Has anybody grasped the meaning of this yet? I asked about it in the AMA and got this reply
Quote
Is that what he says?
. There's something I'm not grasping. Any ideas?

[EDIT Madness: Title, still doing [TUC Spoilers] until Tuesday.]

Bakker said something about Shae using a number of soul trapping techniques.

The RAFOs
  1.  Significance of the 4121 deaths
  2.  People of Eanna...he RAFO'ed this like 4 times
  3.  Any mention of the potential survivors of the Ordeal
  4.  The Heron Spear

Confirmed we are gonna see Meppa again.  This pleases me.

He dodged the SHIT out of the statement regarding Shauriatis' fate, while in the same breath destroyed the Mangaecca.

Best quote for me "There's the matter of the last surviving full Dunyain Anasurimbor on the loose--that's what's been commanding my attention most these days."

Also his statement that he is now an exploratory writer.  Makes me a wee bit afraid for the No-God.  The whole exploratory writing thing never really sat well with me in the epic fantasy genre.  It's why I never really enjoyed Song of Ice and Fire.  There's no fun in re-reads when the man is just making up shit as he goes.  Read it once, experience it, then on the shelf it goes, to rot forever more.

All in all, a good solid chunk of shit that confirms(to me, anyway) that some of our crackpot theories are at least swinging in the proper direction, even if they remain crackpot.  I hope he manages to get back on and put some more down, so that I can such it dry(phrasing...boom!).
Keep in mind Frank Herbert made up shit as he went along and it turned out fine, for the most part. The fate of Shauriatis was a pleasant surprise. Keeping my eyes open for the 4121 thing.

Shae has actually resorted to a couple of different ways to mummify his soul. Some of the Mangaecca were able to hold on for quite some time, the way I've seen it.
What did we miss?

Do we know the fate of Shauriatis? The Mangaecca, on the other hand, died out a long time ago.
Ok guys I'm starting to believe now. Still not entirely convinced he's cycling through the mutilated, but I definitely think we haven't seen the last of the Archidemu.

Maybe the skin-spies are regrafted Mangaecca members?

I doubt the Consult had sufficient mastery of the Tekne at the time, or Shae himself would have gone for that solution.

I do feel like the Wracu (sans Wutteat) are possibly synthetic bodies rehousing souls from a time before the Inchoroi had exhausted that tech.

Perhaps the Mutilated can get some Ghost-in-the-Shell machines working in time for the third series. ;)
Yeah that's true.
I do believe the Dûnyain will start making new Tekne artifacts. Idle hands are the Devil's workshop...

Otherwise, who said anything about putting the genie in back in the box? It's about creating a culture that maximizes the number of people who do pay, and dispelling the ridiculous argument that giving away free content actually increases the amount of money ALL artists receive. It may help certain artists in certain circumstances, the same way giving away Toyotas at hockey games helps sell Toyotas. It's proselytizing Yars like you, the ones who think returning to the age patronage is good, 'natural,' and that the vast explosion of professionalized creativity arising out of IP was 'unnatural,' 'oppressive,' bad--YOU are the virus, the one slowly ensuring every piece of content is selling something other than itself, via patronage obligations, or product placement, or the simple terror of doing anything different as a profession.
I'm guilty of plenty of pirating myself, but I do agree with this. Leave patreon for youtube "content producers". Also, what's a Yar?

On topic: Why did Kellhus say to Proyas that the Inchoroi must win? Was he arguing from the perspective of the Consult?
Also, if the 100 are re-written in the shadow of Golgotterath, does that mean that if the World is closed to the Outside, the Gods will cease to exist as they have always not existed?

I like the idea, since I'm also quite fond of Shaeönanra and I was sad to learn he was dead, but ultimately I think that the Dûnyain are themselves, the similarity being a reflection of their shared goals and nature. In a way, they are effectively (a stronger version of) Shaeönanra, while the real Shaeönanra is burning in Hell.

Whale-mother action figures or riot.

To the second question, a simple explanation would be that not all the scars the Mutilated bear were given to them in the Thousand Thousand Halls.

I thought that was just because Golgotterath was such a deep Topos.

The Unholy Consult / Re: [TUC Spoilers] Ranking the books after TUC
« on: July 31, 2017, 06:37:47 pm »
It's hard to rank them since all of them have some good moments and moments that were slightly more dull. I guess it goes something like this
TUC
TWP (I was so enthralled the first time we saw Cishaurim in real battle)
TJE (mostly because of Cil-Aujas)
PoN
TGO
TTT
TWLW

I honestly didn't know there would be a third series before after I already finished TUC and came here to talk about it, and even then I felt it'd be a good place to end. I agree that the whole series within series thing is a bit unnecessary and confusing. You can't really just pick up TJE without having read PoN first anyway.

Yes the Inchoroi have souls. Otherwise they wouldn't see anything in the Inverse Fire.
