Title: [TGO SPOILERS] Great Quotes from TGO!
Post by: Madness on July 15, 2016, 03:38:50 pm
I'll have a number by the end of the book but one that really gets me:

Quote from: TGO, p70
And he would wonder whether it were simply some mad nightmare...
Wake up... Sorwa, my sweet...
Life.

Quote from: TGO, p332
"So it ends!" the Lord of the Watch roared over the shouting clamour, and he laughed and wept both.

...

"This!" the Lord of the Watch boomed laughing. "This is our cannibal fate!"

I do not war against men, but against the God. But only men die. The fields must be burned to drive the God from them.

I watch these fields. Who better to burn them?

Radiating concussions, blowing souls in their thousands from the crests and summits, puncturing the very clouds, blasting them outward, dilating the iris of the sky.

My personal favorite is probably "That I would deliver such Water! As to strike thee to ash!" from Meppa's confrontation with Kellhus.

It's maybe not 'epic' or anything, but I actually flinched a little when I read:
Quote
"Cling to me," the Survivor commanded the child. "Simulate love and terror."
Before that, I was still uncertain on the child and how Dunyain it was. This moment made me frightened for Akka and Mimara. The moment where I thought "Oh god, it's happening again."

I can't recall the exact quote off the top of my head, but it was from a Proyas POV. It's after Kellhus tells Proyas Akka is the true prophet. Proyas recalls a memory of climbing trees, particularly of one instance where he falls.

Akka says something like this, "Then take the hand the Gods have placed before you." after telling him to take his hand mere moments before. As if he is an instrument of the Gods he has questioned and doubted over his entire life.

Something about it just made me appreciate Akka even more. It helped drive home what Kellhus told Proyas about Akka.

Hello everyone, long time lurker, rarely poster here:

One of the things that has always impressed me about Bakker is his incredible ability in making depravity seem glorious. I really cant think of any other author that so depicts the barbarity of human fanaticism. Without further ado (my emphasis):

Quote
Within days, it seemed, the entire host had set aside its scruples and fell to their grisly fare with relish, even celebratory enthusiasm. Tongues and hearts became the preferred delicacies among the Nansur kjineta. The Ainoni prized the cheeks. The Tydonni took to boiling the creatures before searing them over flame. To a man they discovered the peculiar mingling of triumph and transgression that comes upon those who battle against what they would eat. For they could not bite without suffering some glimmer of the affinity between Sranc and Men—the sordid spectre of cannibalism— and they could not chew and swallow without some sense of predatory domination. The immeasurable Horde, which had been the object of so much foreboding and terror, became small with hilarity and devious wit. At the latrines they traded jokes about justice and Fate.

reading above was harrowing for sure

"I ..." she began on the urge to vomit.
Let it ... a seditious fragment whispered.
"I-I ..."
Happen.

Favorite quote comes from Cnaüir urs Skiötha.

Quote
You think this a reunion?” Cnaiür urs Skiötha screams down at him . “A meeting of old friends?” Mimara feels more than sees the kick to Achamian’s face. Terror flushes through her. “This is not another favour from your Whore, Fortune! You are not of the People.
