Introduce Yourself / Re: Hi

Welcome to the forum. Prepare yourself, and don't ever again apologize  for your English. Its better than most, probably regularly better than mine and its the only one I speak  ;).

Perhaps - I've been very much debating in past weeks never posting there again.

Imagine if Mimara was blinded and learned to 'see' solely via the Onta and the JE... crazy!
Haha yes! Thats what I was getting at.

Tertiary tangent not about Iyokus... ok I'm moving this to the sorcerery thread.

Could not watch all of 300.  I loved reading about ancient Hellenic culture when I was young and I disagreed with almost every frame that I saw.
I thought it was great. I'll put on the dunce cap though if you wish.

In truth, its a movie and not a documentary, so I can accept it. I try not to let bad physics or impossible science ruin scifi or action or  other movies, so I try not to let bad history ruin those kinds of movies. I just smile, aknowledge that I know better, and move on to enjoy the movie.

Shit, is that optimism is some form... I must try to be more cynical in the future.... madness... From what darkness do these thoughts arise?!

Trisk, that is actually what I was thinking when I posted that

Curethan, what brings you to that conclusion?
I find it hard to justify the Cish's strength within the bounds of anagogic/gnostic/meta-g resoning, since it is supposedly somthing else entirely. I fail to see why emotions make for pure meaning. Emotions are poorly understood, and how often are emotions pure? In my experience emotions tend to be muddled with conflict.
Though, to be fair, extreme emotion can be very pure... But still emotions rarely come in one color at a time.
I guess I could see how extreme emotion may be as pure (as powerful) as a gnostic schoolman, and certainly more powerful than the poor anagogics, but I can't imagine an emotion so pure and untainted by other thoughts/feeling/emotions that it would be the purest of all magic.

I rather doubt the Consult could make head nor tail of the Psukhe with their truncated emotional spectrum.  They are completely ignorant of empathy.

Not so sure. Its been some time since I have read Kellhus encounter with the glamor-consult-esmi thing, but emotion seems to be a primary motivator for them. Or, at least, the the worldly sensations of pleasure and pain. I think they could make a psukari if they had a template of some kind to work off of.

Which, by extention (and to keep with the theme of the thread), may mean that Kellhus could possibly be able to engineer a psukari given his father's failures. Has anyone yet guessed that Meppa was placed by Kellhus? Well I have now. Mark it down.

Becoming a god-like figure of infinite power, to me, doesn't suggest limitations, but rather that 'godishness' is a floor not a ceiling. Its relative as well. Someone on the ground looking up may see a god, but a god looking up may still see a god above him.

Well you continue to ruin it yourself sir. I had no notion of 300 in that sentence when i wrote it.

I think they can too. I just don't think it likely, and certainly not on their own without some kind of prodding (or monetized incentive).

Maybe ALL the blind who perceive the Onta see in the so-called "Third Site"? In which case, your blind beggar could have been a schoolman. The schools probably never explored what blindness does to their ability to "see" the Onta, which makes sense as to why Elazarus freaks out so much when Iyokus returns without eyes.

The words Iyokus, do you remember the words?
Yes
Then you are still whole

(or something like that. The scene when Iyokus returns blinded, I don't have my books currently)

It occurs to me that this is the wrong question with the correct answer. He should have asked if he could still see the onta. We know that sorcery has very little to the words.

From what I remember, during the scene where Akka teaches Kellhus, he explains that the Anagosis and Gnosis use 1 utteral string and 1 inutteral to better fix the meanings.
When Kellhus asks about adding a second inutteral Akka mentions this as the famed "Third Phase". Which would suggest that it's something kind of possible and not just a one-cant thing or a single incident.
Still, it's true that so far we know only one cant which actually uses a second inutteral! But that could very well be only because we see it in the last Kellhus POV.
Maybe in a future POV we'll see other MG Cants where it's specified that they all use 2 inutterals.

