If 'te' is "son of", does that mean that 'hil' is "daugher of" maybe? If Serwe's father is Ingaera.  Or maybe Nymbricani and Cepalorae have slight differences.

Excellent!  Thank you. You're Michael Seswatha Jordan on Westeros, right?

Could someone give me Serwe's full name please? It's literally only mentioned once in the the entirety of the series but I want it for the Character page. It's like Serwe te Keyalt, but I know that's not 100% right.

Don't have an e-book to just search this stuff and it isn't on the wikia. Someone help me out plz. Also the Anaxophus question.

Did Anaxophus die during the Indigo Plague?  I could've sworn that was the case and I'm trying to find a citation but I can't find anything.

Alrighty, was working on "Nansur Empire", "Lords of the Holy War", and "Kian and servants of Fane" all yesterday.  About 27 characters included and the original page only had 4: Xerius, Conphas, Saubon and Proyas.  There wasn't a character entry for Maithanet or Athjeari for Sejenus's sake!

What I could really use is maybe some feedback? Have people read over the character tropes and let me know what they think. This is a work in progress.

Nothing that I've seen looks noncanon...  The user CaptainCrawdad has been the only person editing this page for the past two years or so.  Except for myself the past week.

I have not seen anything egregious, but it may be passing me by.

The original layout had only three folders: "Characters introduced in the first trilogy", "Characters introduced in the second trilogy", and "The Consult."

That seemed super vague and just plain ol' not good, so I completely restructured it to what it is now. I added about... 50 characters... and about 9 folders...

I was working on the "Cunoroi" and "Figures of the First Apocalypse" folders yesterday.  Those two are brand new—you can see my labors there.  Just want to know if anyone is more familiar with the jargon of tvtropes than myself, or have any familiarity, I want to flesh out all these character folders.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/SecondApocalypse

Just wanted to announce that this past weekend I completely overhauled the Character tab for the TSA page of this.  Planning on chugging along filling out plenty of blind spots.  If anyone has any panache for tvtropes, please brainstorm for me.  Have plenty of ideas myself.

I want to say that the first thing I did was spend about two hours making sure every "Anasurimbor", "Cnaiur" and "Moenghus" had the correct diacritical marks.

The Great Ordeal / Re: [TGO SPOILERS] Aorsi/Dagliash
« on: August 10, 2016, 07:27:23 pm »
I'll recapitulate my thoughts from the ARC thread that the purpose of the tekne-nuke was actually to destroy the Horde thereby destroying/irradiating the Ordeal's food supply.

Think of the Kianene destroying the Nansur fleet off Trantis so the Holy War had to march without water.  Agongorea will be another trail of skulls.

Trying to kill Kellhus at Dagliash was a hopeful secondary objective.

There are a few narrative ticks like that in TAE, they are enumerated somewhere on the forums.

After Sibawul is flogged for insubordination, the text says that "his was the name that would be heaped in shame in the scripture to follow", or  something to that effect.

It happens three times again in TGO.  Some narration is preceded by "According to the legends..." and again "According to the chroniclers..." when describing some action that the Ordeal is taking.  In the map description at the end, it describes the Apophagia as a moniker given by contemporary historians, or something to that effect.

If Middle-Earth is disenchanted to becoming boring normal Earth, I have long suspected that the same thematic through-line is at play in TSA.  The third series will be 1000 years+ in the future after all the action of these two trilogies. With metaphysically intentional Earwa disenchanted to becoming boring normal Earth-like.  If fantasy fiction is scripture, as Bakker has often said, then the events in these 7 books will be regarded as the Old/New Testament of the times in the third series.

I honestly don't think we'll actually see much of the war of the titular "Second Apocalypse" on page, we'll only learn incidental details after the fact 1000 years later.

It's pretty shameful that none of the errors were amended—really shameful.  I'm rereading again and going to try and note all the missing circumflexes and umlauts, or where they are present and shouldn't be.

Literature / Re: Steven Erikson (The 3.5 million word journey?)

I think I may have made one post in this thread about 15 months ago that I had purchased GOTM.  I just finished Memories of Ice the other day.  Good stuff overall.  I love the military, geo-political stuff.  I really dislike this series when it tonally goes into "rpg mode".  When our band of heroes gear up and then go dungeon crawling for treasure and magical artifacts, engaging in random encounters.  I had that feeling for like 1/3 of Deadhouse Gates. I've been told that House of Chains has a lot of that with Karsa Orlong being the focus of so much of that volume.  Will continue regardless.

That's what Mimara said, Wilshire.  She had seen Nil'giccas with the Judging Eye too for comparison.  I forget which chapter, I think the penultimate Slog chapter in WLW, Mimara sees all of the Skin Eaters.  The Eye knows.

The Darkness That Comes Before / Re: First Appearance of the No God

Yeah, it surprised me too on my first reread many moons ago.  The No-God isn't described until
Minor spoilers for The Warrior Prophet
(click to show/hide)

The No-God is this sorta empty signifier in the first book.  I remember my original mental image of him was this massive metallic Colossus being, idk.  The Consult tekne-engineers need to get on that though!

[EDIT] TDTCB subforum, no open spoilers for future books.

TGO ARC Discussion / Re: The Tall and Ciogli
« on: July 05, 2016, 05:55:48 pm »
Don't recall exact details because I lent my ARC to a friend lol—like so many people here.   You are referring to when Sorweel and Oinaral are talking about knowing for sure if Oirunas is still alive, right?  He says something like, "He still lives because only The Mountain could ever knock him from his feet."  I don't think they say anything about Ciogli being alive still or in Ishterebinth.
