I've completed five promo illustrations, which Overlook will release every Monday until The Great Ordeal is available on July 12.  They just published the first one today.  This is it.

I'm fairly positive that Somnambulist has complete creative control over these images so they'll likely reflect his interpretation of the text ;).

Kellhus, I believe, starts appropriating Kyraneas and Cenian cultural beard-styles in TTT.

For clarity, that means you didn't have any knowledge or information above and beyond what exists in TGO (or, at least, in the ARC).

Lol, okay, okay.  So as far as my inspiration for the image goes... I don't know what else to say but that Scott's words inspired me.  Simple as that, no great reveal or insider knowledge happening.  Just thought it was a great, enigmatic scene that might work well as a teaser for the book.

As for Scott's inspiration regarding writing the scene, I only found out afterward when he kindly divulged it in an email.  Far be it from me to illuminate another's creative inspirations, but let's just say his use of the term 'spill the beans' was quite appropriate.  :P

To be honest the only person i've seen say anything was me, and i said it spoiled my guess at who it was, as i had planned on looking later and working it out. As opposed to spoiling plot etc.

I was just meaning I hadn't had a time to look at the pic and guess who it is (Bakker spoiling the picture). I haven't been spoiled. Locke has read the book so it's all good.

Maybe Locke was being sarcastic to me for saying spoiler, without realising I wasn't meaning a book spoiler more you told me the answer to something i was going to guess.

Every word written by anyone who has read a single word of any excerpt or ARC is a spoiler. I'm glad I read an arc because of not, I'd be on media blackout a long time ago.. The internet is view your own risk :). I hope this forum has been able to avoid spoilers,, but things put out, or endorsed by,, Bakker..... Nothing anyone can do about that.

If someone is posting here what anyone else sees as a spoiler,, flag the post and we will review it.. I can't guarantee it'll be taken down,, but it's the best we can do. :).

Like I said,, literally everything is a spoiler to someone. I assume we are all adults, no one is forcing anyone to view the art, or bakkers blog, or this forum.

Last thing you should do is spend too much time worrying about everyone. Especially since the images, barring external explination, spoil very little. I imagine there is a reason there isn't a notation on the quote about who said it, or where it is, etc etc.

Would I have been irritated at Bakker's reveal? Probably.. But I know that about myself, and would be avoiding any TGO discussion on any level.

Maybe that makes me a cold, hard, unsympathetic person :)

It wasn't until someone made a big deal out of it and told everyone that it's a massive spoiler. At first I thought maybe this is just a cool scene, but now I know that it's a big reveal and a turning point in Sorweel's arc.

So the pictures alone are great so long as Bakker doesn't give away the scene on his blog and the people who have read the arc don't comment on them. No offense to anyone who did.

The image in itself is a little bit of a spoiler of course, as I was able to identify who it was and who surrounds him ( seems obvious even at a glance). On the other hand it is not much of a spoiler because I still don't have any idea what happens, but when someone starts saying that it is actually a massive spoiler and that it is big event in the book etc then of course bells start to go off.

That said I am definitely up for more previews.

Some places are better suited for avoiding spoilers, and some places less so. Choose your internet page viewing with care I guess.

I feel there is a pretty tight clamp on spoilers here. Heck, we even disabled Quorum (the IM system) because people couldn't behave. If anyone has suggestions for how to make this forum better, please drop a post somewhere or PM me. :)

Since it hasn't been stated directly yet: if you have intimate/privialged knownedge about TGO, keep discussion to it in topics explicitly labeled as spoilers, or, if you must, spoiler tag your post and be sure to give a reason why. Thanks.

Everything is a spoiler to someone.  I guess it's up to you to decide what you expose yourself to and what you don't.  At any rate, I hope you enjoy the rest of the images when they're released.

Yeah Jason don't second guess anything. Every picture will inevitably have context clues so these are definitely view at your own risk for anyone on a hardcore blackout. I could do without Scott's confirmations about what they represent but even then, it shouldn't be completely unexpected which locales and characters they represent.

Just wanna reiterate these are having the perfect amount of teasing for the uninitiated like me.

Wow that one looks absolutely amazing.

And I can't guess what this one is, so....

That's a pretty good guess, though I think the thing around the eyes could look like one of the ninja headbands from Naruto. So, maybe some guy from a defunkt sect of the hidden leaf village.

I'm thinking in the context of the Bashrag, and that Bakker has already confirmed that first teaser was Kellhus, this last must be Saubon.

I honestly think they might just be "voting down" the layout of his picture, rather than posting them individually and flat (or however you want to label that spatial relation). Though, having seem all the pictures before they were made posters and in person, I like his layout just great.

Somanmbulist refused commission, so I took them to a local print shop. He can make them purchase-able via deviant art as well, though they are a bir more pricey - I think they go for $40 or $50 direct through that site.
