what the book says.
