Arrival was great (and based on a story that could be called unadaptable), so I have great hopes for Dune.
Yeah, Arrival is possibly my favorite "alien invasion" movie ever and gave me high hopes for the kind of feelings that a proper Dune movie should hit.
Nothing short of 2001: A Space Odyssey has captured the feeling of:
...what I personally imagine encountering intelligent beings would ACTUALLY feel like. I'm a turbo-nerd so the idea of meeting intelligent, benevolent aliens is easily one of the most acutely "spiritual" experiences I can imagine, yet it would also be terrifying. I thought the movie combined these disparate feelings in a way I've never really seen in a movie and spoke to me a lot.
The minimalistic score was amazing as well. An example of how "minimalism" can elicit tremendous atmosphere and feelings when applied correctly.
