General Earwa / Re: History of Earwa from Wert
« on: April 09, 2018, 11:15:55 pm »
That's amazing, again, Wert.

I have quibbles but this time around they aren't worth interrogating because I am very much among the minority regarding interpretations of TUC's end.

Thanks for your work.

I've been meaning to take a morning and sit down with the forum for almost a month now to catch up on posts. I'd like to say I'll be partaking frequently but no promises on my part.

Also, MSJ, for your efforts: Dreams

And bonus: Trees, Trees, and Trees

Literature / Re: Steven Erikson (The 3.5 million word journey?)

So...

If I were to be having a recorded conversation with Erikson, what would SA Malazan fans like to hear him speak on ;)?

Erikson's marketer isn't "releasing" this until tomorrow on his official author facebook page but I needed to link it on Malazan Empire regardless so that there was a notes thread: Fireside Conversations with Steven Erikson/Notes.

Thought I'd share with the Bakker/Malazan fans here.

MSJ is right, it's garbage to modify on a smartphone. ARC was for A Real Chopper. Smallest acronym wins.

General Q&A / Re: Exact number of "nameless ones"?
« on: March 03, 2018, 02:47:01 pm »
However, I always got the impression that all the concubines that survived childbirth and birthed "nameless ones" (stillborn or not) were killed to keep that information from circulating.

Well, there Kellhus would have to weigh viability against secrecy (which is improbably rare for worldborn women with full-Dunyain - opposite, we don't even know, for instance, that Serwa can bear viable offspring). I imagine he might have tried a couple times with the first few concubines - isn't it the case he turns to surrogates after Esmenet's nameless one?

I was going to respond but then I realized I'm going to close the thread and I don't need to have "a last word" on the content in that case.

If any of you want to talk to me about that privately, do so. There are a couple of conversations in this thread that could be continued in more specific threads so we can try those anew separately as members choose.

That's the interpretation I made the first time I read that chapter and I still think it's the one that makes the most sense (which would mean at least 6 sets of twins? maybe a set of triplets in there too, if two or more were singletons? anyway, definitely more proof that multiples run in the Anasûrimbor line).

It's also possible a number of seven could have also tried multiple times despite the frightening experience of the monstrosities.

Aside, but I think pertinent to the last couple comments, Theli was already likely immensely useful as Hitchhiker's Guide to Earwa. On her death it takes "fairly every advisor in the room" (badly paraphrasing) to answer the Away Exalt-General's questions in Theli's absence.

The whole thing seems dripping with significance beyond now they have a child and race away for their lives.

Kelmomas was a jarring reminder of families and home for the Ordeal at the Last Whelming. I'm sure a newborn could serve as potent motivation for the retreating Ordeal.

Was the "two weeks after TUC" something he said here?

"The next installment picks up several weeks after the disaster at Golgotterath."

Hey, I haven't gotten to re-read TUC, I am in the middle of comprehensive exams for my Ph.D and my brain is fried to hell. Can someone explain how we know for a fact Ajokli is in Kellhus' head? I have been reading through the forums and there's a lot of speculation but I can't seem to find a specific line where it says Ajokli was in Kellhus' head.

Welcome back, NronFisher. Strength on the journey, journey well.

I think what you were asking is how do we know it's Ajokli who takes over Kellhus in the Golden Room, rather than where his soul is after all is said and done, right?

On that answer, as far as I recall, we only have the validity of Malowebi's POV to go on.

Great work, TOT.

As time allows, I'll make these my wiki perusals and see if I can offer anything to sharpen your entries.