Also regarding the use of 2 inutterals in regular cants, from what I understand the second inutteral added by Kellhus helps him to obtain purer meanings. We know that in sorcery purer meanings usually equals stronger Cants so I recon Kellhus can theoretically turn any regular cant into a meta-gnostic one by adding a second inutteral or something close to this.

Just to clarify, Akka actually tells Kellhus that it's impossible to use a a 2nd inutteral. He then recalls, in his mind, a Mandate/Quya fable that there once was a schoolman/quya (can't remember which) who was said to use 2 inutterals. Though it doesn't really make much difference, since we know that Kellhus would have just "read" the truth from his face anyway.

If the Gnosis is some kind of logic based geometric sorcery:
Consider that within a 3 dimensional plane , you can only define a point with 1 coordinate. i.e (x). This is a 1d "object".
I think this is, more or less, what the anagogic schools use. They are limited to defining 1d sorcerery. If they want to "make" something, they can only specify 1 thing at a time. For example, something's length, or somethings height, but not both. This makes their "meaning"(purity) unclear.

With 2 points, you may define 2 points. (x, y). With this, you can now make your meaning much more clear. You can define something's length and width, or its height and length.
This is where the Gnosis is. The Mandati, and others, use the innuteral to clarify what they want more accuratly.

With an additional innuteral (the Meta-Gnosis) you can more fully describe what you want.

As a crude example: An anagogic schoolman, a gnostic schoolman, and a meta-gnostic schoolman want to summon a red cube that is 10meters long per side.
The anagogic schoolman simply says: Summon cube! He gets a transparent cube thats 1 meter long.
The Gnostic schoolman says: Summon cube, but thinks in his mind Red. He gets a red cube thats 20 meters long.
The meta-gnostic schoolman says: Summon cube, thinks Red and 10meters. He gets a red cube that is 10 meters long.

Sorry for the extraordinarily lame example, but its easier for me to think about than simply "and innuteral makes it more pure, and a 2nd makes it more purer ".

I feel like I'm mostly just rambling now so I'll shutup.

I reread it, you're right, no dimensions, my pathetic mind's eye provided what it wanted to see, absent the text.
I would have agreed with you fully before hand. Seems like there should be some dimensions for it somewhere... Is the size of the room or building ever described?
When you read the passage, if you thought of the Tusk as small, do the descriptions make sense?

goes back to the originators of the anasurimbor line, the rape of omindalea led to the birth of sanna jepthera "two heart" iirc, a nonman, human hybrid.
I cannot fathom why some of those entries were not published. Lets hope for an expanded encyclopedia.

Anyway, that made me wonder, was that an isolated incident? Or was it important only because it was with an Anasurimbor, which was presumably something like a royal family at the time?

considering the constant refrain of "soul's eye" and the especially evocative image of the ciphrang yanking the soul out of a cishaurim via the energy streaming from their 'third eye' perhaps blinding your world born eyes allows your soul's eye to see.

When the no god asked, none answered because all were blind (they saw only with their world born eyes) none in the world had their soul's eye open, no one saw anything, and thus he remained unanswered.

Awesome. Wonder what would have happened if someone could "see"? Thats a good idea as long as the Cish started after the First Apocalypse.

Also, I wonder if Mog was looking for the Judging Eye? On that note, how would it look under that gaze?
... And speaking of TJE, what would happen is Mimara was blinded?

Quote
“The Second Apocalypse,” Moënghus said simply.

“Only you knew their secret. Only you could detect their spies.”

“They have to be stopped,” Moënghus replied. “Destroyed.”

Interesting that Moenghus did a massive shift from, "don't judge the Consult with your world-born tainted biases," to agreeing with the perspective he just condemned.  Utterly classic dunyain manipulation process.

Was the dramatic shift in that quoted text? Because I don't see it.

From what I read, Moe went from basically agreeing with what Kellhus said with the slight confusion of "why use those adjectives", to more agreeing an no cometary about adjectives. Doesn't seem that dramatic  ;).
