Isn't there a bit in one of the Skin-Spy point of view segments where he remembers being up north in Agongorea and it being snowy and freezing? The context made it sound like that wasn't rare, either.
I imagine Agongorea is a very cold desert.
As to its vegetation, we know it used to be fertile. It's strange that after untold thousands of years it still hasn't recovered from the blasting it received. Places around active volcanoes develop vegetation again fairly quickly after an eruption.
Is it possible that some contaminant was thrown up during impact and poisoned the soil? Heavy metals or even radioactive materials from the Ark?
